The staff were very pleasant and the location is excellent. The food is of a good quality, as are the decor and facilities. The dining experience was tainted somewhat by a particularly noisy party in the dining area. Whilst I understand there will be noise at such an event, the persistent and seemingly neverending blasts of party kazoos was galling after a while. The staff seemed equally frustrated, but did well to hide it from those causing the noise. I was also slightly annoyed by a young lady asking us through our bedroom door in the morning 'have you used your mini bar?' It was quite abrupt and not really what you would expect from a hotel of your reputation. Minor issues, but these sort of things will deter those guests who are used to a high quality of hotel.

My self and my family have lived within ten miles of the hotel for many years, and it does have a very good reputation. So being christmas we thought we would spoil ourselves. It lived up to everything we had heard about it. In fact we are going to do it again. A final thought on the christmas decorations wonderful,

Proximity to beach. Food Social grading according to room class, akin to cruise liners. "Cheap" Internet booking yielded a room unfit to house pets let alone humans, and prescribed dining table almost in the kitchens, when tables with sea views were vacant. Led to overall impression of being treated like a 3rd class citizen.

We booked a room with a seaview and we were not disappointed. We loved the fantastic panorama over the sea and the vast, sandy beach which stretched for more than two miles southwards towards the estuary of the River Taw. The dining room also looked out over the sea and was light and spacious. The public spaces were well appointed and full of attractive paintings and old photographs. Although the hotel had a slightly old-fashioned feel with lots of staff on duty to assist guests, many of whom were probably not used to such attentive service , we felt ever so slightly privileged to be staying at a hotel which has been offering its guests the opportunity to enjoy a great British seaside holiday since the time they first became popular in Victorian times.

Car parking was less than satisfactory. Due to my late arrival I had to park in an unmarked area with 4 other vihicles. regrettably some one must have backed into my car causing minor damage to the front side panel and indicator light unit. Since you display large notices about parking at ones own risk, it was not worth my effort to report the incident that i had not witnessed.

I enjoyed my stay at Saunton Sands very much, the staff were extremely helpful and polite, nothing was too much trouble. The rooms were well furnished and comfortable. The extras were good E.g 2 swimming pools, shop etc.Food was O.K. Breakfast good choice a well stocked buffet. The Situation of the Hotel was absolutely lovely overlooking one of the best beaches. Super for children , surfing and walking. I was not over the moon about Dinner (Table D'Hote menu).seemed a bit airy fairy to me.However not really anything bad. Just my opinion .

Very comfortable and fabulous position The staff were largely off hand, especially in the dining area. They seemed to want us out. Despite the fact that we were told that they had won a cooking rosette we thought the food was beautiful but disappointing. We stayed here a few years ago and the portions were good, now you have trouble seeing them on your plate beyond the decoration. On the other hand the breakfast is very good and traditional

Staff are friendly and pride their work but I was no allowed to dine in the restaurant as I had trainers on. Great for families and the elderly but not for business travellers or back packers. For some reason the hotel is so hot! Comfortable room but I didn't get a good nights sleep as it was so hot. I stayed in November and had 2windows open and still found an apparent waist of energy bills. Felt a little like a retirement home.

The location is perfect, overlooking a surfing beach (I'm a surfer!), with a nice lawn, pool etc (this alone may entice me back). The younger staff were very helpful and understanding. When I went to bed, I found what looked like a mouse dropping hidden in a fold in my bed sheet (from the laundry company), but the staff were very helpful, offering me a new room, and as I couldn't be bothered to move all my stuff, they helped me change to a new sheet. The room service chips were great, as was the dessert! The hotel is obviously set up to cater to the retirement crowd. They keep the temperature incredibly hot (uncomfortably so), and in my room I only had a sliding door to a shared balcony, not a window I could leave open, leading to a hot disturbed sleep. They also require shirt and tie for dinner. This is not an issue, apart from their policy of making you order room service from the restaurant bar. I did this in my jeans (the whole point of room service was to relax), and was made to feel very unwelcome by the snooty staff. I ordered a burger, which was presented very well, but (in my opinion) tasted and looked like a factory made frozen burger - very disappointing for 13 pounds (and felt bad for the chef making the best of a cheap purchasing decision). Finally on checking out, I found that I had to pay an extra 5 pounds to have a meal in my room? Not mentioned at ordering. The room was pleasant and clean, but I found hairs around the sink (and in my food). All in all, I felt it suffered from a lack of attention to detail, and not worth the money.

Pleasant and relaxed atmosphere. Good facilities. Rooms were of a good standard. Tv in the internet room to watch the rugby world as a group worked well. The temperature in the hotel in general was too hot. It was uncomfortably too hot for breakfast in the dining room. Had to permanently open the bedroom windows.

Great location The room had a lovely view but the bed was a small double and felt ungenerous. The restaurant was very odd. The lights were bright. There were many staff but no-one to do what we wanted. A glass of wine took 15 minutes and involved 4 different people. There was a lot of walking backwards and forwards and loud clearing of plates in front of us at clearing stations. We were asked our room number at least 15 times but we didn't have one person looking after our table. The atmosphere was stuffy , it felt like a cross between an old fashioned works canteen and a prim aunts tea table. The insistence on a dress code felt ridiculous in the circumstances.
