Thought the retreat was in Portsmouth ....not south sea struggled finding it ....but once there great little place
lovely house, huge bedroom and bathroom. fabulous breakfast. Mark & Sian are a very pleasant couple
The Retreat was very comfortable and so much more personal then staying in a hotel. We were made to feel very welcome.
Good location could walk to all main attractions, friendly welcoming owners, very comfy bed and cracking breakfast. If we ever visit Pompey again would look to book.
A warm friendly welcome in a charming building which has subtle mod cons. Excellent food and facility's and the owners were very polite and helpful. Highly recommended
Nothing to add
Friendliness, quite and peaceful, very clean and the staff very helpful if you needed them. Would certainly stay there again. Thinking of doing it again next year. Fantastic breakfast too!
Can't really think of anything we did not like! Sorry!
We were pleased with our room, which was so comfortable and spotless. Our hosts were charming and very helpful. The breakfast was second to none. Overall atmosphere relaxing and friendly.
Our only observation and this is because we are of an age!! We found the bath a little high and would have liked a bath mat. I don't think younger people would find any problem.
Mark and Sian were warm, helpful and thoroughly professional in the way they made us feel welcomed, and pointed out good restaurants and the sights of Portsmouth.
A very friendly and comfortable atmosphere. We had a delightful stay with Sian and Mark
Excellent welcome and hospitality. Very good breakfast. Rooms decorated to a very high standard. Very spacious bedroom and bathroom. The wine glasses in the cupboard were a very nice touch!
Finding a parking space on the street was a problem though Mark and Sian did kindly loan us a parking permit for the duration of our stay. The bed was a bit on the soft side.
Clean Comfortable Well appointed
Friendly staff, lovely old building with lots of history and spotlessly clean. I will definitely return when in Portsmouth.
cleanliness and friendliness of owner
Beautiful property both inside and out. Large very confortable rooms. Beautifully decorated. Breakfast was very good. Hosts Sian and Mark lovely people, most welcoming and nothing too much trouble.
Sian and Mark were really great, helpful and above all they were like meeting up with old lost friends. They made us very welcome. The bed was comfortable, a lovely size with clean sheets. Breakfast was what ever you wanted, please try the full English, you will not be disappointed. We were given a business parking permit for our stay of 4 days, no problems. The guest house is ideally situated for all the Portsmouth Dock Yard attractions, only a gentle 20 minute walk.
Nothing to dislike!
Mark and Sian were really nice and friendly. Can't fault the facilities or service. Definately recommend this place to anyone. Also accommodated our gluten free needs with gf bread and sausages! Great location too.
Everything, couldn't fault it
excellent hosts very friendly would reccommend .
Beautiful property both inside and out. Large very confortable rooms. Beautifully decorated. Breakfast was very good. Hosts Sian and Mark lovely people, most welcoming and nothing too much trouble. Already booked a return visit for August
Nothing at all
5* beautiful, luxury accommodation, superb breakfast. Highly recommend
What a lovely place and very friendly hosts in Sian and Mark. It is so central that we didn't need to use the car duting our 2 night stay. The rooms are large and very comfortable and the en suite was also large and luxurious. Breakfast was superb with plenty of choice. We will definately be back to further explore the delights of Portsmouth and the hospitality at The Retreat.
Nothing to dislike.
Our room was super luxurious and the whole guest house was absolutely gorgeous. It was a in a superb location for our purposes. Sian and Mark were very welcoming and informative. Mark's breakfast was particularly scrummy, especially the fried bread shaped into little fish! Would most definitely recommend a stay here and will more than likely make a return visit.
Wow! Why can't other hotels follow the high standards of this fabulous guest house? The breakfast alone is worth a night stop over. I felt like I was staying at the home of close friends who couldn't do enough to make me feel comfortable. Plenty of parking outside and around The Retreat Guest House, very close to local amenities and shops. The house is beautifully decorated keeping lots of its original decor. Mark and Sian do everything, from cooking and cleaning to dealing with every detail regarding your stay and as they are the only staff, you are guaranteed a truly five star experience. I have stayed in The Emanuel Suite which is carpeted and the largest of the four rooms ad The Franklin suite(my favourite) which has a comfy four poster bed. Waking up after a peaceful night to the sounds of birds singing was a delight. Can't wait to stay there again, even if its only to enjoy one of Marks breakfasts.
