The Richmond House Hotel  

The location was good, value for money excellent, breakfast was suprisingly good and the staff really helpful and friendly.

Richmond House Hotel was easy to find and accessible to the city. It was nice and clean and very convenient with a restaurant in it.

Location for city centre was good

Everything. Almost didn't even go in as frontage messy and view of windows, blinds etc dismal. Waited at door after ringing doorbell twice, lobby smelled of burnt cooking, staff lied to us about breakfast being in restaurant, we found wrapped plate of stale croissants, muesli bars and not very fresh fruit outside room in morning (no side plates, juice etc). Room was cold, dusty, towels stained, carpet and walls badly marked, could feel springs through very poor mattress, no extra pillows, no chairs (just a very small folding stool). Bathroom door didnt close properly with no lock, had to ask for toilet roll, shower tray outer dusty, inner greasy and with hair in it. Decor generally poorly finished and layout cramped and room directly off front lobby and hence front door. Plate at front door claims every room has various usual items but also hair dryer and trouser press which ours did not. Barely recognisable as same place as shown in website photos. Have stayed in other budget hotels in Edinburgh city centre as well as many others all over the globe but never have I seen such a poor excuse for a hotel. Do not go there, it was disgusting!

Staff were very friendly. Room was clean. Breakfast was good. Location was close to the centre. Great if you are just looking for a place to sleep.

The room was cold at night but there was an extra blanket so it wasn't a big problem. Also the bathroom was very 1970's and it definitely didn't have a power shower but it did the job.

I liked everything! Breakfasts were perfect!

It was only too cold in my room :(

This was the worst hotel I have ever stayed at. My room was not ready when I arrived at 3pm. There was also no heating on it was so cold that I did not want to undress for a shower. When asked by a member of staff if I was enjoying my stay I told them no and why this was and still nothing was done I would not recommend this hotel to anybody.

We used the Thai restaurant and found it very good.

You get what you pay for. This was value for money but not top class

Location, cleanliness and relaxed atmosphere

Only continental breakfast offered - would have preferred choice of cooked breakfast.

2Nd time I've stayed there and once again very impressed by the standard and all for a very reasonable price

Breakfast was very good.

Although I arrived at 19.00 had to wait 10 minutes in front of a locked door, because inside "it was to busy", also nobody answered the telephone while I waited outside :((. Old-fashioned room, bad bed, and very very old windows... Internet connection was not working, had to subscribe to BTFON in order to send some very urgent e-mails.

New, white bedding. Thick white bath sheets brilliant!

Another pillow on each bed please.

This hotel was horrible, the staff were not plesant, we did not realise it was attached to a chinese restarant/takeaway which ment the place stank!!!! We didnt even stay the night after arguing about paynent to the so called manager we walked out and stayed else where, but still got charged the full amount!!!

Convenient for the Playhouse

It was very basic but adequate for a short trip.
