We liked the quirky style of the Pump House, much nicer than any of the chain hotels we've stopped in recently. Big comfy bed, spacious well laid out room(s). We tried out the jacuzzi shower and it was great, if a little confusing lol. Dinner in the restaurant the previous evening was excellent. Overall, we thought it was a lovely hotel and will definitely try and stay there again on our next cricket trip. To be honest, we'd forgotten that it was going to be continental breakfast and were disappointed at first, however the croissants & chocolatines were fine and there was cereal and orange juice as well. After being faced with dubious buffet breakfasts at other hotels on our trip, it was quite welcome to have something simple.

The Pump House was a much needed retreat for me after very busy and demanding days .It was luxurious without ostentation, warm and extremely pleasant . The bed was very comfortable with lovely crisp white linen and the bowl of fresh fruit in the room was a really nice touch. The bathroom was new and quite state of the art and there was a constant supply of very hot water . The setting is idyllic , being by the river Wear and surrounded by Houghall woods. Peace and quiet and only two miles from Durham city centre .

Clean rooms, quiet location but very close to Durham city centre. The manager was friendly on our arrival. The breakfast was incredibly disappointing. As this was a restaurant as well I did not imagine that a small buffet breakfast including refrigerated croissants in the room would be the only offering, along with a packet of cereal. Hotel breakfasts are usually something to look forward to and this was not. There was no door to the bathroom which I personally disliked a great deal. The information on the web said this place was 10 minutes from High Force the highest waterfall in Britain,in reality it was one hour and twenty minutes away, so location really misleading.

A comfortable choice for our visit to Durham - quieter than staying in the City centre. A generous room and bathroom. We didn't eat in the restaurant so I can't comment on that. Only 2 criticisms - we could hear everything in the adjoining room - breakfast was provided in our room- ok apart from the childrens cereal selection! Where was the muesli, branflakes etc?
