On the banks of the Lune River, the Holiday Inn Lancaster features an indoor swimming pool and sauna. Just off Junction 34 of the M6 highway, the center of Lancaster is a 30-minute riverside walk...
Score from 495 reviews Very good
Overlooking the canal, the central Penny Street Bridge is a friendly hotel close to shops and restaurants. It has free internet access, a stylish bar and a relaxed restaurant.
Score from 203 reviews Excellent
This hotel is just a 3 minute drive from highway M6, close to Lancaster University and a short ride from the historic city of Lancaster.
Score from 348 reviews Excellent
This 17th century, luxury, boutique hotel is the only 4-star hotel in the center of Lancaster, and is superbly situated in the heart of the city.
Score from 332 reviews Excellent
The staff, who were all very helpful and friendly. The excellent, value for money breakfast. The very, of it's period lift. I did notice in passing other rooms that some updating is being carried on, and once that is completed, with some more improvements in the corridors and stairs the hotel in in an ideal central part of Lancaster.
The bedroom could have done with a dust and a vacuum. As I have found over the years most single rooms in old hotels are very small and this one was no exception, the plus point being that the view over the city was great.
Beds moving when getting in
Room was nice and clean and warm. Staff were pleasant and very helpful.
when we got there the lift wasn't working and we were on the 3rd floor. It was fixed the following morning
Good breakfast in a grand dining room on the first floor Corridors spacious Brilliant location bang in the city centre, 5 mins from bus and rail stations
Missed the turn in to the car park and would have had to go right round the one way system a second time to get my car on it
The staff were helpful in trying to sort out problems with the rooms being too hot.
The thermostat on the radiator had been left on Max so the room was very hot. Second room they tried for me was the same. Third room was just about cool enough, but had to have window open as wide as it would go all night despite noise outside. Also windows did not open much which limited the cooling.
We booked last minute, the last double room available for a Sat night stay. . .After being handed our key at reception we made our way upstairs and on entering the room, we were shocked to find our room had a four poster bed (which was very comfy) and a lovely view of the Castle. A good quality breakfast served by very attentive staff. All in all, a very enjoyable stay which we will consider doing again on our next visit to Lancaster.
Bathroom , although very small, serves its purpose, but would benefit for a lick of paint, it's looking a little tired and considering how nice the Castle View bedroom is the bathroom needs a little TLC, but other than that 10/10.
Basic but clean plesant staff
No bar no atmosphere the title didnt live up to its grandure. But hey you get what you pay for !!!! At £36 per room it met requirements.
The room was clean where it mattered. Bed linen, towels, bathroom. The staff were friendly and helpful.
I was cold. The temperature of the room was fine, but the bed cover was too thin for comfort so woke in the night. The night porter was not able to find a blanket for me, but instead brought up a fan heater. Unfortunately it was noisy so I had to turn it off. There was no headboard so it was difficult to read in bed or watch TV from the bed. I could not work out how to use the shower, and in the process of finding out pulled the top off the hot water tap. The water was still on but managed to get it back after a struggle, and turn the water off. Had a shallow bath in the end. Rose and left early as could not sleep and had a long way to go. The room was badly in need of an upgrade, being very shabby.
Good location, good off-street parking and good breakfast (have stayed here many times before)
The building is beginning to get run down and in need of renovation (rotten window frames, broken radiators, mis-match taps, peeling paintwork)
Attractive historic building in the heart of the city. Good shower, comfy bed, clean room, tastefully decorated
some road noise; the furniture in the lobby was a little worn
Hotel clean and staff very helpful. Good location with shops and restaurants on the doorstep.
Bedroom very cold when we arrived. Bar closed on the evening we were at the hotel.
This hotel seems to generate its trade from contractors working locally. As such it's fairly basic and the on-line price I paid was reasonably but I wouldn't have expected to pay the full advertisied price. The reception staff were pleasant enough. The decor has the potential to be very nice but is spoilt by having no style to it. this should highlight the classic age of the building and it's history. Why not open out the fire place and have a real open fire on a winter's night.
I understand that the hotel is undergoing renovation (which was advertisied as happening in Sept '14 - i stayed in Dec '14 and it was still in a fairly transitional stage) but everything seems to be broken or need replacing. doors not painted (and very plain) A decent hotel manager would do a tour of rooms and see that curtains are hanging off, switches are broken, loo roll holder is broken etc. as well as light in the hall not working (making the whole place very gloomy.) Having the staff in a basic uniform (black trousers / skirt and white shirt / blouse) seems a fairly easy way of radiating a professionalism that wearing a checked lumberjck shirt on reception and leggings and a t shirt as a waitress just doesn't do. Also - someone with a sense of style needs to look at things like light fittings (of a size to match the area and age of the building) and pictures - again of a suitable size - the breakfast room was bare to the point of being spartan. if they really want to invest in the restaurant which they say they do then creating the right atmoshpere is what will drive people to the place - not just the food. None of this is beyond the wit of a good manager to change. and wouldn't cost the earth.
The bar was not open whilst we stayed there
the staff were freindly and helpful, great location
a little expensive for condition of corridoes, stairs etc compared to budget hotels
The breakfast was good
Location, really handy for all the bars and the railway station making it ideal for our party
Clean, cheap, good location, room wasn't too noisy despite being in centre of Lancaster. Staff helpful.
Room was cold. The radiator was situated in the bathroom, none in the bedroom ! Had to ask for a separate heater and extra blanket.
Perfectly situated near to the station. Small but comfortable bedroom including unusually (for a hotel) comfortable pillows and room temperature. Pleasant, helpful staff. Lowest price I have ever found for equivalent accommodation.
it was just so cosy.
I loved this place. Where it was located, the style of building, the view from our room, the facilities in our room. There was nothing I would change.
Nothing. ok, so it's a dated building with dated decor, but there wasn't a thing they hadn't thought of (other than a hook to hang my coat on in the room) and it was clean. If you want five star decor, pay five star prices, but the overall facilities won't be any better than this hotel offered.
Lovely accommodating staff -looked after my bags even after checkout whilst I was at interview. Beautiful old building. Central location. Great value for money.
It does need refurbishing but for the price this didn't bother me at all.
Mould in bathroom dust all over battered furnishings
Good value and well situated for city center.
One room was airless and stuffy and windows were nailed shut.
