I booked a mid-week night at The Raven Inn as I was walking the nearby Offa's Dyke National Trail so I arrived tired and weighed down by my rucksack. Having grown up in the countryside I am all to familiar with the silence which can descend in a local pub when a stranger walks in but The Raven Inn is not one of those places, in fact The Raven is something entirely different and really rather special. I soon found out why - The Raven is a community pub, along with the village shop and local brewery, run by 50+ volunteers who give their time and experience to keep these local amenities going. I was warmly greeted by the bar team and shown up to my room, while they explained where everything was. The rooms are clean, bright, fresh and modern and there was free WIFI. I had the twin room which had been prepared as a King. The kitchen was well equipped to be able to make a meal, but why would you with the pub serving excellent home cooked food so I headed downstairs to do just that. I got a drink at the bar and ordered food - I had a delicious beef chilli and a beer from The Three Tuns brewery. I'll have to come back to taste their local brewery ale. The service throughout was friendly and efficient. I had called a couple of days ahead and asked if they could provide a packed lunch, which I duly found waiting for me when I went up to bed, which the Chef Sue had prepared before she left. While ordering my meal Jenny, who was running the bar, invited me to join a team for the Quiz Night, which I mistakenly took to be politeness rather than a sincere invitation, so in realising my mistake on her second asking I agreed and paid my £1 and joined the team up at the bar (Official Members: Me, Jenny, Les, Mark and Oli + Special Guests). After a very good sleep I made breakfast in the kitchenette and found I had all the equipment I needed.

It was a very functional and useful room. Very good shower and food was very good in the pub itself. Good to have the option of self catering if preferred.all in all a very relaxing stay

As its run by volunteers this can be difficult, we didnt get there til 16.50 but still couldnt get into our room. The attitude is very friendly but perhaps a little too laidback. We didnt mind too much in fairness. Bed was a little too soft.

A very friendly, community run venue. Clean, comfortable and spacious, very comfortable bed. The Raven is a great pub, too, with local real ales and draft ciders. A recent CAMRA Pub of the year and CAMRA Cider pub of the year.

We didn't get chance to sample the food!

The location was lovely, just what i needed. Until.......

I have broken my toe on the folding chair on the morning of departure. I had to request clean towells after three days, and am allergic to mould which needs addressing. The noise of the smoke alarm going off with an electric cigarette from the room next door was terrible. Because no one lives on sight contact numbers should be placed in a prominent place for emergencies. I really wish the community well in their endeavour but stay a weekend and get the feel of the place so you understand from the customers view point.

A true 'heart of the community' friendly pub with a great selection of beers and ciders and good food. Only 15 minutes drive from Llandegla - great place to stay if you are mountain biking for the weekend.

Pub itself very nice and room good

Voluntary-run community pub so no breakfast included, which made it not good value for money compared to similar B&Bs in area. Also tea and coffee provided in room were VERY stale

Position, friendliness of staff, lovely room, a quiet haven. Great fun eating breakfast outside the village shop, took ages owing to friendly chatter from passers by!

Would have been nice to have had evening meal on site but quite understand that a pub run by village volunteers won't be able to do everything all the time. Wouldn't stop me staying there again as there are several eating places within easy reach.
