Score from 112 reviews Good
The food was brilliant and the staff were wonderfully helpful. Nothing was too much trouble.
The only thing we can say is that the rooms seemed very 'tired' and could do with updating.
Dinner & Breakfast excellent!!!!
The bed was very uncomfortable & creaked every time you moved!!!!
location, dated but comfortable
touching shower curtain, bright lights outside balcony didn't get turned off until 11pm
Good facilities rather dated
Excellent locationwith sea views
Breakfast and evening meals were lovely and service was fantastic from staff Swimming pool ideal for children and ideal area to stay in with lovely views
could hear people in other rooms and walking about late at night.
car parking as disabled
facilities were excellant and very helpful staff.
needs redecorating on outside as not very appealing and new showers.
Location was fine view from dining room was lovely
The bed very uncomfortable
had to put mattress on floor bed was really uncomfortable. shower did not work. walls to thin could hear next doors conversation and snoring all night. television only had four channels. paid for sea view and got hills.
This place hasn't been decorated since it was built..........
A friendly welcome. Room dated, as is the hotel as a whole, but comfortable enough for a night or two. Evening meal was good and fairly priced. However, only served 6.30 - 7.30, limited choice (no a la carte) and buffet-style. Cask ale (Tribute) in very good nick!
Not so much didn't like, but could be improved. Ancient tv - only the basic five channels, plus BBC 24-hr news. Wifi only available in public areas (however, if you have access to BT Openzone it's a hotspot, so was able to connect in room) Stained, through age, but clean bath and basin. Water temperature very difficult to regulate. (These, for me, were minor issues and I would certainly stay again if in the area.)
spacious, quiet and clean, staff friendly
Room a little cold, bed squeaky when u get in.
Hotel staff were excellent and very friendly. The breakfast was brilliant 5 Gold Stars!
The rooms were alittle tatty and worn! But saying that they were spotlessly clean and lovely and warm!
all you can eat breakfast but could do with hot milk for the coffee good views from the balcony large spacious room pleasant staff
i found the bed extremely hard but was ok for the mrs heating went off too early for the time of year so by 10.30pm it would of probably been warmer in a fridge although the staff gave us a heater that didn't work and an extra duvet
The pool, warm and old fashioned, to be able to stay in a 60's old style hotel. Breakfast on the first morning very good, very poor o the second, less to choose from. the lounge very peaceful.
unable to us the pool whenever we wanted to as there were children s classes for much of the time. Thin walls - could hear our neighbors. Poor second day breakfast, waiter not as attentive, poor choice on the cereals, fruit, no yoghurts as was on first day.
The staff were excellent, always ready to help. Brilliant location, short walk to the village and beach. Stunning views from terrace.
This hotel is enormous, in a beautiful location, plenty of space within communal areas. The parking is ample and quite convenient for lugging bags. Clearly someone put a lot of thought into catering for disabled guests. It must have been quite a glamorous place in the 1970s/80s. These days it's still nice and clean, but quite dated.
Restaurant is a buffet affair, and asides from representing a huge amount of food waste, cold toast, and longish queues, it seemed a strange thing to do for dinner time. There were plenty of staff to support table service, and for the elder guests walking with a frame and a tray of dinner wasn't ideal.
value for money comfortable bed
the lack of information on arrival ie free wifi, what the hotel had to offer.times for breakfast evening meal was just given key and told where the room was
Large restaurant , bar with dance floor, escourted seating in restaurant, easy parking and hotel position.lounge seating areas ,ill be back soon ,barnstable, ilfracombe, morthoe , woolacombe all with easy reach by car or bus 10 mins easy , local walks many. . . Hill or beach. . . Take your choice
Decor a bit tired here and there but not worth a song and dance about. . . .
Facility's were good staff were helpful good was great
Wifi was not accessible requested ground floor was have very small children but were but on top floor with stairs access from car park was poor
Love the price, the staff cant do enough to accommodate you, we were able to check in at 10 am. Great to come back to a swim in the pool
Woken up early by neighbours as walls are so thin and floorboards creak so bad, massively needs a refurb but for £30 a night you cant expect much
Cheap accommodation.. large room.. free snooker table
The hotel needs modernising throughout.. Expensive beer. Didn't enjoy dinner
Great location, very friendly staff, good food- what more could you want
With mixed reviews we had no expectations, but wow were were pleased! It was like going to visit Grandma at the seaside in a house that had rooms everywhere! A big bar for entertainment and pool, a lounge with comfortable couches and million dollar views, a quiet computer room, an indoor swimming pool, a restaurant and so it goes on. The staff are all friendly, accommodating and cheerful. It might be a two star hotel, but I would recommend it to anyone who wants comfort, individuality and a home from home. Staying in a 4 or 5* is ok but you could be anywhere in the world as they are all the same. This hotel was built in 1906 and extended in the 1950's and is a real trip back to the seaside we remember as children! Loved it and will be going back for a relaxing few days again soon!
What is there to dislike about this grand old hotel? Nothing.
the staff and the food was very good.
the part of the hotel we were in needed updating. you could hear the people in the next rooms and the people above sounded like they were coming through the floor as very noisy.
