Excellent breakfast choices, well served

A quiet hotel very close to Lewes castle and town. The room was very spacious and comfortable, although a second comfy chair would have been good. The free car park meant that we could leave the car and train connections to Brighton and Eastbourne are excellent.

Nothing to really complain about, but breakfast was pricey.

Fantastic breakfast. The historical feel to it.

The route from reception to our room was long and maze-like. Bathroom could have done with more space.

A fabulous hotel with exceptional historical character but very well appointed and with all modern facilities. A warm and friendly welcome and a lovely room with a view of the castle. With convenient car parking the Shelleys is perfect for staying in Lewes and exploring the town and local area. we enjoyed a great breakfast.

Accomodation, food and staff were perfection. Faultless.

This was an old fashioned, comfortable hotel with good service and great breakfasts (we didn't eat there in the evening). Free wifi was available in the rooms. Also loved the huge beds ( in room 2 at least)

Nothing not to like to be honest. We would stay there again.

I found the staff extremely helpful and friendly and accommodating. The main entrance and hall were impressively decorated

Our room was pleasant but the window looked directly into the restaurant so we had to keep our curtains closed most of the time there were only enough towels for 1 and 1 robe so I had to call down for more (having said that they arrived immediately!)

Central location excellent for exploring Lewes and surrounding towns and countryside. Being able to park on site a huge benefit.superior room was spacious and well equipped.

Public areas lack atmosphere. Lounge needed background music to add warmth and some furniture needs updating.

Friendly staff, good clean room and service, good car parking, well-presented food.

Restaurant service was very slow over three days. This is understandable for cooked meals, but a half hour wait for breakfast toast was regettable.

Great location in Lewes - would use this hotel as a base for day trips to Brighton. (Superior) room was large and very comfortable. Best hotel shower ever (if you like them powerful!).

Staff were not all of the same quality. Most were very good, one or two were less friendly - doesn't take much to smile a bit!

No fuss booking or booking in/out, received all we expected and ordered

The hotel has a relaxed and unobtrusive atmosphere. Furnished with old world elegance and charm. We occupied three of the "superior" rooms (which deserve that description) each with very well equipped bathrooms. Large drape curtains with matching decor convey suggest an era of quality and calm. Breakfast and dinner were of a high standard served in a delightful chandeliered dining room.

The is nothing to dislike . . . but perhaps the bar area would benefit from a few more comfortable easy chairs and occasional tables.

The poor attitude of the receptionist too hurried and business like on arrival unable to empathise with complaint re noisy bins in their yard outside our window at 6.15am

As usual the staff are very attentive and nothing is too much trouble. The Shelley is in an ideal location for exploring not only the wonderful town of Lewes, but also the surrounding area. The room was spotless and though small was comfortable

We have stayed at the Shelley before and really enjoyed our stay, however on this occasion we were in a smaller room but the cost had increased by a further £20.
