Log burning fires, central heating, friendly atmosphere.Inn still retained character although it had been modernised and local residents no longer frequented it.
No dislikes.Would return
The warm welcome
The cups in the room were not clean! I had to clean them properly myself
50p on the ferry and you have bowness virtualy on the door step for shopping early evening entertainment then retreat back to cuckoo brow for a quiet evening meal and log fires
Would like to see more ordinary meals on the menu
I enjoyed the room facilities, I thought it was clean and a good size.
it was very noisey we were put on the ground floor and could hear doors opening and closing through the night then cars/delivery vans outside our window in the early hours. staff could be more welcoming and friendly. cleanliness in the bar area needs improving with staff stroking dogs and serving food, dogs urinating in the bar area etc...
The bed was wonderful, very comfortable with a mattress duvet for extra comfort. Everything was new. The food is very good if a little pricey. The staff are all helpful but appearance could be better, less scruffy.
A last minute booking, they allow dogs so we would normally have avoided the inn. The place would be cleaner, ie by not allowing dogs on the furniture. I expected a "dog" smell but I was wrong, there wasn't one.
Very good room with a comfortable bed. Lovely roll top bath. Dog friendly.Welcomed dogs in all areas although the lower 'snug' / 'stable' area was ideal for children and dogs. Very obliging staff.
Thought the Dinner menu could have had just a few more options.
we love the location and feel of the place. The meals are excellent.
Hotel was ideal for our little Scottie. He was welcome everywhere. Room was clean, food was excellent.
Staff were welcoming and friendly. There were plenty of parking spaces compared with some of the other hotels in the locality. The Inn was in a very convenient location for us to explore the southern lakes. The ferry being only ten minutes away was helpful. The room was warm and comfortable with a nice en suite. The breakfast was good with plenty of choice. We ate in the three evenings we were there and found the standard of food very good if a little pricey. Dogs were allowed in the bar/ dining area. That did not bother us and as those dogs we saw were well behaved. However this situation may not be everyone's liking. Nice log burner in bar added a good touch of warmth and comfort after a day walking. Would recommend this place to family and friends
Breakfast could be a little earlier to start, perhaps 8:00,but we appreciated there was the possibility to prebook an early breakfast if required
Positioned just over the lake from Windermere, the hotel is in a terrific location. Surrounded by superb walks, more than welcoming to dogs, good food, friendly staff, I have nothing but praise. We'll be back!
This old inn has been well restored. We were intrigued to see pet dogs in the dining room - they were very welcome apparently. There were walks we could access without having to get in the car each day.
Members of the staff were all very nice, the girls at breakfast smiley and very pleasant, the guys in the bar/at reception always helpful. Our room was clean, the bed linen was clean as well, crisp and fresh. The bathroom small with only a shower, but very nice and spotless. The shower was amazing! We took long hot showers after returning from our walks, and it was just amazing! The location is beautiful as well, very easy to approach by car from at least 3 different directions and the scenery beautiful. Overall a very very nice stay, in a friendly and unique hotel. We enjoyed our stay here, and we would like to return. Definitely recommended.
The bed was too soft for our liking, and we are not sure what the guests in the room above us were doing, but they were very loud & we could hear their steps, or when they pulled a drawer, banged a door, even at night or early morning. A bit annoying, soundproofing doesn't seem to be the best. At dinner, we booked a table for 8pm, however, it wasn't ready as the guests with a 6pm booking hadn't finished yet (to be fair we were pre-alerted that this might happen), so we were seated downstairs, not in the restaurant area. This could have been cosy but a family with young children came downstairs and started playing hide & seek and watching an american football match on a laptop, so our romantic dinner ended up not too romantic. When we finished and went upstairs to pay, we found that there were several empty tables, so i'm really not sure why we couldn't have been seated there. The food portion for a woman was perfect, not so much for a man... We also think the food is overpriced. It was tasty and nicely presented, but it didn't really have the wow-factor at all, and we do think it's too costly, mostly because my other half left hungry (even after finishing his full meal).
The hotel was even more dog friendly than we had been led to believe. We were even able to take her into the dining area (she is a very well behaved old dog who slept under the table whilst we ate. The location was excellent in a small but interesting village and several interesting off-road walks straight from the hotel. The enormous bed also got our vote of approval.
Whereas we appreciate that the bedrooms are necessarily small, there were no chairs in our room. This meant that there was no place to conveniently put our clothes at night and nowhere where we could sit and watch TV in the room.
food was excellent, and very dog friendly, and good walks. I would stay again. We had good time.
Relaxed atmosphere, local ales, good pub grub, comfortable room.
Would be a limited menu if you stayed a week & ate in each evening.
Great clean rooms with plenty of space. Tasty food served in the dining room and a great breakfast. Close to some local attractions and the staff were friendly.
It's a nice place, but it felt like it was just a tourist place, with no locals. The main bar isn't really like a country pub, it's just a dining room for people to come in, have their meal, then leave. As residents, we didn't feel there was anywhere cosy to go and sit before or after dinner, and to play games. Luckily it was pretty sunny during our stay, and so we sat outside until it got cold and then went for dinner, then to our room afterwards. The 'Stables' downstairs were very quiet, cold and a bit spooky, not very welcoming. Maybe they could do with spreading the dining tables out to the other rooms, throughout the pub, to allow for sofa's and casual seating in the main room. This might help with the lack of table availability at dinner too, and help create some atmosphere.

Nothing, great holiday!
Lovely location for this rustic pub.great food and ambience.good selection of Lakeland ales. Friendly helpful staff.we will return.
Room was clean, Food was excellent, good service,
Thought drinks were well over priced £4 pint, only down side to room pillows were hard need replacing.
Big bathroom, clean. Friendly staff. Comfy bed and great breakfast. Great value for money.
Evening dining menu very expensive, OK if dining out but if your looking for just a quick bite to eat then no.
The whole place was wonderful and it made our business trip very relaxing, food excellent.
Great place. Very relaxed atmosphere, excellent breakfast menu, good choice of local ales in the bar. Position of hotel is great for exploring the rest of the Lake District.
Friendly staff and lovely food.
Young staff who were very helpful and courteous!! The rooms were roomy and clean!! The reception area and seating were comfortable and cozy!! The bar was great and the food including breqakfast excellent!! The fact that dogs were allowed in this hotel made the weekend for us and the location is magical.
