Room (suite) had uninterrupted sea view. Fully controllable heating (0 C outside), comfortable bed, quiet, fridge & tea making facilities, quality tasteful furnishings. Potential to rate this 5 star - just a shame about a couple of negatives below, which should have been remedied in advance. Well intentioned friendly owners. This was a really enjoyable stay (for a no-star hotel!) but qualified below. Extractor fan not working in windowless bathroom with WC. Unacceptable to be told "Sorry, nothing I can do". Could have offered the use of another bathroom (I think we were the only guests that night), deodorant spray, or token reduction on bill?). Several ceiling lights not working. Neutral verdict on breakfast: anaemic bacon, toasts cold and like biscuits. Check-in was via the bar counter - a bit unpleasant when carrying luggage and pub guests watching. This may have been a temporary arrangemet. Please note the above are all points for improvement, and apart from the extractor fan the positives far outweighed the negatives! I would recommend this hotel provided the extractor fan and lights all work.

The landlord and his family were very helpful and friendly. Food served in the resturant was of as very high standard. The Channel Tunnel was only 10 min drive so made our morning departure easy.

The food provided in the restaurant was excellent at all times and backed up by extremely attentive and helpful staff. I stayed in a room at the back of the hotel that was very small and looked out over a courtyard that was full of beer barrels and old garden furniture, hardly a pleasant outlook. In addition the hotel was due for refurbishment therefore scaffolding and builders materials were evident everywhere. Will be interested to see the improvement.

An excellent stop off point if you are travelling to or from the continent. We had a great stay got a good welcome and a lovely comfortable room. Had a great meal in the restaurant and a lovely cooked breakfast watching the sun come up over the sea. We also loved lying in bed listening to the waves crashing on the beach in a huge comfortable double bed. Great Hotel and recommend this.

The room (at the top of the house) was really nice, light, very clean and spacious with a dormer window that you can look out to the sea through. The bed was really comfortable and there was a large flat screen tv in the corner of the room. The stylish fridge contained complementary water, J20's and fresh milk and the biscuits were really tasty. The bathroom was brand new and really nice. There was also a small private lounge at our disposal hat looked straight out to the beach with another even larger tv in it. Stuart, our host, and his wife were absolutely charming and nothing was too much trouble. Breakfast was delicious and served in the airy conservatory/restaurant overlooking the beach. We would definitely stay here again and next time will try the restaurant for dinner as it was fully booked and we have heard good reviews. The bathroom was actually a wet room which on one hand was absolutely beautiful but on the other hand got pretty wet when showering. We understand that this suite is a 'work in progress' and Stuart has plans to improve it even more. Would have liked a full length mirror and somewhere comfortable to sit to style my hair but have a feeling that this may well be resolved in the next stage.

Relaxing on the coast, the atmosphere was just what we were looking for, calm, peacefull, quite an exclusive little coastline. Excellent food in the Inn's resturaunt. Will definately go back again. We went whilst not having the kids for the weekend, and it seems Sandgate in Folkstone have no kids!! So really was relaxing and calm!! We are in our late 30's and do love our kids, just found it great to remind us of those pre-parent days!! It was all really quite refreshing.

The rooms were in an adjacent house, some conversion work is still in progress on other rooms. The building is old but within the confines of this the conversion has been nicely done, good bed, carpets and bathroom (ok, shower room). We had a sea view through a Velux window. Complimentary drinks in the fridge, tea and coffee makings provided, and an attentive and friendly proprietor. Breakfast was excellent (traditional English, well prepared). We (with friends) very much enjoyed the bar (the Ship is of course a pub) and dinner with a sea view. Fifteen minutes to Dover Eastern Docks, and street parking was available outside the doors. The stairs are steep and winding, nothing abnormal for a British building of this age, but may be offputting to those who would prefer an elevator.

we were a bit concerned when we first saw pub and our host was absent so we waited out on seafront.Doesn't seem too organized yet but getting there. When our host Stuart arrived, he showed us to our rooms which were in renovated attached cottage although still some renovation underway. Our room was 'Seaview suite ' and lived up to its name re view and was adequate size to fit our luggage . Bathroom a bit cramped but well appointed. Floorboards a bit noisy and uneven. bed comfy. dinner in reastaurant was lovely, tasty fresh seafood, great service and lovely and modern with big windows and seaviews which we really appreciated at bfast. Stuart cooked us a lovely fresh breakfast. Our friends had attic room which will have its own sitting room opposite when fully renovated. entrance to rooms uneven noisy floorboards noisy fridge

Locaton right on seafront, also convenient for channel tunnel stopover. Basically a traditional lively pub with rooms. Room was very comfortable with impressive shower room and super sea views. Excellent restaurant for evening meal. Excellent breakfast. Attentive personal service from landlord Separate access to rooms in annex was via a storage passageway.- not in keeping with the high standard of the rooms themselves. No access to terrace or balcony as described in the room description. Check-in via the pub bar a little bit haphazard - no-one seemed to be expecting us and we could not check in for 2 hours after the stated time.

Staff were very friendly- restaurant had a great view but food was mixed - starter of scallops very good the fish with grapes was frankly bizarre and the sea food pasta and pate very good but no vegetables available to order - 28th birthday party in the front bar very good fun and locals very welcoming all in all good fun and value and the boss went to the extra trouble of arranging a continental breakfast as we were leaving early - thanks for a good stay and I would recommend it

This was our 2nd visit, and we were delighted with the improvements. The rooms are lovely, immaculate and very comfortable, as they were before. The restaurant was very busy, and our steaks were excellent. It is a great place to stay even for 1 night en route to France, we would not stay anywhere else now! Great breakfast lovely staff. Higly recommended!

“Welcoming and warm staff. This is a bed & breakfast so you feel like you're a guest in a beautiful private home as opposed to in a stuffy hotel. Very relaxing. Luxurious guest room decor, modern private bath, and simple but elegant made-to-order breakfast. Lovely patio with access to private gardens in the prettiest part of Folkestone, and just a block from the Leas seaside walk. Oh yes, and complimentary cake & tea or coffee, and a glass of wine or beer too. I couldn't ask for more!” Palmer, Buford, Georgia |
