The Salisbury Hotel43-45 Salisbury Road, Newington, EH16 5AA Edinburgh (Show map) Very good, Score from 312 reviews“Very helpful staff, although not having a working radiator in the room was a hassle but the staff did what they could to accommodate alternative heating. A great hotel for a city break, good restaurant and breakfast facilities.”
Danny,

A fairly quite location considering how busy Edinburgh is. Room that we had was very small as was the shower room, just enough space to get in and out of the shower without knocking your legs on the loo. Continental breakfast that was in with the cost of the room not very inspiring, but the breakfast that you could buy was very reasonably priced considering the cost of everything else.

Hotel staff friendly and helpful. The hotel had free parking. Superior room was small and basic with very poorly designed wetroom / bathroom. Overpriced for what was on offer.

The location is good, it was lovely and quiet, the gardens are excellent and Cafe Cassis is a huge asset - if you can find it from the reception area. The continental breakfast was excellent and the waiting staff first class. We felt it was far more like a bed and breakfast than “First Choice for a Luxury Hotel in Edinburgh” and was considerably overpriced. While the bedding and towels were clean the room was not. The picture rail was visibly coated in dust as were the skirting boards. The settee immediately outside our door was stained. We were in a "superior" double and it would have been better described as "average." The bathroom was impractically small, the toilet seat did not fit properly and in spite of considerable effort to avoid it happening the bathroom floor was soaked on each occasion we showered. The television only had two channels and the radio alarm went off at 7.30am - uninvited. It might be an idea for houskeeping staff to switch it off daily. Cafe Cassis, which is attached to the hotel but independently run - and a great asset - is not properly signposted from within the hotel and is tricky to find. The hotel fell far short of "first choice for a luxury hotel in Edinburgh" which it will never be if it doesn't get the basics right. It was average accommodation at a luxury price.

The location was convenient to restaurants, buslines and even walking to downtown. Room and bathroom were very small, bed was uncomfortable because of matress springs. Shower water temperature was highly variable. Cold breakfast choices were limited. This hotel was represented as a four star property. We thought it deserved 2 1/2 stars.

The hotel was very clean and the service was unintrusive. The location is very good as it is close to the centre of the city. 1. The rooms are quite small and the wardrobe is not big enough to put clothes in taken the ironing board and other utensils are stored there.2.We had to move rooms due to plumbing problems in the booked room. 3.The hotel is not staffed at the reception desk overnight which caused problems of checking in for some new arrivals. 4.The chef at the bistro serving breakfast is not in on Sunday, so cooked breakfast offered as an option might not be to the proper standards.

Quiet location, close to main bus route into the city Not the 4* boutique experience in a 'Superior Room' we expected ! The Bistro is closed but apparently reopening under new management in the near future, a strange set-up for a hotel facility ? If you are driving yourself to the Hotel it is not the easiest to find as it is on a one way street with very little in the way of signage

This was a return stay at the Salisbury, where guests are made to feel very welcome. The hotel's decor, size and quiet location offer a country house feel in a major city.

A great location in a very "cool" part of the city...so many interesting shops, cafes and bars. The hotel was stylish and in keeping with its heritage...the views to the mountains was super. Nice hospitality in the rooms, Tunnocks tea cakes and hot chocolate, Very friendly reception on arrival. Good continental breakfast in the morning. The bathroom was stylish but the grouting is starting to look a bit grotty. The double quilt was really heavy...I Feel sorry for the chamber maid who has to change the covers on it every day! Lovely big steps up to the entrance of the hotel, with large plant pots...lovely until you look onto the pots...they were filled with cigarette stubs...disgusting!

Very friendly and welcoming, very convenient for where we wanted to be (near family), big comfortable room (we were given a free upgrade), warm and cosy all the same. Very quiet - especially surprising just off Newington Road. Breakfast fine - included genuinely fresh fruit. The bathroom fixtures needed a bit of attention (loo roll holder fallen off?), the door handle was a puzzle and there was only one full-sized towel between the two of us. The double bed was one of those ones made up of two connected singles and so there was a harder lump down the middle of the bed. The breakfast croissants were truly terrible - if that's the best available, much better to offer some other kind of roll or pastry. Nothing that should seriously put anyone off, though.

The room was an excellent size. The furnishings were very luxurious. The facilities in the room were to a good standard. The reception staff were knowledgeable and courteous. The toilet seat was broken. A picture in the bathroom had smashed glass. Some of the breakfast staff did not understand English, did not show us to our table or offer us a menu.

Quietness & location to city centre. ( It can be walked) Off road parking facilities was a bonus. Just metres from public transport route into city. Hotel requires a more prominent hotel signage.

Staff were really helpful, rooms excellent. Just far enough out of the city centre to relax, but easy access by bus, taxi, (around £6 fare) when you wanted to get to see the sights. Local resturaunts were value for money with Hellors Kitchen being fabulous food and godd atmosphere, 5 minute walk.

Very freidnly staff. Lovely ensuite. Doesnt obviously display it as a hotel from teh outside. We couldnt find it initially because all of the external advertising is the for the French Style restaraunt which their dining area turns into at certain times.

The room was absolutely stunning. The staff were helpful, polite, very nice to deal with. Breakfast was also delicious. The only thing I can think of is that the check out was a bit early for us, as we like to lie in. But was standard compared with other hotels - we're just lazy!

Good location, free parking, friendly staff, nice clean room though a bit cold because of the french windows. Service could have been better at breakfast E.G. no table had been allocated, had to ask for glasses, water. Family room a bit cramped for space with the bed settee down and bed settee mattress not very comfortable.
