This is a very warm and friendly family B & B. in a lovely rural setting. Averill and her husband made us so welcome, lovely accommodation, their breakfast was exceptional. Their son is the super chef of his restaurant - attached, beautiful food- a lovely place to stay for a few nights as it is so handy for overseas tourists.
Nice rural location very near to Castle Espie WWT. Restaurant is excellent.
Friendly staff, nice diner, good breakfast, neat overall appearance
Poor WiFi in the room, as connection could not be made. Very dark parking area.
We had bath sheets - hurrah. Good breakfast
Very good restaurant will top chef Will Brown! Must eat there!
Staff were lovely.
Wi fi was poor
The food was 11 out of 10 fantastic !
nothing really , the rooms are a wee bit dated thats all
The best restaurant at any accommodation house we experienced on our whole six week trip. Excellent position to visit Mount Stewart Gardens.
Nothing negative at all.
The location - very peaceful, the staff who were very friendly and the food was superb, we enjoyed the best meal we have ever had!
The whole experience was excellent. Having stayed in one awful and one mediocre hotel the previous two days, this was an oasis with lovely staff, comfortable rooms and fab food.
The location is very good and the restaurant here exceptional.
When criticising the centralised tea and coffee making facilities (which clearly are not a great idea first thing in the morning) being asked to leave! This at gone 10.00pm on a Saturday night. If you like this sort of thing this is the place for you. If not, and notwithstanding the other reviews, I would steer well clear. In terms of tea and coffee making facilities, having just woken up and got out of bed,do you really want to have to walk the length of the building to get a kettle and dirty mugs (the only type that I could find) and take these back to your room to fill and clean respectively? And then you have to go back to where you had found them to make the beverage of your choice? Having made your drinks you then have to return to your room (down some stairs in all probability) hoping that you do not spill any of it and scald yourself on the way. On discovering, after dinner, that there was still no water in the kettle or, on this occasion, any milk in the fridge my wife went in search of help. On finding the owner in the kitchen, she was told that the water in our room would have been just the same which was not particularly helpful. And, as my wife pointed out, this did not solve the problem of the milk because we did not have our cow with us! When the milk was brought through to the lounge area I feel that my comment that this system was unsatisfactory was fully justified. The owner did not and actually told us (as in shouting) to leave immediately. So out onto the street at 22.30 hrs. on a Saturday night we were. This extraordinary temper tantrum was witnessed by our friends who live nearby. What they made of it I shudder to think. Just to add to the delight of the ambiance of the place, the window fame and sill in our room had not been properly introduced to a duster for some time and my wife kept finding shards of glass on the bathroom floor.
Hotel at a good level, We can not complain, lived up to our expectations. Amazing restaurant, worth a visit
everything was super
bad coverage on mobile signal
The Friendly & Welcoming Nature of Everyone from Terry, Avril & Will to the Reception, Restaurant, (Where the Food and Presentation was 1st Class ) & Bar Staff. A Special Mention for Julie who was most helpful from servicing our Room to making us a welcome cup of tea & loading our Heavy Suitecase in the car when we departed. This was Our first visit to The Old Schoolhouse Inn to Celebrate Our 44th. Wedding Anniversary & were very impressed so much so we Booked another visit for a 4 night stay over the Easter Period this April 2014. Barry & Marie, Newtownabbey N.I.
That our stay was only for 2 Nights.
attentive and diligent staff, lovely food well presented both at dinner and breakfast. Nice comfortable bed and room although bathroom needs up-grade [Bucannon Room, as explained at the time.]]
Location. Not you're fault really, but given the weather and subsequent puddles etc it proved quite difficult to get to. This must be a lovely place in the Summer and we intend to return then. A warm friendly ambience provided a nice experience.
We liked how welcoming staff were and the fact that they remebered that we had been guests previously. We ate in restaurant and food was out of world. Breakfast was gorgeous too!
We brought my mum and she stayed in room opposite ours which was lovely but she found the room cold. It was a cold day so not easy and the staff did go to every effort with extra heaters to try to warm up. Showers in both rooms were quite weak.
Our stay at The Old Schoolhouse was excellent Great food, service and presentation. Staff were welcoming and helpful with menu choices. The bar area is cosy and very comfortable. The accommodation was roomy and quiet with lovely homely touches. The bedroom decor was a little dated although we gather this is due for an update so that should make the stay even better. Breakfast was wonderful too. Lovely choice and freshly cooked to order. Would definitely recommend.
Having to leave!
The blocked drain just by the entrance! I'm sure that this can be quickly rectified.
The restaurant is superb. Absolutely delicious food, beautifully presented, and the service is first class. All the staff were friendly and helpful.
beautiful location, friendly and hospitable staff, excellent breakfast with variety of choice and presented to a high standard
beds were worn out and overdue replacement, mattresses sagged and sank in the middle ... we both had a very restless night as we were uncomfortable and suffered back ache the following day. The bathroom was clean but in need of refurbishment but smelt strongly of mould. There was mould growing in two separate areas of the ceiling in the bedroom and on upper walls. I am asthmatic, my asthma was adversely affected by the mould spores
Everything except the lack of a proper shower.
Very poor shower in bathroom. Spoilt an otherwise comfortable stay.
Superb food. Unusual use of old building. Comfortable and friendly
Guest lounge very well supplied with teas, etc.
excellent service, great food and drink, comfortable room with good wifi and lots of tv channels.
it would be nice if there was a room that took pets (small dog)
badly cleaned room, we found some dead flies actually, blankets looked old and as they were used for a long time, the mattresses were saggy
