Staff were very friendly and helpful. Room was tastefully decorated, clean and light. Bed was very comfortable. Plenty of tea, coffee etc in room. Good choice for breakfast.
Quite noisy early the next morning as right overlooking a busy road.
This hotel is full of history and character in a very convenient location for the town of Bideford across the river.
Some of the staff were a bit "stuffy" and formal. The bathroom could do with a little modernisation.

Having to get tokens to exit car park
The room was spacious and well equipped. Breakfasts were excellent with good choice. We dined in one evening and found the choice and quality very good. General facilities and staff helpfulness of highest calibre.
The free Wifi was erratic in the bedroom. Connection often difficult to make and then collapsed in use. It was OK in the dining room and lounge. Suggests signal not getting through the walls, and perhaps sensitive to level of usage.
The food was excellent
The Parking as there was only one disabled parking space that was used by people without disabled badges, therefore making it difficult for me
Noise from boiler and wedding reception kept us awake
Close proximity to restaurants. Short bus ride to Appledore and Instow, bus stop immediately outside hotel. Pleased the hotel had a lift to all floors.
Loved the Kingsley Room.Loved the situation overlooking the river. Was pleased with the peace -no irritating music- and space of the dining room, as well as the quality of the food and wine.
Lack of disposable shower caps.Their literature recommended showers rather than baths for eco reasons but as I hadn't packed my shower cap I had to take baths after all.
A great hotel with really great staff and great dinners and breakfasts.
The bed was too soft for us and had "roll together". Otherwise everything was excellent.
My sister and i spent 2 nights at the Royal. Staff were wonderful. Room was lovely, clean with extremely comfortable beds. We had bed and breakfast, the food was beautiful i would strongly recommend this hotel to others.
Excellent position near town. Pretty outlook over bridge from our large well appointed room. Good breakfast
Very noicy plumbing from ensuite toilet
Hotel was in the centre of Bideford and easy to get to. Staff were efficient and helpful. Rooms were well equiped and very clean. Bed was comfy, I had a really good nights sleep!
We shared the hotel with a coach tour party, at 67 years old we were the youngest by at least ten years. Dinner was great, the room was great and the staff were excellent. However, poor second to the feeling of youth.
Shower was not great
Absolutely superb hotel, with the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in-my husband said he felt like he was sleeping on a cloud! Breakfast was lovely. I was in a good location, and there was ample parking. Plenty of sockets in the room and tasty local "Miles" tea and coffee was provided. The shower was lovely. There was a bath mat and handles fitted around the bath, which helped us. I was pleased to see a hairdryer and plenty of pillows provided.
The breakfast room had no windows, which I thought was a shame as it was lovely weather.
room service was convienient and good quality.
very dated decor. unable to krep yhe key for your room and had to be let in by a night porter.
Large room. Clean room and bathroom. Excellent breakfast and dinner.
Very hot room : the windows don't open properly but fortunately, there was a fan.
Food was nice and Hot
Waited 50 minutes for my food order to arrive when in the Bar
Great value friendly staff close to the town I travel around the country a lot working and can honestly say this is one of the best places I have ever stayed in thanks
large room with a huge comfy bed.
The price, but you get what you pay for so its worth it.
Room size excellent, comfortable bed, recently upgraded bathroom lovely, all staff including chambermaid and bar staff really friendly and helpful. We would definitely stay here again
Food was excellent Staff were friendly and helpful
Tired decor, needs some TLC Small room Noisy toilet
The room is extremely beautiful with one of the most stunning plaster ceilings in Devon - a county renowned for plasterwork of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. The hotel is worth a visit for this alone. Reception was particularly helpful.
Superb breakfast, comfortable bed, pleasant and helpful staff, quiet room.
Room serviced rather late in the day. Shower leaked along end of bath. Wardrobe space somewhat limited by having ironing board stored inside.
