The Screes Inn is located in the western valleys of Cumbria, a stones throw from Wastwater, England’s deepest lake. The Wasdale valley is also home to Scafell Pike, England’s highest mountain and Wasdale head, credited as being the birthplace of British rock climbing. The area lends itself perfectly to walking, climbing and cycling. This part of the Lake District national park has unrivalled scenery and is considered to be off the beaten tourist trail to some extent In addition to outdoor pursuits there are many other attractions within easy reach. These include n castle with its stunning grounds and bird of prey centre as well as the La ’al Ratty, the famous lake district narrow gauge railway that runs from Ravenglass to Eskdale. Our nearest village is Gosforth whilst further afield are the historic towns of Egremont, Whitehaven, Workington and Cockermouth, all distinctive with their own attractions For those that enjoy the beach you are spoiled for choice with several excellent beaches and costal walks on the door step. The most popular are Drigg, Seascale and St Bees, the start off the national coast to coast walk The inn itself provides a relaxing, informal environment wit
