The Ship InnThe Strand, Rye, TN31 7DB (Show map)
Excellent,
Score from 73 reviews
In the center of the small, charming town of Rye, the Ship is a modern take on the traditional English inn - a cozy pub, rich in original character, with simple, comfortable rooms above. Originally built in 1592, the Ship Inn is full of beautiful, historic features, including ancient wood beams and original hardwood floors. In the heart of the town, at the end of Mermaid Street, the inn offers real ales and cider from the barrel alongside tasty homemade food, made with fresh local ingredients. Food is freshly cooked to order and the menu mainly consists of traditional English pub dishes, with specials that change daily, from fish and fries to lobster, and from toad-in-the-hole (traditional English sausage dish) to venison. The rooms are newly decorated with comfortable beds and good quality linen, and all have private bathrooms. Books, magazines, board games and Wi-Fi are all available too, along with picnics and buckets and shovels for younger guests. Inn: 10 rooms The most recent booking for this hotel was made on May 17 at 14:41 from Japan.

Location is great. Breakfast is the best thing was awesome. The pub itself is the best one in rye. The hotel was busy which is good but bad note that it was quite noisy with people moving around. Also could hear tv/radio in room from next door.

Non of the above headings apply to the Ship. It is a small inn near the centre of a small historic town with excellent breakfasts, friendly staff and good food and beer. the choice on dinner menu could be better

Quirky yet authentic old docks warehouse. Well thought concept, well appointed rooms with a take on the oldies. Crisp linen, comfy bed and pillows. Cool decor, and bedroom fittings. Excellent food and and choice of drinks. Welcoming staff and warm interior Cold bathroom and its energy bulb took time to brighten up. Hearing a slight humming noise from the kitchen extraction fan in the room.

Breakfast was superb! Excellent smoked prawn dish, but might be easier if served in a shallower bowl Lovely toiletries Check out and breakfast at reasonable and relaxing time. Lack of information about parking No guest information book in the room Although friendly, there was a lack of information on arrival for example about the games room/guest area.

this hotel was simply the best. The landlady was the perfect host with attention to all my needs. She guided me to the hotel on a stormy night and offered me the most sumptious hospitality. The bed was more comfortable than my own and the steak excellent and offered an accompaniment of 500ml excellent wine. An excellent idea. One glass not enough. A botttle perhaps too much. The breakfast of french toast, blueberries and bacon sublime Absolutely nothing!

price-excellent value location-good location near to town centre and antiques chilled atmosphere, armchairs, newspapers etc room was perfect for solo traveller, spotlessly clean, comfortable bed , brilliant solar DAB radio, everything I needed and most important crisp, fresh white bed linen. could have easily stayed more nights. service could have been more welcoming, little more attention to making the guest feel welcome and valued would have made this stay perfect. I know it was cheap but good service costs nothing and makes the difference. Breakfast- I went for full English so my choice and I could have asked for less. Too much and bit greasy. No side plates for toast. No marmalade or jam. Orange juice bit frothy and strange. I'm getting a bit picky now but a tablecloth would have made the difference, eating area was fine but table mucky and had writing on it was was a little offputting in the morning eating breakfast.

The hotel is right at the bottom of Rye Town Centre and close to all ameneties and sights. We loved Rye and I am sure we will return. The hotel staff were really friendly and helpful from the moment we arrived. In particular the young girl that checked us in and served our breakfast the following morning - nothing was too much trouble for her. The room was really nicely decorated/furnished and had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. Breakfast was massive and we couldn't eat it all which is probably a first. We ate in the bar in the evening. Really nice atmosphere and fantastic food. The lack of parking close to the accommodation was the only thing I could fault. This was not an issue for us as we parked at the railway station which was really cheap and a short distance away. We were aware of this before we arrived so it's not a complaint it is just something to note.

Quirky. Very good breakfast, local and home made produce. Rye is an interesting place. Room was small, but was advertised as such. Little sound insulation between rooms......the guest next door snored! The window was single glazed and did not seal well so there was a lot of street noise.

Lovely warm welcome to this very charismatic inn. Room was comfy with funky design and great little extras. Breakfast was superb. Definitely recommend to anyone who likes a bit olde worldy comfort mixed with some funky quirkiness. Could have squeezed in a slightly wider double bed but not a big deal.

Whilst being an historic building (and the bar/restaurant retains this atmosphere), the bedrooms were decorated in a quirky, contemporary style. There were special little thoughtful touches, unique to the Inn, which has a very relaxed, friendly style. We were very impressed indeed by the hard-working, cheerful and helpful staff throughout our stay; nothing was too much trouble. The food was excellent at breakfast with unusual menu offerings as well as the traditional. We also enjoyed a super dinner in their restaurant. This is not a luxury Inn, the rooms have bare-painted floorboards, the style eclectic, maybe a little spartan but we liked the cleanliness of our room (No. 9), the fluffy white towels and the feather/down pillows and duvet! A great weekend stay... The only small complaint maybe was that our mattress could have been a little more comfortable and the bed was very squeaky!
