The Retreat Guest House  

Mark and Sian have created a tastefully decorated home in a very central location to share with guests. Our room, the Ward Room was spacious, with a comfortable bed and luxurious bathroom. You also have the added advantage of relaxing in their delightful living room or sun soaked sitting area on the landing. They were wonderful hosts who provided a tasty breakfast in their lovely dining room overlooking the garden. Numerous restaurants are nearby. We would have no hesitation in recommending this to anyone travelling to Portsmouth.

Very welcoming. Excellent location, within walking distance of shops, restaurants and bars as well as major sights, but very quiet at night. Good choice of breakfast. Highly recommended.

Attention to detail, additional wecome gifts, presentation, carpet, organised informative approach by hoteliers, beautiful presented breakfast with great choice,great friendly atmosphere.

To improve, facility offer a wider selection of teas, bin in room difficult to function as on carpet and kept almost falling over as carpet soft :) could be improved by different choice of waste paper bin that didn't need the facility of a foot leaver. Bathroom door extremely difficult to use as never stayed shut and small window in bathroom that has latch facility could pose danger to younger guests (children) due to drop outside of window.

The location was ideal for visiting The Historic Dockyard. We loved everything about this fantastic B&B and the breakfast was wonderful, cooked to order. Our host could not have been more welcoming and helpful. Convenient for walking to good local restaurants.

Sian and Mark are a super couple with the greatest welcome for you its a super guest house that felt like home , our room was spacious comfortable and spotless the breakfast was superb , with nothing to much trouble for our hosts, looking forward to our next stay with Sian and Mark

We had a very pleasant 3 day stay at The Retreat and we could not fault anything. Sian and Mark are excellent hosts, friendly and very informative about the surrounding area which we had not visited before. Our room was large and extremely comfortable with a lovely bathroom. The hotel is very well located for the local shops, restaurants and bars. We look forward to staying there again if we are in the area.

A relaxing start to our short break in France prior to departing on the early morning ferry. Many thanks for the early morning breakfast which was delicious. We will certainly return and recommend to friends and family. Hopefully, we'll be able to take in a gig next time!!

Everything, helpful friendly staff excellent breakfast, parking on the street but the B&B provided a permit to park on the street free of charge.

As soon as we arrived we were made to feel welcome, Sian and Mark were very good hosts. The rooms were spacious and well appointed, the beds were very comfortable, bathrooms were good size and the whole place was spotlessly clean. The breakfast was excellent with a good choice for every taste and plenty of it. The Guest House is perfectly located for either all the main attractions of Portsmouth and is also good for Southsea area and sea front, it is also quietly situated away from the main traffic routes. We would certainly recommend it.

Große, geräumige und sehr saubere Zimmer, sehr freundliche Besitzer, schöne Atmosphäre, sehr nah zum Stadtzentrum, dennoch sehr ruhig gelegen.

Une belle grande maison ancienne bien maintenue avec des chambres confortables et bien aménagées au goût du jour. Sa situation bien localisée pour se rendre dans les restaurants à pieds ainsi qu'une rue piétonne pour magasinage et proche du bord de l'eau. Le petit déjeuner est très bien dans une belle salle à manger. Nous avons bien aimé!

Empfang durch Sian war sehr freundlich. Großes und liebevoll eingerichtetes Zimmer. Lage sehr gut, da alles zu Fuß erreichbar. Frühstück sehr reichlich und auf Wunsch werden weitere Wünsche gerne erfüllt. Kommen gerne wieder.

Super Ort! Nahe vieler Restaurants und Shops. Sehr ruhige Lage. Super nette Mitarbeiter. Die Zimmer sind aussergewöhnlich gross und wunderschön im englischen Stil gehalten. Jederzeit gerne wieder!
