Our hosts were very polite and friendly, we had dinner at their pub and the food was delicious (breakfast was similarly just a great start to the day) and the location is stunning and peaceful, which is exactly what we wanted from our weekend break.
There's a train line parallel to the hotel but this didn't bother us at all; it was dark when we arrived at 6pm and we didn't even notice it was there until about 8, one other train rolled by after that but it didn't keep us awake or even wake us up the next morning; perhaps this would be an issue for light/early sleepers or people travelling with children. I can't think of anything else I would consider a negative.
Cottage is nice, good breakfast and the pub is friendly. Overall a very nice if very brief stay!
Found the beds very soft so didn't sleep well.
Clean modern facilites and effdctive heating
Stayed in one of the cottages, nice, clean and comfortable.
They actually have a vegetarian menu- impressed- excellent meal
Coffee with breakfast was instant--- not fooled by the cafetiere!
the staff were very chatty and accommodating
There was a little bit of road noise
Everything - especially the friendly owners
The full english breakfast was good quality. Andy and Dee were very welcoming and extremely helpful with local information, taxis etc. The bedroom and bathroom were clean and comfortable. Wifi in the room.
Our room was a little noisy from the road but that is to be expected in an old building. The road isn't busy but when cars go past they are going quite fast so they are quite loud.
a spacious cottage well set out, no cooking facilities but i prefer that, friendly staff and locals in pub, felt at home very quickly.
not a lot, be warned a mode of transport is recommended as it is a picturesque area away from big towns or villages.
Very good size of room. Good meals. Breakfast sets one up for the day. All in all a good stay.
Nothing to do with the Portsmouth Arms - but being so close to the railway station where only three trains a day (Mon to Sat) are allowed to stop. Better train service on Sundays.
Large bedroom which was well decorated. Character property Friendly staff. Nice menu including a separate menu for vegetarians.
There is nothing I did not like.
Traditional homely experience, excellent food and personal touch.
Noisy at night due to trafic
The staff were excellent. Rooms spacious and very clean. The pub ouzed character The food was excellent both in quality and good value. Ample parking. Very easy to find. Would definitely recommend others and if the need arose use it again.
Food Drink 32 sq meters room in your flat good t.v
We recently stayed at the Portsmouth Arms for a 2 night break. It really is a wonderful place to stay, out in the middle of nowhere. The owners Andy and Dee were very friendly and helpful. We felt like locals even after a couple of nights! The food was excellent. I would happily recommend this hotel to anyone and will be staying again at some point in the future.
We had a great stay, easy to find, nice meal in the evening and a massive breakfast the next morning. Rooms very clean and comfy, no complaints :)
Felt like a home away from home. Staff we fantastically friendly and made me feel welcome from the minute I walked in. The room was comfortable and well appointed. I had oodles of work to do, and the WiFi was great allowing me to get everything done. The food was excellent value and was lovely. Even chatted to a couple of the locals while I was there in the bar who also made me feel welcome. I'd definitely stay there again if I'm in the area.
Friendly inn staff, and friendly regulars in the pub. Motorbike friendly. Historic coaching inn with modernised room: power shower and decor. Original dining room suitable for a medieval banquet (but I just had breakfast). Good quality / good value pub food. Lovely Otter beer.
The cottage was very comfortable and the food in the pub was excellent. The location was good as we were cycling the Tarka Trail.
friendly landlady.comfortable room, good bar good area for sightseeing
traffic passing by, could not open window
Enjoyable stay and will definatley stay there again
The room was ready when we arrived which was earlier than normal as we had to change for a wedding near by. It was clean and comfy and welcoming.
We misunderstood that the payment had not already been taken when we booked this needs to be made much clearer when booking and taking card details the Landlord said this has happened many times before.
