Spacious room in main hotel with comfortable beds. Nicely decorated in historical style with its connections to Jane Austen. Central location. Super friendly staff. Good full English breakfast.

No elevator, though staff offered to carry bags. Limited parking, though staff helped to accommodate. On a busy street with a lot of traffic. Bakewell closes down at 5 PM.

The staff were helpful and friendly seemed to be doing their best.

The quality of the fittings in the room/ bathroom was not 4*. The resturant breakfast was poor and we had to wait a very long time for it the waiting on staff were good but ther was obviously a problem in the kitchen

We liked the position of the hotel, smack in the middle of Bakewell, which was really good. Breakfast was lovely each morning, and staff in hotel were very nice too, drinks in the bar where fairly priced for a hotel, nice bar area, overlooking the main street in Bakewell. We had the most lovely weather, and did 2 walks while we where there, we parked our car on the Saturday, and didn't use it again, until we left to come home.

We didn't feel very impressed with our room, we where in the courtyard area of the hotel, which was across the road from the main building. Room was just as you would find in a Travelodge, Premier Inn, etc. But we paid rather a lot for this room, I know it was a late booking, and that it was a Bank Holiday, we had a lovely time, but no way was the room worth the £125 per night we paid, despite it being in the centre of Bakewell.

The staff were genuine and very friendly. A rarity these days. The food was also very good. The location of the hotel was excellent. Reception staff put an ironing board in the room as i requested which I found impressive.

A lot of things - When I checked in I was advised that I was in the courtyard across the busy road, not the hotel itself. I chose the hotel because of the history, so not to stay in it was very disappointing. Would have been nice to know this before I arrived. The toilet in the room did not flush. The room was very small. The bathroom had no area for toiletries. The distance from the hotel made the place seem unsecure. The locals drive crazy at night, making the trip from the reception to the room potentially lethal. Glad I had no kids with me. The gap in my window letting in fresh air made me thankful I arrived in summer.. The car parking was disorganised, I got blocked in my a member of hotel staff. The shower water pressure was very bad The hotel mattress was very soft and springy Breakfast service on May 5th was very slow, it was great May 4th. If I had of paid £70 a night , I would have said fair enough but to pay £240 for two nights, I wished I had gone to the Premier Inn....... (or camped) To stay in what was once cleary stable building was quirky and I do like that, pity then that the rooms and corridors were run down rather than quirky and historic. The hotel could take a leaf out of the antique store in the same courtyard. As a fan of Jane Austen and obviously the hotel likes to use this as a USP, I feel let down that I have to contend with staying in the same premises as her horse and carriage rather than the lady herself.....

Breakfast was fair to good.

Damp and cold room. Found silverfish in the carpet. Poor car park.

The staff were friendly and helpful. The room we were moved to was excellent.

The room we were originally given was a large single perhaps and had no storage space so we were living out of our suitcase until we moved to a better room. Not sure why you would allocate a room with no storage space for a 4 night 5 day stay?

Friendly Staff

Very Small Room with the most basic of fittings. The road Noise. Decoration looking tired.

The location was ideal, and easy to find - handy for the market and town

Despite asking for shower gel, which had been used by a previous guest and not replaced, I had to do without, as the reception forgot to replenish it.

bedroom and bathroom were small, bedroom very warm, had to turn rads off and keep window open which meant a lot of noise from the traffic. parking is difficult at times, but their is nothing that can be done to rectify that.

The Hotel's base in Bakewell was excellant and was central to so many places that we wished to visit. My wife has difficulty climbing stairs and we were allocated room 2 on the first floor and the room was spacious and offered prime views of the town. The bar meals were very good indeed.

The car parking facilities were very poor for a hotel of this standard and we thought carefully before using our car if we had obtained a car parking place. Service at breakfast time needs much improvement and the continental breakfast was non-existant some mornings.

Hotel was great, staff were very helpful, overall great value for money.

To hot central heating was on high all the time! Breakfast was OK, but quality of bread and tea/coffer was poor.

Good location and clean bed linen and towels were changed daily.

Location. Public bar and reception was quite stylish. Pity the rest of the place didn't live up to the facade.

The bedoom was shabby, with dated decor. It was so narrow that we had just a few inches between the end of the bed and the wall making it very hard to get around. The shower only dribbled water and the drain still backed up - when we mentioned this at reception they just said they'd look into it - no apology or offer of a discount on a very expensive room for what we got. The only reason we didn't complain was not wanting to upset our friend who had chosen the hotel. My breakfast order didn't arrive at the same time as others who'd ordered at the same time. After waiting over 10 minutes, I had to chase it up with the staff. Having asked for well done bacon, it was - on one side - the others ide being barely cooked. The group evening meal was bland and tasteless, with little attempt at stylish presentation - a Bakewell Tart with just a lump of ice cream on the side...really, in this day and age?!. A huge disappointment for the price we paid. This is the first time I've ever reviewed accomodation which gives you an idea how vexed I was by this experience.

Location - right in middle of Bakewell. Handy for walks, tea shops and other Peak District attractions.

Parking. Didn't like the idea of double parking and leaving key with reception.

Annex dated, ceiling light out and bathroom radiator not working. Valve wheel mising so unable to turn on.

Staff were friendly & helpful & the breakfast was good.

Had the pokiest room ever, with frosted glass window overlooking a very dingy courtyard. Bathroom window was too high to open, no extractor fan, had to put toiletries on the floor & the shower dribbled through. Dinner was ok but glad we hadn't paid the full price (had a Travelzoo voucher), prices in restaurant were 4* prices for a less than 3* star hotel.

Good location and no need to drive to walking trails. Good bar area.

Rooms were small and across the road from hotel. Bed was uncomfortable as I could feel the mattress buttons digging into my leg and the plastic under sheet made the bed hot. Bed too soft so I woke with backache each morning. One of our party had a dry Seabass evening meal and another tried relentlessly to order haddock for breakfast and was told at 8.45 that he was either too late or too early for success in this mission! Surely all on the menu should be available.!

We considered our bedroom poor value for money (Room32) The casters missing from bed legs making it uneven, however we found wooden blocks under bed to prop it up which my husband put in place! Also room not very clean, we found grape stalks on floor, and phone case near bed which did not belong to us! The previous night we stayed in Market Harborough Leics in The Three Swans Hotel, and although the room was a little dated it was three times bigger including the bathroom spotlessly clean, and £53 cheaper per night.

Great service from reception desk and help with awkward customer parking (Jennifer), alsohelpful with recommendations for places to eat. Good quality breakfast. Bar and lounge area felt recently redecorated. Rooms simple clean and functional, good shower, very quiet hotel. Good central location in Bakewell

Parking - no spaces in customer car park until member of staff kindly made room for us. Bar a bit lacking in atmoisphere and quiet - music would help. Closed at 11pm on the dot on Friday and Saturday. No decaf coffee or tea with breakfast.
