poor cooked food staff do not listen to your request
No music-it was quiet and relaxing Excellent shower Very good menu Excellent service Beautiful gardens
A bit out of town
The Isle of Wight is lovely. The hotel is in a charming town, a great location with one of the nicest spots for s sundowner you'll ever find. Superb 3 course dinner at a reasonable price, great comfy room, generous breakfast.
Excellent location, near beach and Ventnor seafront High standard of cleanliness Very helpful staff
Small details not commensurate with price of rooms including stained carpet, toilet roll holder loose, one of the side lamps uneven. Lack of consistency in quality of food. On one evening the evening meal was poor - cold and over salted, on the other evening the food was excellent.
I liked the location, very close to the seaside, in a quiet area, a lot outdoor space, nice tiny pool, swing for children. The staff was very kind, we had a spacious room on the back and it was pleasant, quite and relaxing. The communal area are really good.
There is no wi-fi in any room, but only in the communal area. They have no bar in the room. I was absolutely disappointed by the dinner (starter and main) but I loved the dessert. There is no balancing between food (poor) and dessert (excellent). The dinner is really expensive for what you get. The breakfast was slightly disappointing.
Garden, view, location, quality of food, spa
Slightly on the high end of the price table
Don't expect luxury like in Europe. The hotel has seen better days .Inside and outside. Vistitors are mainly elderly English people who come for the traditional setting. But this tradition makes it charming. If you are looking for it. Restaurant was perfect. The meal was was perfect, worthy of a Michelin star.
At check in we had to wait for 10 minutes while receptionist made a Chrismas reservation on the telephone (it was august!). Gave us a Fawlthy Towers feeling. Pool area is very small in an unkept garden.
Quiet peaceful + restful
Gardens and location. Conservatory and veranda area.
Room was very very noisy due to kitchen extractor!
The gardens, flowers and plants and having scones in the gardens.
When weather is hot.
The location and views stunning
£25 for dogs excessive
Excellent breakfast, Good grounds and views, Parking was adequate,
Room too small, bed too big for room! Too much furniture in room, made it even more cluttered. No wifi in rooms, No mobile signal in rooms, Too many stairs to room, No modern amenities - such as air conditioning. Dated décor.
The cleanliness of the rooms. The attention from the staff The facilities on offer. A general air of luxury and restfulness The breakfast The comfortable beds The gardens
The decor. Mushroom grey is not very flattering to the rooms. The view from my window. My daughters had a beautiful view. Although I paid less for my room perhaps the cost should be more reduced for rooms that look out the back onto a lorry.
We thought the service was outstanding, the staff could not have been more helpful. The food was excellent and both rooms we had during our stay were most comfortable
The fact we could not eat earlier in the evening. We are over 80 and like to eat around 7pm
Staff were extremely friendly, professional and polite. The location as expected was exceptional. The room was very comfortable but a little aged. Hotel grounds were well kept and an absolute pleasure to relax in on a warm summer day. A fine wine cellar and good food with "Cake o'clock" and High Tea obviously a show winner with both locals and tourists alike. We are looking forward to our next visit already
Rooms would benefit from having a modern iron and ironing board available in the room. Fine dining was a little marred by a poor lamb dish that I had to send back, however the replacement was excellent.
Nothing in particular, thankfully a good restaurant (Hambrough restaurant) was in walking distance.
coming back to room in the evening not cleaned (had to ask for towels then cleaning of the room during dinner) dated room
the complaints were dealt with in a calm manner . we loved our stay at the Royal and will definately be back again.
my partners ommellete was runny in the middle. her steak was gristly and tough.
The location was beautiful - The Riviera Terrace does indeed live up to its name - OK and thank you for arranging the Red Arrows fly past for my wife's birthday. Just a beautiful peaceful location, great food, great staff - all wonderful!!
What didn't we like ??? - Leaving the Royal! Hopefully see you again soon!
Excellent staff and very good food. Nice ambience and character about the hotel.
Fine location by the sea and the harbour. Well furnished rooms. Historic old building with beautiful staircase. Go for room with sea view and balcony. Friendly staff.
Dinner did not have enough fish on the menu. Poor service in restaurant at dinner.
The ambience and the friendliness and quiet attention of the staff.
Tortuouse roads and steep hills!!!
The Royal were exceptional, the staff were very accommodating and the facilities were excellent. I could not fault the food it was just excellent and I would certainly recommend anybody to go to the Royal.
Staff were exemplary , food exquisite. Loved it so much we booked an extra night!
Wifi not really good but nice not to be governed by it
Very fast journey from London with a no fuss ferry service plenty to see and do if you wish with a beautiful location when you arrive. Ventnor has been tastefully brought up to date while keeping the best of the old and The Royal in my opinion could not be better.
Period old world charm. Elegant dining room and bar
The bedroom could do with being modernised
