The quality and presentation of the food dipped slightly during Saturday when the pub was busy, but was still good. Breakfast was served between 8.30 and 9.30, which is too late for people who want to set off early, and which led to a bottle-neck at 8.30 when it seemed everyone wanted to eat.
Excellent location, 2 miles from Wasdale lake (5 miles from Wasdale Head), set in a quiet village. A cosy, traditional yet trendy feel to the pub. Good food and a selection of about 6 frequently-changing real ales on the bar. Attentive staff (Josh) who was very professional as front-of-house. The room was comfortable, spacious and well-furnished in light oak. Comfortable, firm mattress, 4 pillows of varying thickness, and crisp white linen. Good food, and a good selection of it on the menu, which was reasonably-priced, and came in plentiful portions.
