We enjoyed our stay with the royal all the staff were very helpful at all times
Location is brilliant, hotel old fashioned but comfortable. Didn't have breakfast so can't rate that. Apart from slightly off reaction when I arrived early, staff were helpful and polite.
I arrived at midday and got the "you want to check in now, are you kidding" look from both members of staff on reception. As someone who has worked in hotels and indeed run one for several years, I found that reaction irritating. Note to staff - please don't do that!
The bedroom was lovely and comfy, excellent view of the abbey.
The breakfast was very disappointing, my girlfriends was cold and and sent it back to the kitchen, only for it to be warmed up in the microwave.
Breakfast would not fill a mouse
The staff were excellent and couldn't do enough for us, especially the chap at the check-in desk. Views were sensational and the hotel as a whole was excellent. we enjoyed everything about this hotel and will certainly stay again
The location of the Royal is superb just by the wale bone on top of west cliff overlooking the sea, perfect views from our room. Comfortable rooms with tea/coffee making facilities. Hotel bit dated but all part of the charm, clean and staff friendly. Booked the restaurant for ourselves and couple of friends who were joining us for a three course meal which was very reasonably priced and very nice, the service was superb and didn't have to wait for table to be cleared or next course, would deffo recommend this! Plenty of entertainment going on at the hotel, bingo, singers, comedian if you don't want to venture out. The weather was sunny but cold on our journey and so we took a walk into the centre which was all lit up with Christmas lights and visited couple of lovely bars along the front including the Harbour and a piano bar where we sat outside under the heaters and throws supplied and took in the views in the night of Whitby whilst the piano and the abbey bells rang out in the background. very pleasant stay in Whitby.
Couldn't fault it !
The view and staff very friendly help you out as well defo will be coming back again
Location Bedroom with view of harbour Reception Manager - he and his team were most informative and helpful Entertainment on a Friday night Real ale being served in bar Lots of space to relax Ddin't have breakfast so have no comment
I am thinking..... I am thinking..... I am thinking..... Ah yes - square sheets of toilet paper - don't remember using these since school days, and that wasn't yesterday!
Clean room - Sea view - good value for money
Our room was situated across form the lift and every time it was used the outer door banged loudly. The bedroom door did not fit very well and lit the bedroom up. I realise that the hotel is going through a refurbishment so I should hope these things will be rectified and the room brought up to date even so it was comfortable and clean,
the view was stunning bed was comfortable and staff were very polite
public bar closed early and the lounge bar had entertainment that was very average which showed by being nearly empty
Location is excellent. Good value for money and plenty of facilities
Hotel a bit tired looking. Breakfast no better than average. Bar closed at 11pm.
Room was nice and big, clean and with a lovely view overlooking the sea. Bed was very comfy so slept well. Staff were all very pleasant and helpful. Lift worked.
Shower was only cold or so hot it would scald you, complained to reception who came up and couldn't make shower work either, said she would report it. We stayed for 3 days and shower not fixed. Breakfast was totally inadequate for the price we paid, served on small plates so it looked more, and it was barely warm. Asked where the yoghurt and fresh fruit was and was told we had to ask for it. So we did, and got one banana one orange and a yoghurt which when opened had mould growing on it. Entertainment was rubbish, over 250 people in hotel and about 30 in ballroom for entertainment. The quiz was won by the same people as the night previous, because the questions were the same. Wifi only in public area not in rooms, so when we werein the lounge on our ipads we got disapproving looks from the other residents, some of which moved away moaning, we are both in our sixties and were skypeing family.
- Cheap and cheerful - Friendly staff - Great views - Nice breakfast but portions a bit small
- Steep walk up the hill to the hotel - Bed too short for 6ft plus sleepers - Mattress not comfortable - A few cobwebs around - Small car parking facility
Location of room -sea view. Staff helpful
Bathroom needs updating
parking and excellant location view from the room
No WI-FI no walk in shower bathroom door did not shut
Comfortable bed Good staff
Small room, slightly shabby.
room very comfortable and clean staff were helpful although waiters in breakfast room were pushed having to many tables to look after did there best
full english consisted of 1 bacon 1small sausage desert spoon of beans hash brown and a sorry looking half small tomato served on a tea plate it has got to be the worst i have ever been put in front of me for what you are charged to stay there ! to say we were dissapointed is an understatment
Bed comfortable, breakfast service quick.
No parking available - had to use pay and display for 3 days! Breakfast finished too early. Bath/shower old fashioned and hard to use - flooded bathroom.
room ok good view
just like all other bay hotels very tired need a bit of tlc
the location was superb
being treated like a pauper and being asked to pay even before the receptionist said good evening.not being told anything about the facilities or the amenities, this was my special birthday weekend and i had decide to stay on friday in whitby before mgoing to the raithwaite ,it was such a disappoinment
The position was wonderful, beautiful views over the sea and harbour. Nice room overlooking the sea, comfortable beds, breakfast adequate. Pleasant public rooms, good entertainment, friendly staff.
Windows in bedrooms need double glazing, the draft through the window blew the curtains, it was quite cold. The downstairs public toilet was a disgrace for such a large hotel, tiny pokey hole with the toilet seat down on the floor at side of the toilet. Food could have been warmer. One lift for 3 people for the whole hotel. Scrap the plastic flowers, if you can't be bothered with a couple of well planted window boxes.
Where the hotel was situated.the stafff were helpful
Position style views
Curt receptionist, unable to help with offer of early breakfast when subsequently it became clear that this was being offered to many other guests. Lift service inadequate. Waitreses unhelpful
location bar was ok food average
attitude of some staff
Position. Well organised dining room.
Internet connection ordinary. Lift tiny - how do you manage with it.
