On the edge of the Lake District, Shepherds Hotel offers a modern bar, ample free parking and spacious rooms. The center of Cockermouth is just a mile away.
Score from 367 reviews Very good
The room was excellent, The food was first class and I complemented on the presentation. I have in the past, paid a lot more on hotels that weren't a patch on The Sleepwell. I will definitely stay again when next in the area
Minor issue that the car park access was a bit tight for large cars but it wouldn't stop me visiting again
room had everything you need, including ear plugs for poor sleepers.
Going across the road to book in. The bed was on the firm side for me.
Washington Central, staff, food, cleanliness and Wi Fi
Washington Central, creaky floorboards, noisy plumbing and it's strange quirkiness
Being in the town centre
Having to pay for wi-fi
Convenient for my purposes Lack
Lack of staff in building Ill fitting key card
Staff were all excellent
The hotel does not have its own reception and parking is very limited. You need to go to another hotel to check in and they will then direct you to another car park. All very frustrating arriving after a days work. Make sure you know exactly where to go before you arrive.
The room was lovely. As we arrived late had to collect key from across the road so got no wifi code.
Room too hot.
Near to where we had to go. Up to date and modern. Good location.
The ironing board and iron in the middle of the inn. The noise from the nightclub was abit much at 4.00am.
Although the accommodation is on a main road it is reasonably quiet. The room was very spacious and had free tea/coffee making facilities. Very comfortable bed but could do with a comfy chair to relax in while watching TV/reading. Toiletries were also supplied and towels were fresh each day. Excellent full english breakfast and very attentive staff in the breakfast room.
I felt the accommodation was expensive for the location. The room was also a little too warm and the only opening window was quite small. It was about a 100 yard walk down the road to the main hotel for breakfast/dinner. Parking facilities were limited and spaces were very tight, if you are a blue badge holder!! As a guest at the Sleepwell you are expected to pay £7.50 to use the leisure facilities at the main Washington central Hotel. I feel this should be free for the price paid for the Sleepwell room.
rooms were well maintained
first time i have seen a hotel who has doesnt have anyone frm admin in its premises.. reception outsourced to other hotel..
Clean, comfortable, good location. We had a room at the back so no traffic noise. Helpful staff, although the Sleepwell itself is unstaffed - the staff are based at the Washington Central which is across the road. Had use of the leisure faciliites at the Washington Central - 20m pool, jacuzzi, sauna, steam room and gym
Walls between the rooms were very thin and we had noisy neighbours. Could hear doors slamming all night. We didn't eat at the hotel, but dining room was across the road at the other hotel so would have got wet if it was raining. Car park was a bit tight - OK if everyone parks sensibly but you can't always rely on that!
Bed uncomfortable Pillows uncomfortable Noisy doors that slammed everytime someone came home Noisy neighbours in hotel Noisy outside ,people coming home Sensor light in ironing room that kept going off every 10 seconds Having to go to hotel on other side of road to get keys
Handy for town centre Facilities good as you can use main hotel Good room size
Bed too firm (personal opinion) Sound proofing poor/ noisy road kept us awake Door to hotel very noisy also kept us awake as we were next to it, Had booked for two nights but only stayed for one due to no sleep
Location, decor, staff
Confusion over check in process at sister hotel.
Rooms were beautiful
Paper thin walls, could hear the next rooms conversation word for word and that was with the tv on!
Fairly good location, easy to get around the town centre. Comfortable, tidy rooms with all necessities available.
It's right by the road and even as a heavy sleeper I found it quite noisy. My bed was under the stairs to the first floor and I could hear people running up and down really loud straight above me.
Location, quite, comfortable.
Lovely Room, friendly helpful staff on maIn site. On the whole, excellent facilities. Free parking was a bonus.
I visited in midsummer and the lack of even a small fan in the room made the room uncomfortably hot and prevented any of us from having a good nights sleep. The only ventilation was from very small window and was woefully inadequate. Local pub was also very noisy.
Easy to find. Safe and secure. The staff were excellent and very friendly. Rooms are clean, modern and comfortable. Great value for money
The only issue could possibly be the central location. Bars and pubs near by. However stayed on a Friday night and did not notice the noise at all.
You could hear every tiny bit of noise through the walls, thankfully I was part of a large group so I knew who was staying on either side of my room so this was not so much of an issue for me as it would be for individual guests. The car park is quite frankly a joke. I had no idea where it was and when I did eventually find it there was no spaces left for my car. My shower made a horrendous noise both mornings which my friends who were also staying there could hear from their rooms.
There was nothing to be liked.
Unfortunatly, there was nothing to be liked. The staff was quite rude and uncooperative. Moreover, my young daughters were harassed by the guests staying in the same building. I reported to management but they didn't take any notice. The location of building was scary. Cleanliness was poor where Duvet was wet with stains on it. The rooms were not equipped with amenities and air-conditioned was missing. I will never recommend this hotel to anyone.
Very close to local pubs and city center.
Very noisy outside my window not from the pubs or clubs but from the traffic in the morning and the room was very warm and the fan wasn't the best.
The (upstairs) room was very warm (I made sure the heating was off) and could get very little fresh air into the room as there was one small window that opened. Not very good for parking.
Room was comfortable and tv and wifi were good
Check in was in a separate hotel 300 yards away across a busy main road, breakfast would have been in that location and parking was very restricted.
