Beautiful old hotel with atmosphere. Lounge and bar were great with quiet areas to sit and newspapers and books. Hotel building kept warm. All furnishings well kept. Excellent grounds to walk in and beautiful surroundings. Very poor lighting in rooms and some area of hotel. (lighting too poor to read in rooms). Wifi too weak in our room, (28 in annex). On arrival heating off in annex. Poor service to get a drink in lounge bar and ran out of afternoon tea early afternoon. |

Very relaxing and a beautiful setting. The historic building added to the quality of the weekend. Good to be able to have coffee in a separate seating area after dinner. Seemd to be a mix up with the booking. My confirmation from booking.com said I had booked 3 rooms. Hotel seemed to think I had booked 6! |

The food! The poor level of light in the rooms of the annexe and the thin walls which meant that next door's activities were all too apparent |

very attractive hotel, steeped in history and an old world grace and charm, with friendly helpful staff thin walls to rooms in the annex meant it was very noisy, (plumbing, water running, people talking and shutting doors) and becaue of this it did not feel very private.Although comfortable, the double bed seemed relatively small for 2 people of normal size! |

Overall the hotel experience was fair. We booked last minute and got a good rate of £30pppn. The room was the last one available and was reflected in the rate, an attic room fairly basic. The hotel setting was extremely pretty and internally the main public areas were well maintained. We dined in the restaurant in the evening and whilst the main course was very good the starter of scallops and black pudding was extremely small, only one scallop was used per portion, finely sliced to illustrate more....poor value due to the cost of this starter. The other issue was the staff setting up for breakfast whilst we were eating (we were the last diners of the evening at 9.15pm) this was quite noisy and we also had staff walking back and forward through the diningroom the transport buffet food to a reception of a wedding which was taking place that day. It was not conducive to a romantic dinner..more like a railway station concourse!! |

The staff were pleasant and they made the stay enjoyable. The quality of service for dinner was not acceptable. The scallop strater was not good value for money at £8.00, with just some cress as a garnish.I ordered a medium rare steak and it was served up over well done. I ended up not eating a main course at all. There was no cutlery or table cloth on the table, when the food was served. At breakfast, the crumbs from the previous guests at the table were swept on to the floor. The staff could do with some customer service training. |

I am fascinated by the history of the building and its connection to the Templars, Babbington & Wilberforce. Did Sir Walter Scott ever stay there? If so it could give you another real edge!!!! |

This is a nice looking hotel from the outside, set in extensive attractive grounds. The main areas of the hotel are all nicely traditionally furnished, but I've now stayed here twice and on each occasion my room has only been 'ok'. The rooms I have stayed in have never done the rest of the hotel justice. Pity. |

Bar staff & dining staff extreemly helpful. Different prices the wedding party paid including the Brides parents whose room was not booked and so was other rooms that had been pre booked. People putting drinks on other peoples rooms, no signing needed or proof staying. Brides parents having a bar bill and they DONT even drink alcohol!!!!! How can this happen? |

beautiful setting, rooms small but comfortable, historic building, reaonable price (would have been disappointed if had paid the standard £120 price) staff friendly and helpful breakfast a bit hit and miss, most of juices empty, no pastries or rolls, no milk staff very harassed. we went down at about 9.40 am. Most items were eventually replenished but more staff needed. |

Lovely environment, and the breakfast was great Very quiet at night, so no atmosphere- we went to the village pub! Very meagre 'supplies' in the room i.e. only 1 bath towel, 2 tea bags, 2 milk...Had to ask for more of everything |

Lovely setting, beautiful building. The service was not great. We had our starter served before we were asked if we'd like drinks, the table was not set properly (ie no cutlery, not enough glasses), the food was not brilliant. Basically, the service was not personal eno0ugh and this was a shame as it was Grandmothers 90th Birthday and one of the rare occasions the whole family were together. |
