Not the most modern place in the world but, it's bang in the middle of a City. Has every function needed and character!
Atmosphere great Staff very friendly
Location of Room 11. (Awkward to access)
Bad Management, sub-standard bathrooms, poorly furnished bedrooms. They would not accept VISA - had to pay cash up front before we could even view the room !
very dark decor, not enough brigh light.
The staff in the pub couldn't do enough and were pleasant and friendly even though they were very busy. The food was excellent, we had an evening meal and breakfast. Beer is good too!
The hotel facilities were not really up to standard for the price but the location probably had more to do with that as it's very central.
Great location, 3 minutes walk to the bus stop that takes you to Chester Zoo, Designer Village etc. Also not far to walk to other locations. Food is very good and we had lovely breakfasts with good choices, 1 evening meal there and the steak was excellent. Nice to sample home brewed beer. Staff made it, super friendly and helpful.
The room was satisfactory, but don't expect too much. It can be noisy around the area. If you don't like stairs and are taking suitcases, ask for a room on the first floor, the stairs are very steep and uneven and get even worse as you go up to the 2nd floor, but you have to remember this is an old building with lot's of history and quirkyness. Even though I have said this, I would stay there again, just because of the nature and character of this property.
Inner city location, excellent beer, good breakfast and adequate room with pleasant and helpful staff.
Parking the car in a public car park some way away.
not fantastic room very worn and creaky. very noisey with people coming in very late .
Excellent location - staff very friendly and approachable. Good comfortable, clean room at an excellent price inclusive of breakfast.
Such an old, old place! We love places like this and it didn't disappoint. Quirky in places, original glass in the bar with ripples even! Very helpful and friendly staff. Lovely atmosphere.
Breakfasts were great, lovely bacon.
Bedroom had not been hoovered. Very old and in need if refurbishment. Bed broken. Not very clean.
Cleanliness in the room Being TOLD that the night we'd booked was quiz night and 'might be a bit noisy' - it was unbearable and impossible to sleep until customers had left (at 11.30pm) and then similar from early morning with what seemed to be staff voices preparing for breakfast. Matress was a long time overdue for replacement Staff walked in in the morning while one of us was showering and the other still in bed - well before check out time and unannounced
Excellent central location, comfortable room
Excessive late night noise from busy street outside (mainly students) plus extremely loud noise from pub quiz night. Lack of choice at breakfast, general lack of attention to detail.
Very helpful staff, meals were well cooked and good value, the staff were always on hand to see if you needed anything extra. There is a very good choice of real ales. The pub itself is central to everything and parking can be had in a local under cover car park only a few minutes walk away. The pub only has 2 parking spaces.
Very noisy from late night revellers. We started our stay in room 4. There was the constant loud noise of a machine cutting in and out all night (possibly cooler or something from the cellar or brewery) We were moved to room 2 (without problems) This room was still noisy from other clients. Beds etc were clean but not very comfortable. All of the upper floors looked in need of some decoration and a good clean. The bathrooms needed a decent cleaner. The corners on the floors hadn't been cleaned in months, very dirty. Again the paintwork very dirty and in need of some attention. This apart the place did have some sort of charm about it. A refurbishment in the place will no doubt be reflected in future prices.
Love the staff, location and atmosphere /dacour in the pub eatery. Breakfast was fine and served by a sweet helpful young lady.
By 3.35am I had to put ear plugs in (painful for me due to exma) get some sleep. A lock- in or could even have been staff having a noisy drunken night! We had traveled a long way and where exausded but could not sleep.
2 nights in Premier room #9 good but poor sleep from 12 - 3.00 AM from drunks returning to dorms at university. 2 nights in four poster room #3 excellent, quiet, spacious and comfortable. 2 nights stay in the room from hell #14 terrible.
The room from hell #14 should not be booked at all. Shower stall is impossible so don't drop the soap also one straddles the toilet to shave as top of mirror is only five feet from floor. Pendant lights hang from low ceiling so one walks into them all the time, also greeted with five coat hangers for two people on two week stay in UK. I have stayed many times over the years at this wonderful historic building however this room from hell has deterred us from ever staying here again which is sad as staff are fantastic.
cold tap runs red hot , weak springs in bed spent nights disturbed by street noise and trying to stop ourselves rolling into centre of bed, not good for a couple of 11stoners
Staff and food was good
Room was overpriced 150 for the night I stop In Travelodges and premier inns very regular with work and room 11 is nowhere near the quality of them
Premier room was awesome and location is great!
Didn't like having to leave!
location good breakfast
second step on stairs caused a member of our party to fall down before alcohol had been consumed
Good food, pleasant staff
Rooms are tired, need modernising
Location was great being in the Main Street. Staff are friendly and helpful. Everything was clean.
Having to pay cash due to eftpos down for a week. A week is a long time. Smallest TV I ever seen in a room yet. Looks like there is a cash injection problem. It's like going into a bare basics type of room. Pillows need some stuffing.
Loved everything except beds (room 6). Staff amazing, food excellent, situatio superb.
Just the twin beds in room 6. Springs painful and pillows cheap and nasty.
Bed had metal corners which on entering room immediatly whacked leg and bruised it.
We liked the friendliness of the staff. The bar and restaurant areas are excellent and our breakfast was first class ( and plenty of it ). The hotel lives up to what you would expect of a building of such an age, very interesting and quirky. The location of the Pied Bull is perfect . and allows easy access to the town and facilities. The sleep quality in room 10 was good. Apart from the comments mentioned in what we didn't like it was a good experience, Thank you.
We were a group of four ( All well into our 60s & 70S ) and we found the climb upstairs to our top floor rooms very difficult and left us exhausted. Two of us were in room 10 and two in room 14. Room 10 was good. Room 14 was a good size and very quirky ( Sloping floors etc ) but I'm afraid that we found it to be rather noisy. It would seem that some folks stay up to the early ours and their talking and laughter could easily be heard in our room. When they had finally quietened down the early morning traffic took over so our sleep quality was poor , such a pity .
