The staff were very helpful. The facilities were excellent and the food selection was out of this world! I had a Kingsize suite with a massive room, 4-poster bed and a massive bathroom with jaccuzzi. I used the jaccuzzi and ir was absolutely brilliant at a very good price! I would definitely stay at this hotel again and would recommend it!
Staff - were slow and no one was available to answer the door bell at midnight. Rooms - small and dated, very poor and noisey central heating, bathrooms cramped, sink taps had very poor water flow as too the shower. Very noisey adjacent rooms. When we mentioned same upon our departure it was as if nothing was said, not interested.
room 22 fab such a shock four poster bed massive room bathroom as big as our lounge at home breakfast brilliant would definatley go again friendly staff.
loved everything perfect.
Variety and quality of dinner selection Very good value food Food freshly cooked Venue
Meal in the restaurant is excellent we have stayed here about 4 times and the meal is great .
Very welcoming, helpful staff Rooms very comfortable and food is excellent
Poor bathroom facilities, shower dreadful with no power to water flow; "heated" towel rail wasn't working properly and only heated the very bottom rung with the remaining rungs cold. Furniture in room very old and looked as if purchased from second-hand shop. Breakfast was average with what appeared to be tinned, boiled mushrooms being offered with the "full English".
I wasn't allowed to eat with the rest of the diners as I did not have a dinner shirt so my partner and I ate in our room. There was a hole in the bath which meant we could not use it. The room itself was undersized for the amount I paid. Overpriced and underwhelming!!
The range of food on offer at the evening meal was staggering. Our party of 12 all had different meals and all were very very nice. The hotel is within the boundaries of a roman fort and with all free access to various areas. Our room although over the main entrance was very quiet warm and reasonably sized. A full minibar was available(but not used).
Having to leave !! The high prices of the items in the minibar..A bit over priced £6 for a mini vodka etc. Perhaps a bit more attention to detail on wardrobe tops and underneath for dust.
Choice of menu, excellent quality meat and fish, I always fall for the huge prawns (cervettes) and the venison. Fantastic breakfast, friendly staff, always a pleasure to stay there. The blue room is my favourite, it's always a disappointment when it's not available!
The constant wailing of Julios Eglasios playing in the background even at breakfast I always complain but the owner (Manuel) must love him! The bar is not well staffed, the bar staff are full of self importance and the waiters do not appear to get on with each other. Other than the waitress at breakfast.
Staff Food Service
Tiolet in bar a bit smelly
One of the best hotel restaurants.
Wifi connection was poor from my room.
Choice at breakfast was ample/ filling! Cleanliness of room. Relaxed atmosphere/ comfortable surroundings. Lots of parking space. Good value for money.
Too much fish/ not enough choice on the menu for a vegetarian friend! A little too noisy on a Friday night!
we had a warm welcome, the staff were friendly and helpful, lovely hotel and a good choice of menu, central to all roman history in the area
we had a lovely room with a four poster bed but it was near the restaurant and tended to get noisy later on in the evening, however on the whole it was excellent
After a long journey I received such a lovely, warm welcome from Jill and Benito. Room was spotless and very spacious.
Good food Nice Staff Good location for Newport and Cardiff
one chair in the restaurant was broken and should not have been there
Restaurant exceptional value Quiet comfortable room Easy parking Easy location from M4 Attentive staff
Dark corridors and fumbling for light switches to get in and out of bedroom
Restaurant, location, bar, staff extremely happy and helpful
Bed could have been more comfortable
Receptionist very friendly and very helpful sorting out a problem with the bill.
The personal touch of owner/manager coming to check if all was fine in the restaurant. Fabulous selection of delicious, freshly cooked food with Spanish influence. Attentive staff who could not do enough for us.Delightful old building , clean and modern, but retaining all its charm and antiquity.
Portuguese barman could have been a little less noisy in clearing up and a little more communicative, but we're all different I suppose!
the poached eggs I had on Saturday morning were done beautifully ,and the whole buffet was laid out well and looked inviting with fresh strawberrys and fruit.
the breakfast on Sunday morning was not warm scrambled egg overdone and tomato hardy grilled and hard the toast Saturday and Sunday tasted like cheap thin bread from Asda
We were lucky enough to stay in the Blue room with the four poster bed, fabulous bathroom and a great view over a well kept garden. The room was amazing as was the restaurant's menu. The staff running the service were on the ball and gave everyone their full time. The food was fab and we recommend the following: Monk fish, Steak, Scallops (not all in one night :)
This is a very we'll run business, everything is done professionally. The food choice, price and quality is spot on.
Lack of quiet space for residents to relax or read papers etc. the only available seating is in busy reception which is too dark and then we were engulfed by a christening and screaming baby!
great food, service
