Le pudding de Bakewell a vu le jour suite à une erreur du cuisinier de l'hôtel Rutland Arms. Un client avait commandé une tarte aux fraises, mais au lieu d'incorporer le mélange d'œufs à la pâte, le cuisinier le versa sur la confiture de fraises. Le client a tellement apprécié ce dessert que la recette est devenue populaire. C'est ainsi que ce dessert fut appelé Bakewell Pudding. Aujourd'hui encore les ingrédients et la recette sont très bien gardés.
Le Rutland Arms est ouvert aux personnes extérieures à l'hôtel. Il vous propose le café du matin, le déjeuner, le goûter et le dîner tant dans la brasserie que dans le restaurant Four Season.
L'établissement peut prendre en compte vos régimes alimentaires particuliers et vous garantit que les menus du jour sont notamment composés d'une large sélection variée.
Les lieux d'intérêt locaux comprennent notamment le domaine de Haddon Hall et le château Chatsworth House.
Haddon Hall est l'un des plus beaux édifices du Moyen-Âge restant en Angleterre. Il surplombe la rivière Wye. Il s'agit du lieu de résidence de Lord Edward Manners, propriété de sa famille depuis plus de 800 ans. Beauté du site et héritage historique se mêlent pour faire de votre visite un moment enrichissant et inoubliable.
Ne manquez pas non plus, lors de votre séjour dans le Derbyshire, de vous rendre au Chatsworth House, où vivent le Duc et la Duchesse de Devonshire. C'est l'un des sites les plus attractifs de Grande-Bretagne, car il abrite l'une des collections d'art privées les plus raffinées d'Europe et constitue le lieu de résidence de cette famille d'aristocrates depuis 450 ans. C'est à Chatsworth qu'a été tourné l'adaptation du roman "Orgueil et Préjugés" de Jane Austen avec l'actrice Keira Knightley. Avec tant à voir, le château est un site incontournable.

The location was great and the hotel was very relaxing Our room being over the road in the 'annex'. was a bit of a muck about having to put your coat on in the morning to go for breakfast and having to carry our milk jug across the junction |

We had absolutely not expected to be served with Michelin Star quality food at these prices - their young chef is fantastic and all the food - even the bar meals and breakfasts were excellent. The hotel is quirky due to the owner (a massive collections of antique wall clocks all chiming) but very conscious of the guest's comfort. We were amazed at the quality for the ridiculously low prices. The parking could be a bit tight - but the reception staff were adept at moving cars that may have blocked someone in. But no dislikes at all. |

History of Hotel & location, the decor and style of the open areas of the main hotel building. The clocks and the breakfast. Cleanliness of room could have been better. The TV and alarm clock were old fashioned. The gourmet evening meal did not live up the expecations or price. BBEM at top end of price range for overall experience. |

Breakfast was good! Staff helpfull and if you are into old clocks its a must in the main part of the hotel. Good value. Parking fine and a big bonus in Bakewell! Bit close to main road during the day but fine at night as traffic very little during the evening / night. |

Hotel is in a perfect location in the town and well places to travel easily to local places of interest. Lovely bathroom, comfortable, clean beds. Unattractive bedroom furniture, not enough storage space, very few coathangers were provided. |

We liked the Character of the hotel, its hospitality, location, and the food in the restaurant was outstanding. The restaurant was elegant, low key, and wonderfuly decorated with a collection of old clocks all of which chimed (quietly). The service was attentive, while also low key. And the food - we had a main course and cheese - just about right, although we both want to try a starter now !! And for breakfast, perfect kippers, and my wife had THE best old-fashioned haddock and poached egg she has had. Definitely returning when we go to Chatsworth. While the room in which we stayed was perfectly fine, and I guess we could have found it out on the internet, the room was in the hotel's old stable block "over the road" from the main hotel. It was £20 per room cheaper than staying in the hotel itself, but would probably have been worth it. |

The staff could not have been more helpful. The hotel is a good, old-fashioned (without the negatives associated with that word) hotel; comfortable, calm, discreet and well positioned for the town and the peak district. My wife liked the vegitarian option in the retaurant, but I found the venison ridiculously nouvelle cuisine; tiny lump of meat in pond water surrounded by heavily abused vegetables...... (I should add that again the staff were extremely accomodating to our 17 month old son!) |
