The staff were helpful, friendly and I was happy with my experience with them. The location was good because it's near to everything.
I wasn't quite happy with the fact that the room was damp, if the window wasn't open for a long period of time when I went out, it would smell like damp and when waking up in the morning I was breathing that air in, the shower could have been cleaner as well as the floors in the room and the toilet. Though the toilet was clean the floors didn't look like they'd been paid much attention. It seems as though some repair work is going on so I'm sure this will change in the long term future.
Not much, the iron burn marks on the carpet was a highlight.
check in was between certain awkward time, rooms were small and the toilet was located down the hall whilst the shower and sink was situated so close to the bed i may as well have been sleeping with them.
Very close to town, friendly staff. building itself had lots of character. The decor is tired, but there was a sign in the foyer advising that it was under renovation
Bed was a tad lumpy with just the sheet over the mattress. When I booked there was no indication that breakfast would be unavailable
Perfect for the High Street. Good value. Room had everything necessary for convenience.
Bathroom needs to be upgraded.tile missing. Mouldy sealant round the bath.
This place should be condemned.
The hotel was conveniently located and cheap. The room was dry and beds comfortable.
The receptionist seemed to be on a personal phone call when I arrived and not very welcoming. The hotel was undergoing some much needed redecoration during my stay and had no facilities available. When I returned with my car just before 2200, the car park was locked and I had to use a public car park. All in all a bit shabby. I'm not likely to stay again. When I left at about 0700 there was no sign of anyone.
Broken spring in bed Room in poor condition, ie ceilings covered in damp Food stains on wall and bed linen No food available although hotel website claimed it had. No heating in room
The location and the four poster bed
There was never any staff present we had to ask for tea coffee and milk to be replenished nobody ever came to the room to make the bed.The furnishings were dated ,the shower didn't work properly, the toilet was very badly stained, the net in the bathroom was filthy. The T V was out of the ark with a box ,the reception was awful. The double gates to the yard were locked most nights in the week you had to unlock them and step over a foot high piece of wood not good if you are elderly or infirm .Would I go again to Rochester yes to the Bull no no no.
Location Historical surroundings Off street parking Comfortable room The double room was large and airy Ensuite was good Period and historical pictures on hotel walls
Room not cleaned everyday Broken shower fitting taped up! Bathroom shaving light did not work Carpet in room a bit shabby (looks Victorian in age!)
Tv only had 1 channel due to a broken ariel- could not change room as there was no staff and a caretaker only on check in. No phone reception, wifi only in reception. Walls are paper thin. I had to endure jacksons greatest hits for 2 nights until the early hours. I agree with the previous review that if you wanted to end it- this would be the ideal place to come. Shower had a lot of mould. Enjoy your stay :) - I checked out after a 2nights into a 4 night stay.
The staff were very attentive. Our requests and queries were responded to quickly. They were also honest about the hotel's situation.
It is unfair to be negative at this time. The hotel was allowed to go into decline and now the owners are trying to modernise it. This is reflected in the price. At this stage I could not recommend it to anyone who did not know the Bull in former years or the area today. But I think the work they are doing seems to be good and in the right order. However that does mean the bedrooms have yet to be modernised. I will definitely go there again at festival time and to watch the hotel's progress. It will be interesting to follow its journey into modernisation.
staff at reception were friendly, bed was comfortable.
décor needed a bit of attention
nice and quiet! great location!
Location was great
Decor, place really needs redecorating.
Great central location; well equipped rooms.
No staff at reception desk on arrival. When staff member finally came, not able to check us in, had to find someone else. Apparently renovations ongoing, therefore no breakfast avail. Not a big problem but should have been advised of that at booking & price of rooms should have reflected. Had 2x2 single bed rooms; one room had unbelievably lumpy/uncomfortable mattress. No staff at reception at check out. Left keys with note on desk!!!
Its closeness to the Cathedral and other points of interest was what attracted us; we had not been to Rochester before, so were looking forward to seeing such a historic site; this part of the visit was fine, but not the accommodation.
They are in the middle of extensive renovation work and so should have closed down; the fact that they asked us to pay on arrival should have warned us. All was shabby, paper peeling off the wall, furnishings old and frayed, shower held together with sticky tape Ghastly.
location good Newly refurbished bar
no tv reception in room poor lighting no radio bathroom facilities poor
old, smelly, damp, stains, rabbit warren corridors, paper thin walls, disgusting black moldy broken shower, cables for 1980,s tv all coming from gang plug on floor, only one tv channel worked for me. no staff available in evening. mattress felt slightly damp, large iron burn on carpet.
The bed was the cleanest thing in the room comfortable enough for one night . The price was fine at £40. For the night. Rochester it's self is lovely would like to explore more .
The fact that the toilet was down another corridor though it was private . The shower In the room I wouldn't even wash my dog in if I had one. No I formation about breakfast. Was not aware of any staff apart from the lady on the reception on entry and leaving the following morning. Signs of redecorating were up as they were when my daughter stayed several months earlier in the exact same room and she had described it exactly as it was when I arrived. No signs of decorating going on. Will not go again.
I wish we had known when booking that our suite of rooms was locted above the hotel nightclub. We got off to sleep at 1.30am on saturday night. Now I knowm why our room was so cheap. There was also no breakfast provided.I Wish we had stayed elsewhere.
Clean sheets and towels
No food was available due to "renovations". The information wasn't offered, only on enquiry about dinner and breakfast and then told that there were cafés and restaurants along the street. Our double en-suite room was dirty, cobwebs everywhere, threadbare carpet, filthy curtains, peeling wallpaper, old and extremely uncomfortable bed, ancient TV that only had one channel on and the bathroom was absolutely disgusting, with black mould and gunge in the shower and the toilet was stained beyond belief. The only good thing was clean sheets and towels.
The room was lovely
We had a blocked toilet and was then told to use outside toilet which had no toilet roll and smelt awful
The view and location from one of the back rooms was fantastic.great for a one night stay .or a weekend sightseeing.:-)
The hotel its self was very shabby especially the reception area and entrance .
