Score from 50 reviews Very good
This peaceful 16th-century hotel is in the Western Lake District and has private, beautiful grounds and views towards the Calder River.
Score from 41 reviews Excellent
Family room was excellent with the childrens room seperate.quiet location and lots to do in surrounding area.
Restaurant menu was quite pricey and we were charged more than price on booking .com until I questioned it as if they were trying it on!
We really liked the location of the hotel in the village and it was very peaceful. The room was large with a good wardrobe with plenty of hangers and the beds were very comfortable. The dog also loved it and there were some brilliant walks into woodland and along the shoreline.
For the quality of the room it would have been nice to have had a separate shower or at least not a shower curtain with shower over bath. A handyman is needed to fix little but annoying items like the metal keyhole cover that came off and the loose toilet roll holder.
The food in the restaurant is excellent. The staff on the reception were very helpful when I had any issues.
After the second morning I put the bath towels in the bath as a signal that I wanted them exchanged. To my dismay when I returned from a day's outing I found the exact same towels had been taken out of the bath and placed back on the towel rail.
Hotel set in a beautiful peaceful picturesque location. Lovely clean modern interior set in an old building.
Room was very hot even in the end of Sept with the radiators off, which made sleeping slightly uncomfortable.
The room was very fresh, clean and comfortable with a beautiful ensuite.....all elegantly refurbished and very pleasing. The proximity to the sea and estuary meant we had a lovely stroll after an excellent breakfast along the beach and round the charming cottages of Ravenglass before we left for Kendal.Relaxing and an individual very pleasant atmosphere.
Rather too hot in our room and didn't realise the bathroom window opened under the luxury blind! Would rather be to hot than cold though!!
Clean & comfortable
The hotel locked the front door so my friend could not get in when he came back from the pub so had to sleep on the floor of another friends in different hotel, although the hotel did apologise and refund his money
near ravenglass railway
poor view from room
Position of hotel. Friendly helpful staff. Excellent food.
Drink prices on high side. Steps to bedroom a bit of a problem for me
The view just outside was great. The food in the evening was first class a bit pricey but very good ! Plenty of space in the family rooms.
Breakfast was a little slow in the morning.
we had a sea (river) view - great base for touring the western lakes
the bedroom window needed replacing - very draughty and noisy on one wild windy nght
One of the cleanest hotels we've ever stayed in, and no charge for the newspapers is a nice touch. Manager very helpful and friendly. Staff pleasant. Evening meal very good value. Bed very comfy and towels luxurious
No newspaper arrived on the first day and breakfast was very slow on the second morning - took twenty minutes before anyone asked if we'd like tea or coffee and then another twenty before our breakfast order was taken - and only then because we asked for some attention. Toast obviously cooked in advance and warmed up - bendy and burnt.
Just thought it was a nice hotel in general, we've stayed in a lot better for less than this hotel cost
They tried to charge me an extra £20 until I produced the booking confirmation that I had printed off and taken with me. They were delinatley trying it on. I had seen on a previous review that this had happened to someone else. Wonder how many times they have away with it.
service in restuarant not very efficient
I thought the hotel was very nice Our room was excellent quality and great value for money The staff were very polite and friendly nothing was a problem I would certainly stay again and would recommend it. It was our first visit to this part of the Lake District.Very beautiful
Sorry I could not fault anything
location, food, breakfast and fantastic bed
lack of net curtains tiles in the bathroom coming off
Watching the sun set into the Irish Sea, we were sorry our itinerary allowed for only the one night in the tiny, lovely, village of Ravenglass. We arrived just as the kitchen was closing, but the staff were marvelous and we ended up with an excellent dinner. The location was perfect for my daughter and I to drive down to Murthwaite Green Trekking Center to ride gypsy cobs on the beach, a highlight of our vacation. And my husband was delighted with all the photos this area afforded.
Having to leave!
Staff made us very welcome and spoilt our dog rotten. Could see the estuary from our window. 2 minutes walk to the station for a steam train ride.Food was amazing and plentiful.
We had room 1 on the ground floor but everytime someone walked through the front door of the hotel it slammed behind them and made the dog bark need a quiet fastener fitted.
Food, room, location
we had a really nice weekend and are pleased to recommend the Pennington no problems at all.
no adverse comments - well done the Pennington, keep up the good work
Fantastic views from bedroom. 30 seconds walk to beach. Very helpful and friendly staff. Dog friendly [dogs can go anywhere but the restaurant ]
Hotel was lovely and the staff were friendly and accommodating. Food was superb and hotel was clean and well decorated.
I thought the food was a bit expensive and the price of a glass of wine was scandalous. There is not really much to do in Ravenglass so be prepared to have to drive a fair bit. All in all though not much to complain about.
All staffhpfyl and friendly
We arrived late around 11pm and were due to set off on our charity ride at 05:30. The night porter went out his way to make sure everything was as easy as possible. Sorting us breakfast out at 5.15am locking our bikes away helping us with the route and seeing us off. A+++++ absolute credit to your hotel.
Room was lovely In a lovely area Near local attractions Great views Great nights sleep. Staff where well mannered and helpful.
Some staff where rushed to the point of not giving time to take a proper food order and having to add to an order after taking. Wifi was not up to the job
The food - the evening meal in the hotel restaurant was outstanding and we found the staff to be very friendly. The village was quiet and the hotel overlooked the estuary - lovely views and you felt like you had gone back in time. We loved the laid back atmosphere but appreciate that it wouldn't be for everyone. Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway was a short stroll away and we also visited Muncaster Castle (within a 5 minute drive although is walkable)
Our room - number 6 overlooked the roof so had no view (minor point) Service was a little slow at breakfast but the food more than made up for it - all was fresh and delicious.
