staff and owners were superb
breakfast lovely supper a little boring. I was told the regular chef was away
very helpful and friendly staff. Good restaurant for evening meals. Attractive, historic property.
Shower and supply of hot water weren't very good. Very little in the way of soap, shower gel, milk in the room albeit staff responded to any request very quickly. Room was quite cold - towel rail didn't work and shower room very cold
Food....evening meal excellent. Breakfast....freshly cooked and good quality. Real ales in good condition and a wide range of reasonably priced wines on offer. Rooms are luxurious, clean and romantic. All members of staff are exceedingly welcoming, friendly and helpful. The Ox has been lovingly and thoughtfully restored by the owners with obvious attention to finite detail.....an absolute all round gem!
There is nothing to dislike about this fine establishment.
Blend of a historic inn with modern updates. Food also excellent.
Breakfast quality nowhere near that of evening food
Lovely old building Excellent bar Good food Friendly staff
The place, the feel, the vibe, the quirkiness...the staff and breakfast.
3 worst steaks in the northern hemisphere.!
Nice place to relax, very nice and helpful staff. Good Food. Everything perfect!
We were well looked after and made very welcome. Thank you.
The staff were welcoming and warm in every way, they went out of their way to help. The breakfasts were excellent, together with the service The location was quiet, easily found and with great access to major roads and towns
The only thing was that the land lady wasnt very welcoming. We arrived a little early and asked if we could leave our bags. She seemed somewhat irritated and it was hardly commensurate with a first good impression. Thankfully, everyone else, including the Landlord more than made up for it.
The friendliness of everyone, the charm and character of the Inn together with the history. The four poster bed was really comfy and the food was outstanding.
The fact that this feedback might make more people want to go and selfishly, we might not be able to book in again as it will be too busy!!!
Hotel was so comfortable with good friendly staff where nothing was to much trouble. Moat certainly will return.
Lovely building, friendly staff, good food. very nice room.
The location, the Staff and also the pub itself.
The food was very presentable, however, what I had was very bland, I guess just an off day.
Amazing owners and staff, the friendliest hotel we have ever stayed at.
I cannot fault anything!
all the staff were wonderful
fruit sald at breakfast was too sweet
The village, maps of local sites and walking trails, friendly knowledgeable staff, unique history, beer garden, food, nothing to fault
The history of the Ox is fascinating!! The beautiful pre and post Tudor stonework and the exposed beams give this place a lovely atmosphere and ambience, the stone(s) of which the original building was created/built around by the monks are amazing, especially lying on lay lines!! Really cool.... The staff were so friendl, really lovely people, nothing was a hassle. But we must point out the young chef Adam!! He was fantastic!!! Even if you're not staying at the Ix, well worth a visit just for his food!! Been to many many pubs for food over many years, but he is up there with the best if them!! A hidden talent, a star in the making!!! We look forward to tasting his delicious food again very soon!! Great location, beautiful walks, stunning views!! Would definitely reccomend going, young or old....if you love history, GREAT FOOD, lovely people, then book your next break here, it will not disappoint!!
Very good food! All freshly cooked with excellent fish dishes and pies.We liked the taster glasses of local ales. Staff were all friendly and helpful. A very good location for the National Trust properties on Dartmoor. South Zeal is a beautiful Devonshire village.
Wonderfull bed, you really sleep like a king or queen. Wonderfull location.
Would like earlier breakfast times...
Friendly staff, building full of character, pretty village, great base for exploring Dartmoor. Food pretty good.
It's all good.
Good food, great room, nice atmosphere and very friendly. Shame I only stayed 1 night.
Staff couldn't do enough to help. Wonderful laid back atmosphere. Beautiful rooms within unspoilt historic building. Delicious food.
Unfortunately we had a very poor nights sleep due to the very soft beds in an otherwise lovely twin bedded room.
The Oxenham Arms has history, and it can be found in the floors, walls and doors. It has character and South Zeal is an ideal location for visitors to Devon and Dartmoor. The hands-on owners/ management were friendly and helpful.
Wonderful welcome, very friendly staff, very helpful. Lovely bedroom.
Accommodation bit pricey, disappointing main meal in the evening, stir fry more like a casserole and my seafood main course, although very tasty was the consistency of a thick soup, the creme brûlée was runny.
Location, building and history
Over priced accommodation and food. Food is average pub food in what purports to be good quality hotel.
