Staff went out of their way to be helpful (let us order room-service even though they don't normally do it and gave us a champagne bucket with ice when requested too). Loved the decor throughout the hotel. The food we ordered to the room was absolutely delicious.
Fridge broken. TV mount on wall was dodgy so it was hard to stop TV falling at an angle. Reported these things on day 1 and was told someone would take a look, but never heard anything else about it. A wooden slat fell out the bottom of the bed twice during the 3 nights, waking us up. Bed dips in the middle. One bathrobe and one chair for two of us seemed weird to us.
the bath robes, the surrounding countryside
some lights not working. blind pull missing no hairdryer. bed uncomfortable, old and creaky. mirror not suitable for doing hair etc. main reception rooms tired looking and not too clean. Valentine meal, breakfast, needs a lot more thought and effort put into it
Staff, location, comfortable bed. Excellent meals in the dining room.
Attention to detail in the rooms. I had a double room and then a second floor suite. Neither had any waste receptacles other than in a bathroom. In the suite, the coat cupboard had one tiny hook and no rail for coat hangers. With the modern plumbing fixtures, it would be useful to have a note in the rooms showing how they operated. This is a common concern with hotels.
Rooms and facilities are very modern. Staff are very friendly and accommodating.
Staff couldn't loan me with a phone charger.
The staff ... The location..
Been to hotel before went back for the fab food but was told after booking a table and settling down for the night in an empty dining room that there was only a set menu on and a la carte wasn't ! Left to go elsewhere not happy at all !!!
One member of staff was great, but she was leaving the day we booked out. The design and fixtures - but these are now fading and not maintained.
We booked a king size but got a double. The TV was broken so we had to move rooms, the second room was effectively a down grade but on the second night we moved back to the first room as the traffic noise started about 6am. One member of staff gave us the wrong times for breakfast and check out and there is no information at all in rooms. Some of the fixtures needed maintenance - the shower nozzle in the bath did not work, the bathroom door would not close, and the water is boiling with no warning which is lethal in the shower. Breakfast on day 1 was a combination of burnt or undercooked items. This is a real shame as it used to be a really great hotel, well worth the money just to be in the surroundings of the interior. Now shabby and badly maintained. Stayed here a lot under previous management. Wont stay again.
The hair dryer did not work.
Food and restaurant was excellent. Great Chef.
Could not open windows in the top rooms.
The room was great. and the staff fantastic. special mention to the manager Grahame, nice genuine guy.
bigger room this year
spa bath did not work
Room quality Friendly staff service bar food
Quality of breakfast has deteriorated from previous. Wine selection is expensive compared to the quality.
The staff were, generally friendly and helpful. The food was 'mostly' okay. There was off street parking. We stayed for 2 nights our family for one and our grandson was upgraded to a deluxe double - probably just as well as he is over 2 metres tall!
The noise both from the road and the nightclub and cocktail bar. The shabbiness of a lot of the building - needed repainting in most areas. The long wait at the front desk for the duty manager to appear. The cracked tiles in our bathroom and the fiddly shower control. Whilst the meals were served quite promptly our grandson had to wait for his as they'd cooked the wrong pasta... Long wait. The vegetables served with my main course on the Saturday were not as described on the menu and did not go with the meal. The menu was the same both nights. Wine list was extremely poor two reds, two whites and, I think, two pinks plus fizz. Staff all seemed to be from the local Uni and really needed proper management.
Beds Wifi Breakfast
Poor lighting. Complicated bath shower controls
Big, comfortable bed. Friendly bar. Good breakfast.
Woken up 4 times in the night by a burglar alarm nearby. Bathroom was modern but poor design - water spread from washbasin and bath.
Large room/ suite. Staff friendly and try to be helpful, but a bit Fawlty Towers
Very noisy. A lot of heavy traffic using the main road in the early hours of the morning. Added to this a bakers shop on the opposite side of the road with van drivers loading up in the early hours.
the breakfast was delicious
my single room was tiny and when I booked I wasn't told there would be a disco playing that night.
The staff were friendly & helpful, facilities and room were very good. I would stay again
No lift to the third floor
From arrival to departing the staff were friendly &helpful with any question you asked .had a problem with allocated room the duty manager couldn't solve the problem but without any hesitation he offered me a new room which proved to be a generous upgrade .as this hotel had just been taken over the same week I have no doubt with it will become a hotel of standing &excellent service
If you were to be picky there were a few areas that need attention to paintwork and other minor details but nothing really to complain about .
Graham tried to be very helpful once he realised we had arrived
No one on reception on arrival, given room with kitchen extractor at window, next room door key would not work. Spa bath in room 1 not working, decor shabby in parts. Asked for breakfast at 7 am, told chef not in, held up on the train. When we asked for a reduction on the invoice told we only pay for the room, breakfast is free! We did have £10 removed from our supper the previous evening. We would not stay again or recommend this hotel to our friends
The service at breakfast was Very poor. The staff did not have a clue how to look After guests. The food was very good.
The location was good, the staff were very nice and the interior was nice and modern and clean. Also, the local brewery in the back car park was good.
The lack of atmosphere in the hotel, especially at breakfast. The dining room was too quiet, maybe some background music would have helped. The noise from outside from 6.30am when the newsagents opposite opened they're shop and shouted a conversation with each other in the street. I also thought the car park could be tidier as the overflowing bins and kegs didn't give a good first impression
We were upgraded to The Penthouse suite which was fab. Our teenage daughters had a double room below which was nice - not very big but adequate. Lots of extras , robes, irons, hairdryers etc - lots of mirrors and plug sockets. Bar & nightclub are good.
Although the hotel is nicely furbished a few things are starting to look a little shabby and could do with a lick of paint. Downstairs room a little sparse. Breakfast wasnt very good, had ran out of some things and as part of the Full english some parts were cold (mushrooms and fresh tomato which was all but raw)
Room was lovely. Very quirky. Comfy bed. Beautiful big free standing bath and walk in shower.
Despite being on the 3rd floor we heard a lot of noise seemingly from the basement bar/club or outside until around 330 am. Made for a poor night's sleep.
The bed was comfortable but way too low to the ground.
Boutique hotel trying to be something it's not. Choice of breakfast cereals abysmal. Cornflakes or weetabix! Small details lacking. No bedside like lamp. No lamp for dressing table cum desk. So dark you couldn't see to do anything at the desk. No mirror either. Could not see to dry hair. No soap at sink. Pretty poor attention to detail overall. Had to keep asking for stuff that was missing.
