There was the unfortunate incident in where my friend had came out the shower and due to a lot of the steam/condensation which had filled in the bathroom, his bottle of aftershave slipped right off his hands onto the sink and smashed the edge of the sink. After telling Tim straight away, Tim assured us that it wasn't a problem as the piping wasn't damaged and the sink could still be used but advised us that there may be a charge to pay for the damage, but thanked us for our honesty and reporting it as soon as it happened.
On our last day we were informed that it would be an £80.00 charge for the damage (approx £40 for the replacement sink and a charge for the plumber to come out) - at the time we accepted this and paid the charge but after a lot of consideration and advice, we feel this was a bit unfair as the hotel would perhaps normally be covered for accidental damage under business insurance of some sort - afterall, accidents do happen, don't they? And for a small aftershave bottle to slip off ones hands onto a sink shouldn't smash your average everyday sink.
This charge understandably left a bitter-sweet feeling in our mouths after having such a wonderful stay for the week.
All I can say is - great hotel, but unavoidable accidental damage will cost you!
(I understand how easy it can be for the Management of hotels to respond to guests reviews in order to put a spin on the story of the broken sink etc - but I have put this review as honest and constructively as possible!)
Myself and a friend came down to stay for the week and were given a warm welcome by Tim who kindly helped us in with our cases and welcomed us to our rooms (Room 6 which was fantastic).
Very homely guest house which is very close by to the sea front and harbour area of Torquay. The guest-house is also next to the Torquay train station which was not even a 5 minute walk - you can also get the train over to Paignton from this station, again this doesn't take less than 10 minutes.
The room was extremely tidy and spacious with lovely décor and a immaculate bathroom (en-suite). However, being a 'double room' - it was two single beds pushed together which often we would find ourselves slipping through the gap in the middle via the mattress during the night ( I point this out as constructively as I can as the bed was still comfy!)
