Staff and food are excellent
Bathroom was a bit on the small side
the bed was rock hard. the room was very hot. and curtains very thin kept awake by police lights flashing. no soap in shower. didnt get the breakfast i asked for
You could feel every spring in the bed and they didn't have a spare mattress topper. Toilet wouldn't flush and it couldn't be fixed on the night. The blind wouldn't close and fell on my partner.
The staff were really nice.
This is more of a tavern than a hotel, used by workmen for over night stays. Stayed one night got a refund and went to a four star hotel for a much cheaper price. I would look elsewhere before checking into this hotel the rooms look okay on their site, but they are grubby.
The Breakfast was delicious and staff were great.
We had no hot water for 2 days!! Luckily we had family nearby and we used there shower. We were given one nights full refund. Squeaky floor boards and better quality windows needed as road noise was aweful. I wouldn't go back.
- Friendly, helpful staff. - Very nice breakfast and included in the cost of the room.
- When trying to sleep all I could hear was very loud drums and singing which went on until about midnight. - The room was unbearably hot. Radiator was turned off, window opened and I still couldn't sleep through the awful heat!! - Window blind would not close - I had to weigh it down to get some privacy. - Bathroom door had no lock and had to be forced to even close (this is in a family room so a bit of a problem).
price, good value for price
Interesting old building with a well maintained feel about it. Room and bathroom were adequte and everything worked well - bath filled really quickly etc. Couldn't decide if I liked the stripey carpets which were uniform throughout the residential areas but at least they were well cleaned. Breakfast was good and the log fire in the bar area was particularly welcome
Thin walls - could hear the television in neighboring bedroom
Friendly staff, comfy bed, clean place and great food
The food in the bar was good, reasonable sized portions as well.
Breakfast was good and the property was clean
Cold in room at first
Most comfortable bed I have ever slept in away from home. Bathroom spotlessly clean. Even though the restaurant was full with Christmas Party Bookings, they still found room for us to dine. Breakfast the following morning couldn't be faulted......so much choice & so much food :) And to top it all off there was a roaring log fire in the bar area ~ very welcome on a cold December night.
Nothing ... there wasn't anything to dislike!
Good large bed Food plentiful Bath and shower
Broken shower - told it was fixed but it still fell down. Restaurant more like a railway station cafe.
Generally this hotel/pub meets all of the basic requirements and is situated well for travelers on business. Food menu is not over elaborate but portions are generous. Stayed here last in December 2014 and room was cold, when I asked bar staff the reason I was told heating doesn't come on until after 7 pm, it still had not come on at 8pm.
All of the stairs and the cold (take your own fan heater)
We were there for New Years eve and paid£160 for a room and a meal so didn't expect much but it was a nightmare from start to finish first with the room and then the meal was very very poor the guy that served us didn't want to be there he was very arrogant and I'm sure he didn't want us there either he knows who he is guy with the suit on, terrible spoilt our night and new year
Friendliness of staff.
Bathroom needs refurb. Towel rail rusty and bathroom smelt damp. To much bad language in the bar. Very cold in bar and restaurant. Breakfast not as advertised on menu.
overall the stay was enjoyable it was clean and tidy with good food and friendly staff. The family room sleeping area was fine.
the family room was in the attic area and both myself at 5-11" and my son at 6-4" found we could not get into the bath due to the shower screen and were unable to stand in front of toilet due to height of the ceiling
Staff were extremely helpful and accommodating despite being short handed. Nothing was too much trouble and the food was lovely
The room was in a poor state of repair, with a substandard bathroom and broken window. The room didn't satisfy health and safety requirements in my opinion.
Pet friendly Most of the staff tried their best to sort the problems Room 12 had a walk-in shower
Hideous metal grill at reception Extremely tired and dated looking Dreadful decor Plaster falling off ceiling into bath Lightbulbs not working Hot, stuffy room Couldn't open all windows due to old paint No disabled access rooms No disabled parking Couldn't park either night at hotel
Location ideal. Food very good.Staff friendly and helpful.Room comfortable. Breakfast very good.
No shelf in bathroom, sink loose and leaks a bit. Drinks prices in the bar too expensive.
Bathroom was the smallest I have encountered and it needed improvement to it.
Staff was very friendly and we had no problem in bringing along our 2 dogs (cocker spaniels). Traditional structure, a little bit tire sometimes but bathroom was new and very good. Good table and space for our PC and bags. Pub underneath was noisy (Saturday night) but at midnight it went quiet and we had a good night sleep. Breakfast in the pub (lovely decoration and space!) and very well served even for vegetarians like us. Good location for visiting Portsmouth and the Historic Dockyard.
Hair-dryer weak and cold. Improve the way complimentary tea is presented.
Barman was decent. The drive home was good!
Bedroom; Sticky surfaces including telephone. Broken bathroom lights, broken soap holder, very poor shower, rusty radiator, poor quality grouting, patches of plaster on walls. Bedroom; Blind that wouldn't stay down, sticky surfaces including telephone. Wi-fi wouldn't work on 2nd floor (in our room)
Went on a shopping trip for Portsmouth Xmas fayre easy to find easy to get to town and to road links. Staff were all friendly helpfully and accomadating. We felt very comfortable and welcome. The food both at breakfast and evening meals was wonderful as again was the service all also good value.
