In historic Lewes, this 16th-century townhouse has been tastefully restored to create a stylish hotel and conference center, mixing elegance, history and modern design.
Score from 429 reviews Very good
Dating back to the 16th century, this former traveler's inn rests in the heart of the picturesque and historic Lewes. The White Hart Hotel offers modern facilities, and has an old-world charm.
Score from 534 reviews Good
Set on 1100 acres of beautiful Sussex countryside, this AA 4-star hotel has excellent recreational facilities and luxury rooms with stunning views of the 2 championship golf courses.
Score from 353 reviews Wonderful
With its sumptuous Renaissance style, The Grand Brighton has a magnificent location on Brighton’s seafront and is just a 10-minute walk from Brighton Pier.
Score from 1619 reviews Excellent
The receptionists have always been exceptionally friendly and efficient and the overall ambience as one walks in is most welcoming, especially with the capacious drawing room and today's newspaper on the table
Size and furnishings in bedroom. Staff very friendly and accommodating
Handles missing off drawers. Radiator valve broken. Light bulb broken in chandelier. No breakfast buffet on 1st day and then very scanty on 2nd. Niggled by the poor attention to detail.
Lovely building and gardens. Central location. Helpful staff. Comfortable room. Plenty of car parking space.
Their internet had been down, so they were not aware of our booking when we arrived. We were shown to a room that overlooked the dustbins. Then moved to another (better) room given that we didn't want to change rooms after one night. Second morning breakfast was a real disappointment - due to limited staff, the continental breakfast was not available. This isn't acceptable in a hotel of this quality and price. Generally, the hotel needs some investment e.g. worn carpets on the stairs etc and an update to the bar, and a bit of TLC. The bed could have been more comfortable.
Quality building and comfortable rooms and facilities. Old and traditional with space to breath in a tranquil setting. Excellent food provided
Service at meal times, especially Saturday evening Valentines Dinner, was disorganised and chaotic - pity food was excellent, staff were helpful but no system to serve a number of tables.
This is a charming property with wonderful public rooms and a very comfortable bedroom. We had asked for a comfortable chair in the room and two armchairs were provided. these made all the difference to our visit. We had an excellent 3 course meal on our second evening.
The breakfasts were disappointing. As there were so few guests, nothing was on display, so we had little idea of what might have been on offer. The cooked English breakfast was very mediocre and the poached haddock with eggs tasted unpleasant.
we both like the period feel and the style of the hotel, the best thing was the warthm of the room, that was very welcomed! But the staff were friendly enough and even though the hotel is abit tired looking i quite liked that as it added to the charm.
We did not like the fact that breakfast was not included and was £14.50!, luckily there are lots of nice places to go and eat. Also the cleaniness in the bathroom wasn't very good, there was shower gel and the tiled shower wall left from the last guest!
Helpful & friendly staff.
It was a very windy night & the room window insulation was not good !!
Staff were fantastic and couldn't have been nicer or more friendly: Food in the restaurant was of a very high standard.
Room was cold and the old iron windows didn't shut properly - though staff did provide us with a heater when asked. The price of the ale in the bar was extortionate - much higher even than central London prices
The lovely bedroom Comfortable bed Really helpful staff Very good breakfast
Nice spacious well furnished room and helpful reception
Pleasant stay, large room
The hairdryer definitely needs to be updated. I can't believe hotels can still have those ancient attached to the wall models with no power to dry your hair!
Excellent location, bedroom very comfortable and well appointed and staff all very helpful and friendly
Food in restaurant did not live up to the expectation from the menu. Glasses in bar of poor quality for a G and T
Room 11 has a view of multiple red/orange rubbish bins - not very pretty, rather depressing actually. Could a shed be built for them or some kind of camouflage?!
Lovely room and good breakfast
Room was cold - no heating until 5:00 pm. Breakfast day one excellent - freshly cooked , self service next day was a bit of a let down. Nowhere to put your wash bag though plenty of room for a unit.
Large bedrooms. Helpful staff.
Just a bit tired!
Bedroom and bathroom good size Friendly and personal welcome
Damp showing on bathroom ceiling Furnishings tired
Central location. Car park Spacious hotel and very comfortable room with good space and amenities. Lovely garden Very comfortable bed. Tea/coffee making facilities. Very pleasant & helpful staff. Some nice little touches in the room eg slippers, bottled water.
It might just be the location of Lewes but I did struggle to get a phone signal (O2). Wifi didn't work for me, but did for my husband - could be due to the above. Minor point, but the extractor didn't work in the bathroom so it got very steamy and the old style shower head was loose and sprayed water everywhere when put on fully.
Lovely food and excellent receptionist
Bed side light and bathroom light. Not working . Room a little small and dull.
We liked the central location in Lewes which made it easy to walk to eat out. It is a handsome building with an impressive history which is written u in the bedroom guide. Our welcome was friendly and the breakfast good. The garden would be lovely in summer.
We had litle to criticize. Perhaps the parking lot should be more clearly lit as, if you approach in the dark as we did, it is hard to make out. On the other hand, it is central and large.
Bedroom (14); breakfasts; garden; parking and town centre location. Lovely old building with pleasing bar and lounge
Olde world charm Being treated as a valued guest The bed, pillows and bed linen -all quality The bathroom
Excellent position in the centre of Lewes. Very clean rooms and comfortable beds.
Nothing to report.
Comfortable beds very friendly staff we had a problem with the shower they had no hesitation on moving us.
Spent one night at The Shelleys and had a very positive experience. The staff were helpful and friendly, and the room comfortable and spacious. The hotel has a lot of charm and the late evening snack provided in the bar was rustled up with great courtesy, despite there also being a wedding reception in progress elsewhere.
Everything - staff are excellent, rooms are perfect and the food is very good.
At breakfast, eggs should be prepared to order rather than having to scoop up the odd dried and congealed fried egg or two.
