A relaxing Elizabethan Manor House which maintains its character and architectural features, with a great oak door giving access to the reception.

Location and food were fantastic. Ask for room 11 (seperate accommodation) block for very large room
Stayed overnight after a very good meal with friends. Room was tastefully modernised with lovely bathroom. Breakfast was excellent, one of the best we've had!
Came here for an anniversary break - couldn't have chosen better. The location by the river Wye and the Yat rock is one of the most beautiful places on earth, the ancient inn so full of character, the food superb. And the staff - all of them - were absolutely marvellous; they did everything possible to make this a thoroughly enjoyable and memorable break, even giving us a complimetary bottle of winne on our departure
This is in a lovely sitting on the banks of the river on the edge of the Forest of Dean with lots of potential for walking, canoeing, cycling etc or just a long relaxing break in the gorge like countryside. Although the original building exterior is ancient the interior is completely modernized and comfortable, well up the description on the website. Food is excellent, beer is better etc but what made it for us was the friendly, helpful attitude of the owner and staff – made us feel welcome and wanting to return.
Having to leave!
Location; staff; room.
The evening meal was a little less 'haute cuisine' than we had enjoyed at the hotel in previous years. Not sure how the plating up of the chicken dish would have fared on Celebrity Masterchef. But this is a minor detail. We would certainly recommend and return!
amazing location, great lunch, great breakfast, helpful staff.
I stayed in a room next to the main building. It was right in front of the car park and small road to further hotels. Although I think the windows are double glazed the door was not and rattled every time someone slammed a door just outside in the car park!! Could also clearly hear every car and motor bike driving past. A pity as everything else was excellent.
Breakfast was lovely.
the food eat in for evening meal the breakfast was one of the best I have ever had
nothing, everything was exelent
Very helpful as I had just broken my wrist. could not have been more helpful when I tripped and cut myself. Excellent breakfast choice too.
brilliant place to stay with beautiful scenery - damn fine food - very friendly staff - would thoroughly recommend this hotel
the fact they were so busy they could only fit us in the one night - on arriving tried to book the week - most disappointing that
Automatic table reservation for evening dining for guests. Free parking in pay and display car park. Strong wifi throughout.
No a/c in room. Shower pressure weak. Wouldn't stop us returning though.
Being up-graded on our arrival was a real bonus! The room and views were tremendous. The food was of a high standard and thoroughly enjoyed.
Staff , service and food
Used for a business trip, but would love to stay again with wife and family, they would love the location.
The location, friendly staff, nice and relaxed place
lovely place to stay the room although small was well equiped comfortable and very clean with a wonderful bathroom, the food was fantastic we had lunch dinner and breakfast and couldnt fault anything, the staff were very helpful and friendly.
Warm friendly atmosphere with excellent staff, great location in idyllic surroundings. Food and drink are plentiful and 5* quality. Cant fault this place...ever
No phone signal? is that a negative?
The food and the service was fantastic, they definatly go the extra mile
The location was lovely with lots to do nearby. The staff were very friendly and efficient. The food was excellent, and the rooms were comfortable.
The only small thing I didn't like, was that after our evening meal we wanted to have a drink and relax in the bar. Unfortunately, the seating in the bar is largely wooden benches and pues, and neither of us found it very comfortable, so we retreated to our room after a short time. Some nice cosy chairs would have been lovely.
Great place to stay in an idyllic location next to River Wye. Food and dink all sourced locally are both fantastic in particular the breakfast. Stay every month and just gets better
Friendly and welcoming staff. Excellent food. Smashing place!
Perfect place for a relax by the river !
Only stayed one night but wish it had been longer. Fabulous location for a short break. Wonderful food: breakfast was amazing. Staff very friendly and helpful.
No faults or complaints whatsoever.
The breakfast was wonderful, and a beautiful view over the river from the breakfast room. The staff were extremely helpful, even lending us an OS map for a long walk. An absolutely stunning location, clean and comfortable room and facilities.
It would be good to have a slightly cosier lounge area downstairs with sofas etc.
