All the staff were smiling and very helpful. The breakfast was good and the beer was excellent. The location is perfect for shopping and eating out.
The rooms (we moved once) were very basic and need refurbishing. Mix of cheap furniture not in keeping with historic building. The electrics and plumbing fittings all needed replacing. The bar food was expensive. Car parking some distance from inn.
Great location traditional interior cosy and welcoming stayed in the four poster bed room great size would go back again
Bedroom radiators not working room really cold on arrival but oil heaters were provided when asked
Location , atmosphere, breakfast
Lack music in bar at xmas
Atmosphere staff friendly
PRice of drinks and the top room
The bar is charming and quirky. Rooms clean and comfortable if not a little noisy.
On both mornings I came down for breakfast the cleaners served the Breakfasts while also cleaning the Bar floor with disinfectant which didn't provide a pleasant smell whilst eating breakfast. Why they couldn't wait until breakfast had finished is beyond me.
We booked a superior room and paid the top tariff. It was the most expensive room on offer, the Executive King Room which was on the top floor, a real struggle up the final staircase. It was a basic double- bedded room with no bath. We would not have booked it knowing it was just a shower. It had no chair, no heating. We were cold. The coffee making facilities were on a small corner shelf. This is supposed to be the executive room and you do not expect to lie on the bed to watch the television. Very poor. When we arrived, we had booked car parking and they tried to send us over the road. We refused. Then they charged us £10.00 a day parking. We got no sleep for 2 nights with the noise from the street below. This hotel needs quadruple glazing because it is so noisy. There should also be a warning: Don't expect to get any sleep. The food and bar prices were expensive. We will not be going back. Disappointed.
Right in the centre of Chester which was perfect for me as I was on my office night out and needed somewhere central. Great price. I was a little late for breakfast but they still sorted me out.
There was no remote for the very small TV. I mentioned it to the staff but nothing was done about it.
City centre location, excellent room.
Noise from the bar on the Tursday evening Quiz, it went on until 23:30 and for a luxury room was disappointing and not mentioned when booking. Room not made up after first night - staff apologetic but it shouldn't happen especially in Luxury room. Shame as it was a nice room on the whole.
Great staff atmosphere clean hotel
The central heating knocking through the night, the noise from the plant outside
Food was good ,although we believed we could have a Christmas meal on the day we arrived being a Christmas outing , however when ordered from the menu ,was told it was unavailable, had to settle for other menu ,but was good.lovely old fashioned pub, no xmas music played!...sad!good beer made up for it!
Had to pay extra for parking though we arrived early than normal we had to pay more money for parking ...altogether a total of £15,we did not have a full night sleep due to foul mouthed drunken guests early hours of the morning not the hotels fault but should have signs up asking to respect other guests
Cosy, well located, staff friendly & excellent food. Very good value for money. Would definetly stay again.
The friendly welcome
unless you pre book no easy parking
The location was brilliant, breakfast plentiful.
The fact that the room was cold when we arrived, no heating on on a very very cold day. radiator was def faulty good job there was an oil heater. Asked for an extra blanket only 1 on the bed (not many hotels use blankets anymore!!!) No complaint re staff tho.
All we can comment on is that the location of the Pied Bull was excellent, and the staff superb.
Room No.4 was more of a box room, the bed springs squeaked terribly, there were only 2 coat hangers in the wardrobe (had to ask for more), no lighting over the dressing table making life difficult for my wife to beautify, only one chair (in a double room), a bathroom window that did not close properly (not much fun on frosty mornings), only 2 miniature milk cartons per person ( requested more and got them, but only the once), no small packs of biscuits to nibble on when having a cuppa, the net curtains should have been white but were grey, had to dodge the tv wall bracket when exiting the bathroom. The Pied Bull has its own micro-brewery but the beers are an acquired taste which I couldn't acquire. We didn't try the food, we thought it was overpriced for bar snacks so we did all our eating and drinking next door at the Red Lion where the meals were excellent and well priced. There is parking available for up to 3 cars at the Pied Bull at a charge of £10 per night, cheaper in nearby car parks. We don't usually comment on facilities when we stay somewhere but for the amount charged for the room we couldn't help ourselves.
The friendliness of the staff The beer Atmosphere Location
uncomfortable bed no bin in the en suite, even though one was requested, it didn't arrive knob off the wardrobe door discarded soap wrapper left in the shower Room generally a bit shabby and in need of updating
Late Sunday Night(2300 hrs) the toilet in our room started to overflow also water was coming up the Bath plug hole, tried to find staff to speak too was hard work. After about 10mins I found the only person on duty,he said he would have to phone the owner and he would not be happy to be woke up at this time at next, I looked at him and said ,Iam not happy been in a room that has a toilet that's overflowing and stinking.we were moved upstairs to room 12 at 0045hrs leaving most of our belonging in the room.On checking out the following morning I was greeted by a member of staff stating that I had a "BAR TAB" and would have to pay it,I said I had not had a BAR TAB and would not be paying, the owner turned up after I explained I had not had a BAR TAB and the night we had had ,he said to forget the BAR TAB,asked me if I was coming next year and gave me his card and told me to ring him before I booked again.the trouble is we go for Remembrance weekend and have done for the passed four years staying at this hotel , the location is good for us but I will be looking for another Hotel.
Friendly and helpful staff, warm welcome and cosy atmosphere.
The ambience of an old English pub. V.good beer, nice place pleasant staff. Close to centre and food very tasty and well cooked.
location was excellent Staff were great, very helpful and polite. the pub area was lovely and rustic
our towel heater didn't work. the noise outside kept me awake and woke me when i did fall asleep. Only a twin room left, the beds in this room were not very comfortable and were squeaky.
There was a good atmosphere in the Pied Bull. The staff were very helpful and the breakfast was very good.
Our room was above the bar and it was quite noisy until it closed. Loud music could be heard late at night from another establishment which spoiled a good nights sleep.
The staff were very helpful and friendly. Their food was good and the Beer that is brewed on the premises went down too well!!
It was very central and a really quaint, historic place. There were several real ales on sale in the bar too !
position in chester & friendly staff
Location is about all I can say.
The room smelt awful I did complain bit nothing happened as they were full. Breakfast was poor kept having to ask for cutlery and no one cleaned away. Breakfast was just dip fried very greasy. Asked for none filter coffee just Nescafé ....think it was a major problem so went without.
The staff were most helpful and friendly and we enjoyed our evening meals in the bar.
Having to check out by 10am.
