Excellent,
Score from 37 reviews
“ The hotel was conveniently located just outside Windamere and was on a quite road. Our room was large and well fitted out, with an extremely comfortable bed. ”
Kathryn,
New Lambton
This 17th-century Elizabethan inn has a peaceful location in the Troutbeck Valley, with weaving footpaths that link the nearby ancient hamlets. It offers à la carte cuisine, and is 1.5 miles from the former home of Beatrix Potter. Rooms at The Queen's Head Hotel have traditional wooden furnishings, and many feature four-poster beds. Each comes with a multi-channel TV and facilities for making tea and coffee. There is free Wi-Fi in some of the rooms, and space for free private parking on site. Each morning, a full cooked breakfast is available, and in the bar a variety of drinks can be enjoyed. Windermere is 3 miles from The Queen’s Head, and Ambleside is just over 10 minutes away by car. Clean room with very nice views . Poor value for £150 per night.. When booking the Internet site suggested 1room left! So I booked, then on looking at the site the next day found the same room "book now only one room left"!! Price dropped from £150 to £99.99. The pictures look like medieval hotel with something extra. Sorry but nothing extra & modern ....

The manager was fantastic and couldn't do enough for us. The room was lovely and the food was very good. The scenery was breathtaking and overall we were made to feel really welcome and were very happy with our stay. We made an off the cuff comment in the bar in the evening about being down for breakfast. We decided to have a lie in instead and came down when breakfast was over. On settling our bill we'd been charged £19.90 for two breakfasts! We were not told that we had officially booked, and it certainly was not made clear that we would be charged whether we came down or not, if we'd known this obviously we'd have come down to eat!

The Queens Head was a beautiful pub in a fantastic setting. Our evening meal there was delicious and our room was lovely and very quiet at night. There was nothing we didn't like.

Peace and quiet (no public TV!) books and games. Well presented and generous breakfast. Warm and comfortable. Log fire. Old world environment. Friendly and accommodating staff. We came for a funeral, but thoroughly enjoyed our stay. A draught coming in through the front door in the front bar at supper!

Ideal location for getting around the Lake District with great traditional surroundings, good selection of traditional beers, gourmet pub restaurant food and a really comfortable bed to end the day in....with no driving required in the evening......! Nothing

I particularly liked the charm of the bar area with its open fire and the food was well presented The staff were pleasent and helpful in the bar area. I didn't enjoy having to ask for the heating to be put on to provide us with hot water so we could take a bath at 1830 in the evening, i'm assuming this must have been an oversight but still presented us with no hot water and a cold room

Lovely pub with good beers and great food. Real log fire, dog tolerant rather than dog friendly (on the slate floors). Nicely decorated bedrooms. I'd definitely stay again. Very cold room (although a fan heater was kindly provided) and to be fair it was chilly outside. £20 per night extra for a small dog (she didn't even get breakfast for that!) and she shed no more hair than I did. Maybe you could get a refund if your dog isn't the messy type and isn't allowed on furniture.

Lovely hotel in beautiful surroundings, well located with lots of things to see and do within easy reach. As it is a 17th century coaching inn the hotel has lots of quirky features and a real cosy feel. We were offered an upgrade to our rooms on arrival and were not disappointed in the quality and comfort on offer. The food was fantastic with a great choice of dishes. Breakfast was excellent and set us up for the day nicely. The staff were friendly and attentive. We will definitely be staying at the Queen's Head again in the future.

the pub itself is lovely and the location couldnt be more scenic,The breakfast also was amazing. For £150.00 a night I would have expected luxury and something extra special, I was very disappointed with the room in both size and found it was rather dated and was very overpriced.++
