The bathroom, bedroom, breakfast were all excellent. The book shelves, room décor and varnished floorboards gave great character to the property. Very clean and well presented.
Not having en suite bathroom facilities.
A Charming guest house with lots of character and very friendly staff. Ideally located for walking to beach and town centre.
Parking is a little problematic but most people seem to park on single yellow lines after 6pm and before 9am....except on Tuesdays.
Where do I start? This has to be one of the most charming and wonderful places I have every stayed at! From the outside you would never know the treasure that hides inside. The place is full of small rooms, corridors and wonderful corners full of books. A LOT of books. The whole place just invites you to grab a book, a mug of hot tea and sink into a chair in a corner and chill out. Thick carpets, spotlessly clean rooms, a lovely basket with tea and other assortments in every room, and even the shared but spotless bathroom made me feel like I was at home. But the real star of the place is the kind, smiley and charming hostess Marlena. She will do absolutelyt everything in her power to make sure you are comfortable and will go into the kitchen to make a cup of tea for you even very late at night with a big smile on her face! And as for the breakfast it needs to be seen to be believed. Heaps upon heaps of goodies, lovely jams, cheese, ham, and everything you could possibly need in a beautiful arrangement by Marlena herself. I can't believe she does all this work every single day but it just goes to show how much she prides her work! Definitely recommended when you are in Aber.
The hostel on the outside is completely invisible. It looks just like all the other houses on the street and it could use some revamp, a small patio or a bigger sign. The kitchen/patio area can get a bit cold at times when the temps drop. Having said that these are tiny things in a place that I could easily stay for a whole month or more!
I liked my stay short 1 night stay in many ways: the architecture of the house, the books and the small details, the cats visiting the small garden, the kindness of Marlena and Diana, the breakfast. I come from a Mediterranean country and after having spend some days in a big hotel for business reasons, I came here to enjoy one day staying on my own. This was the best a truly welcome in Wales.
Clean, comfortable + friendly + excellent value for money. Make sure you get the great value breakfast.
I liked: - the interesting selection of books, made available to guests, and the absence of a television. - the white walls, bare boards and junk furniture, all contributing to a kind of bohemian vibe. - the breakfast, of the full continental type, including cheese, ham and salami and smoked salmon. Also fresh fruit, warm croissants, etc. - Marlena, in charge of the house, who is just so nice, combining efficiency with warmth and charm. - the high quality tea and coffee (from the local specialist shop) provided in the room, along with a teapot, cafetière, bottled water, etc. - the shower -- worked well. - the plentiful linen. - the cleanliness of the bathroom and of the place as a whole.
I didn't like: - the mattress and pillows, cheap and fairly uncomfortable. - the minuscule proportions of my single room on the top floor. - having to sometimes wait to use the bathroom. The house has seven (?) rooms and only one bathroom (plus another room with toilet and washbasin), so queues are inevitable. But this and other limitations are obviously reflected in the price.
I stayed because I needed somewhere cheap for an overnight business trip. I may return for leisure as it's great location and great value, everything you need for a place to sleep.
Staff was very friendly and professional, breakfast and location excellent.
Bed was too wobbly and after long train journey you would want a bit harder mattress.
o the large and good tasting breakfast o the very funny und friendly staff o the central location (near the sea, but also only 5 minutes to the bus station or the railway station) o it was always clean ...the friendly staff made us feel so wonderfully at home !!! :)
the room and the bed were small
Nothing is too much trouble for Marleena, the house-manager, to sort out; she was always welcoming, cheerful, helpful. My room, though small, was simply furnished, extremely clean and beautifully presented with folded towels, products, and a range of organic/fairtrade teas and coffees. I would book again without hesitation and highly recommend.
I knew that the bathroom and toilet would be shared though having not experienced this for many years, it was occasionally difficult to use the facilities after other guests who didn't always 'leave them as found'.
Very pleased with the shelley. Very friendly people there and was very cosy. Good value for money in a reasonable area. Worth staying there
Located close to amenities and sea front..I have recommended the residence because my wants/needs maybe different to others.
Like a rabbit burrow. Initially was frightened of going to far in case i got lost!. 1 bathroom/2 toilets between 9 rooms?. top half of house un-carpeted so every step was resounding. could count and feel every spring in bed. The house needs a lot of TLC.
-Proximity to town, beach and train station -Friendly staff -Breakfast was decent enough for price- couldn't have got a decent coffee for same price outside- cereal, toast croissant brioche, fruit and cheeses and meats- (but didn't eat those as they were uncovered and flies were buzzing around) Nice refreshments in room- fresh organic coffee, sparkling water etc Wifi- free and good signal Was a place to sleep!
-Never going somewhere with a shared bathroom again- I should've known I'd not like it, but this confirmed it for me -Dingy part of town- wasn't very welcoming, I should've used google street view to figure out exactly where it was -Was all a bit grim really. Only stayed here as couldn't find anything else available on the dates I wanted without paying silly money.
Very friendly, helpful and flexible staff. Decor quite unique and quite unlike hotel chain "clones". Lovely location - not overlooking but quite close to the sea and several nice restaurants. Breakfast nice with lots of variety.
Staff did everything possible to facilitate us but structure (rather narrow stairs) just doesn't easily facilitate comfort for people of our age and infirmities (mid - fifties with arthritis). Also a bit too long in the tooth for a shared bathroom.
Sharing the bathroom
very helpful staff (just one) good continental breakfast (no hot breakfast provided)
room size large numbers sharing single bathroom rates jacked up when town busy
nice and helpful staff, very good breakfast, centrally located but quiet
Room was worth the money small and compact but that is what you pay for shared facilities but again worth the price
Handy, low-key location in a nice town. Great breakfasts! Friendly, easy-going vibe.
I loved the books and the room
The lay out of the room hadn't been thought through properly. One annoying thing was that the kettle had to be put on the floor to plug in and the bathroom and loo were too far from the room
Noisey at night, though this was a couple of the other visitors. Not much space in bedroom
I liked the location, close to the beach, railway station and shops. I liked the staff, especially Marlene who was really helpful, and was a really nice person.
My room was key code no key and would be easy for anyone to gues other room numbers as they where easy codes.
marina the hostess could not do enough for us and was lovely in every way...family room suited us well...excellent breakfast and huge amount and variety... Great books to look at too
Quite a small place where I had to duck my head a bit but maybe that's part of the charm actually
