Staff slow to check us in and not overly welcoming. Didn't give us much information as to what was available.
bed was very comfortable and bar/lounge area cosy.
Given room 31>had bucket to catch leak from toilet inflow. If I had not stayed inroom emptying the bucket the bathroom etc. would have flooded within 6/8 hours. Management advised
Bad WiFi signal
room & bathroom could have been a bit cleaner ie ; bath water not been run for some time as black water came out
staff & food were excellent, very friendly &helpful
Sound proofing between rooms in the second building is poor.
Comfy bed, good shower, free wifi, good breakfast included.
The hotel was busy with a wedding when we arrived and it took about 10 minutes to find a member of staff to check us in. There's a beautiful wide staircase up to the first floor but the staircase to the second floor is really steep. We stayed in room 10 but having paid extra for a garden view room (and having requested a quiet room) I was disappointed to find my room overlooked the carpark so we had the noise of the guests leaving the wedding and people standing outside to smoke. The paintwork on the window frames in the room is peeling and cracking and the carpet looked dirty, giving the appearance that cleanliness is below par although the rest of the room looked to be clean. We had problems with the hot water not working and having run the hot top for 10 minutes we called reception and were told they'd send a maintenance man, we were then phoned back 2 minutes later telling us to just run the hot water tap for longer and it took a 15 minutes before we got any hot water, which was then too hot to shower under and couldn't be adjusted. We ended up having to use the bath which is only really suitable for thin people under 5ft 5 otherwise it's a nightmare to get in and out of and my partner (who's 6ft) ended up with knots in his shoulders from the squeeze. Having spent so long messing around with the hot water we ended up missing breakfast, so we just checked out and left. Altogether I was thoroughly disappointed, especially as Id been really looking forward to my stay in what looked to be a beautiful hotel on the surface. Lastly, as someone who needs to use a wheelchair/ walking stick on a regular basis, it's important to know that the hotel has no lift and no adaptions and if I wasn't having a 'good' day the hotel would have been completely inaccessible.
The hotel is beautiful and set in an amazing location. It has a long and interesting history and if Id been staying longer I would have explored the grounds and chapel more. The bed was comfortable and at check in and out the reception staff were friendly and helpful.
Nothing in particular.
Great location with good VFM.
Lovely hotel and lovely location could not fault this hotel at all
Disappointed with breakfast, didn't enjoy sausage egg was too greasy
Comfortable bed and great room
Staff all very friendly and efficient. Evening meal excellent and very good value for money. Breakfast choices very good. would definitely stay again
The fabulous old building and location.the staff was very pleasant evan though they were understaffed.
Had to ask 3 times for a hair dryer that was missing from my room!
Friendly staff & lovely surrounding
Room 38, borders the road and was noisy, both at night but particularly in the early morning.
The building itself> close parkig > the outlook to the "grounds"
Exceptionally good service from all staff, from checking in, meal service to departure. Very good food with exciting veggie options. Great breakfast too. Wonderful historic buildings, make sure you ask to see the chapel & ask for the history printout from reception. Very comfortable peaceful room, (7), sensitive to historic building. Countryside views & no traffic noise. Ask for a room in the main building as I've seen variable reviews of the courtyard rooms.
Staff on reception were very good when they were there but the desk is often unmanned and phones go unanswered - creates a bad impression. Also some bar and restaurant staff were appeared a bit unprofessional
Lovely hotel in beautiful surroundings. Disappointing not be staying in the main building - it should be made clear when booking that all standard rooms are in the annexe. Nice restaurant with good, well priced food. Nice choice at breakfast
the only things wrong was we could not seem to get on the wi fi and there was not enough choice on the menu for children.
We only stopped for 1 night but had stopped here before, we enjoyed our short stay. Family and friends came to see us and have a meal with us while we where there every thing was lovely.
Helpful friendly staff, very approachable; good food, lovely setting, enjoyable stroll through grounds and visit to Chapel. Query re history resulted in speedy download of information.
No Bar staff for 10 minutes, she was helping out in restaurant, not idea really.
Just a lovely place out in the countryside, fabulous grounds and wildlife everywhere.
We were in annex - Large room - decor - tired - bathroom door no lock and kept popping open while in use !! Evening meal got wrong order took it back when returned steak stone cold had to go back again - husband had to start his meal before mine eventually right - breakfast forgot husbands toast had to be reminded and it arrived when meal almost finished.
Main hotel had character in the respect of the age and history. One of the evening waitresses was very good and was very embarrassed about the problem with my food and had the bill reduced by the amount of my meal.
It was great I was shown to where my room was. I really appreciate that when I am tired after a long journey.
Welcoming staff Intriguing history of the property Surrounding landscape - beautiful
Not a good point having to walk across the car park for meals should have been told about this when booking
Booked superior room but what we got was a superior superior room, fabulous
Visit was for a family birthday party and this was an ideal venue. If I am in this area again I would happily stay here. Don't understand reviews on another site as I found all staff to be friendly and courteous.
