The hotel is set in Thornbury Castle, which has been refurbished to a very high quality whilst still maintaining the authenticity and feel of a building first constructed in 1511. The food served at both dinner and breakfast was of a very high quality and tasted fantastic! Every member of staff that we met were extremely helpful and knowledgeable and the customer care they provided really made our stay very special.

Thornbury is really well placed as a destination: easy to go over the bridge to Wales, or alternatively easy to get to Bristol. We ate in an Italian on the first night and this was fine, and an Indian on the second night and that was good as well.

One of the most beautiful and historic places you can stay not just in the UK but the world .
I have stayed in summertime when the gardens are blooming and in winter when the castle takes on its own ambience.
The staff are amazing and helpful , and the village of Thornbury is only a few minutes walk away .
Every time I am in the South West this is my go to place .
Could not recommend enough.

If you want to treat yourself and be treated like a king/queen, stay here. The castle and grounds are magical, historical, beautiful, lavish, and extremely classy. The room we stayed in was huge yet charming and seriously classy. The personnel are amazing, just SO nice and friendly, not the least bit stuffy. Can't go wrong with a stay here, loved it!!!!

I was actually in Oldbury on Severn which is lovely English village. It has a community shop which was open in the Sunday and where I bought some lovely local eggs and cards by a local artist. Lots of other local goodies were available. They also offer beverages and cakes.

A lovely old English market town with plenty of character.
A lovely old English market town with plenty of character. Plenty of good pubs crammed into a small area so pub crawl is easy! Lots of standard amenities and some local family run shops with a few of the inevitable chains. Plenty of areas to walk and very dog friendly. A good location as a base to explore further afield.
I loved absolutely EVERYTHING about Thornbury Castle! What I was most impressed with was the attention to detail that was evident in everything- from exterior to interior presentation and decor, to the extremely welcoming and pleasant staff, to the food, the service, etc. Nothing was left unattended to and no detail was too small!! I had the pleasure of speaking with several staff members during my stay and all of them LOVE the castle and its history and are enthusiastic to share it with you. Best overall travel experience I've ever had!
Location was out of the way, which was fine for me, I was travelling on business, so to have a quiet place to stay was just what I needed, I could see that there were local walks directly to the accommodation, unfortunately, I always have work to do, so I missed out on the walks.
The room also had a fridge that was stocked with water, milk, butter etc, and for free use, what more could you ask for.
The Hotel is a little gem f your looking for piece and quiet in an attractive location.
The staff were very friendly! I felt welcome from the moment I walked in. Check-in was quick and easy. The room itself was nicer than the photos. The rooms aren't directly above the pub which is nice. The pub is located in a quiet village but only about 30min by car to both Bristol and Gloucester.
Breakfast is in the room with some goodies in the mini fridge. There is a kettle and toaster in the room.
Overall a lovely stay!
The position was good the staff were polite and helpful arranged a taxi to Thornbury golf club and when no taxi was free to collect us the owner Kevin came and got us himself the service was beyond our expectations would definitely stay again venue has live music and a very friendly atmosphere
Lovely large airy room with a large window seat, there was also a large bathroom with a bath (lots of places just have showers)and nice products. Amazing value and very much preferred to the modern stuffy small rooms that cost twice the price in modern local hotels. Also nice and quiet
The history, the staff, the location, the room, the gin, the bed, the bathroom, the pillows, the breakfast, the grounds, the church bells. This was our last night's accommodation in the UK after a month of travel. So lucky to spend our last night at Thornbury. A perfect 10!!!!!
Exceptionally beautiful hotel with oodles of character and charm. A real old english castle. Bedroom had plenty of space, a four poster bed (Lady Jane Grey room). Large bathroom and wonderful fluffy towels (I am looking to buy some for myself at home). Bed comfortable.
The rooms had everything you needed . Fan. hair dryer .iron ironing board .sewing kit. toiletries .tea coffee hot chocolate.

We were attending a wedding at Thornbury Castle and the location was perfect. Close to everything, shops, restaurants and pubs. The owners and staff were friendly & helpful. Interesting place with lots of history and breakfast was delicious!
The overall stay was absolutely wonderful. The Hotel itself was beautiful with lovely gardens and common rooms. The bedrooms are stunning with modern bathrooms and beautiful furniture. The breakfast was table served and delicious.
Everything was fantastic. I felt like royalty and did not want to leave. We are from Canada and will fly to England again just to stay in this hotel…. Closes to heaven you can get… The restaurant was fantastic and must be visited
Excellent Stay in a Tudor castle. If you want a truly authentic stay in a castle then Thornbury is it. Food was excellent but pricy for dinner. Well worth the price. Staff was excellent. We will come back.
