Friendly, welcoming staff. Clean, large room
The nearby clock tower that struck on the hour throughout the night and woke me up every hour! Not the hotels fault obviously but, did stop me having a good nights sleep!
Large comfortable and clean room. Good food and good selwction of real ales.
It would have been nice to have a shower fitted but I understand that this is being addressed apparently due to poor water pressure
breakfast good bar staff natilie very helpful
dinner burnt sausage burnt not enough parking wifi only in bar not in rooms no shower only bath poor finish in bathroom dusty in bar very under staffed I could carry on but I wont there must be better out there, rooms noisy church bells right on road people walking past drunk
Spotless. Very nice bedroom but didn't like the mixer taps in the shower/bath but just a personal preference. Nice staff and excellent breakfast. Limited parking but free parking nearby. Good position for pubs/restaurants.
The staff were brilliant and could not do enough to help us. We had a large comfortable room. Food was excellent and portions were very generous.
Parking is right outside pub and on crossroads but we managed. We stayed on a Friday night and the youngsters were very noisy on the road outside.Twice during the night we were woken with them shouting and swearing but this is no fault of the proprieters and an unusual occurrence we understand
The decor is very good, and the whole place appears newly decorated. Nice bar in the pub for a quiet drink. We had the family room, which is actually two good sized bed rooms with an en-suite in the adjoining lobby. Staff were all friendly. Dined there one night and the choice and food was excellent - we wished we had eaten there the night before. Be wary of the Traditional English breakfast - its more like man v food - but as its so good we managed to eat it all.
the waitress for breakfast was very friendly and very apologetic about the food options
not enough lighting in the room, room was drafty, door didn't close properly, light switch fell off, bathroom smelt musty, lack of good choice for breakfast ( they had no plain porridge!) bread for toast was stale, not enough parking for the hotel
Excellent rooms, friendly helpful staff, good bar choice .
Nothing really, I ate elsewhere. The menu looks a bit more "cohesive" than when I last stayed
Family room layout - 2 rooms with bathroom was great! Fabulous breakfast
Windows closed on arrival - not great on a boiling hot day and the rooms were on the top floor Windows were very small so didn't let much air in
Quiet rooms Free WiFi Brilliant Breakfast
Location, Quiet Room, Large room, Looked like the beer range was good,
No shower, Room smelled a bit damp, Toaster set the fire alarm off.
Hearty breakfast, nice choice of water tea coffee and biscuits in room. Good to have family facilities with separate rooms. Welcoming staff.
A little pricey given the bathroom and carpeting on stairs and in room rather dated.
No shower screen .. Handheld shower ..very bad lighting, damp on the walls
As good as always, we've been going a few years now and the excellent standards have been maintained.
The service and friendliness of staff from start made you feel at home and the food was excellent quality
A nice traditional but modern hotel full of life in a very attractive area of Wareham.
We had a room in an adjacent building which was very basic and airless. The windows were painted shut, the floors were carpeted and the bathroom had no shower and a bath with a hand shower and no shower curtain. The combination of warm weather and damp left the room with an unpleasant smell and no way of airing it out. A fan was not available. This room was accessible form the main hotel, but the easiest entrance was from a passage off the street. This area was not kept weeded or swept. I will say that the main hotel rooms may be fine.
Fab location for touring. Lovely town with river trips and local walks. The staff were lovely and very obliging with all of our requests, especially Mariola and Beth!
A bit overpriced for the facilities available. Only a hand shower in the bath which is not acceptable in 2014 when paying £115 a night for a room.
Good location for doing the steam train journey
Noise of traffic from the bedroom
it was spotless room was lovely breakfast was nice town was really nice
there was no shower just a shower head
Very friendly - good food and service
Very noisy town clock outside bedroom window, chimes on each hour.
Great dinner food / menu Beautiful room Great location Helpful/ friendly bar staff Clean Good prices Great courtyard / outside space Free Wi-Fi
Food wasnt consistent first day think a young chef was on which meant there were some poor points to breakfast Owner wasnt helpful when approched Parking is difficult and limited and requires improving for the future (maybe the owner / manager should park in the entrance to courtyard allowing there guests another space) and work needs to be done on the chains/ posts. No air con or heating control another thing needed during renovations Wi-Fi limited as located in owners area
- only few parking spots. When asked about where else to park the answer was 'no clue, we told you in the booking confirmation that parking not guaranteed' - It was over 30℃ at night in our rooms after a warm day, windows could hardly be opened, no fans or airco available.
Lovely setting Good food although breakfast portions very large
Room showing signs of damp, no ventilation in bathroom
Central location. Staff helpful & friendly. Facilities in room good. Bar & restaurant has a comfortable ambience. Food very good.
Would have preferred a separate shower. Realise water pressure issue. Would suggest hand rail on wall for step in the bath shower. Some people may have problem with the hourly chiming clock nearby. It's not Big Ben, but can be heard. Just suggest you mention this if allocating the front/side room.
Location, friendliness and cooperation of staff, excellent room (No.4) and bathing facilities.
Under our circumstances we got a parking space, BUT, once we vacated 'that' space we couldnt guarantee getting another - we took the risk of parking on the street or in the Municiple Council Car park. There are 10 bedrooms at 'the Lion - assuming 'one car per bedroom' - there are only 6 parking spaces. Out in the 'town' for a Social night out, but staying in a 'hotel', unable to get a late night drink at the bar because it was shut.
