For accommodation to hit the spot it must provide a few essentials: - a comfortable bed in a warm room - a hot bath/shower - good, honest fare - a warm welcome I guess in this day and age you could also add WIFI reception to the list. Well the Somerset Arms meets all these criteria in spades. The food especially is worthy of note. We had an excellent cooked breakfast served on piping hot plates and equally the evening meals were excellent and very reasonably priced. Kate and Roy your hosts go the extra mile to ensure your stay is a success and are very knowledgeable about the local points of interest including Stourhead, Longleet and Bath which are all close by. If you had to be picky you might say the décor to the common areas is a bit tired now and it would have been good to have a shelf or two in the shower room and the shower (unless you enjoy playing football with a bar of soap) but these are tiny issues and certainly did not detract from a most enjoyable couple of days. We shall certainly return and are happy to recommend you give it a try. Just needs a paintbrush here and there.

A very warm welcome and excellent service from owners and staff alike. Accommodation is tasteful, shabby chic style which appealed to us. Food was very good and value for money and restaurant was comfortable - appreciated the lovely open fires. Child friendly too despite being a pub and we would recommend to family & friends. Only drawback was sani-flow system in bathroom. Whilst we appreciated the necessity of having it we were worried the noise when we used the loo or shower would disturb other guests.

Very relaxing room, good decore and quiet location. The food was particularly good - excellent rib-eye steak and beautifully cooked breakfast. Very friendly . The hotel had problems with the central heating boiler which I'm sure is OK now.

Never actually stayed in a hotel with a slipper bath in the room. Excellent fire in the restaurant. My wife asked for a Merlot - but they had run out.

The countryside is beautiful. The room was spacious and very clean and we had everything we needed. Sadly the chef/proprietor was ill and so we had to eat elsewhere for a couple of our evening meals. It took a long time for the water to get hot, presumably we were a long way from the main hot water tank and we had no plug in the wash basin.

Staff were excellent, very friendly. Room spacious, and comfortable. And food lovely. With two young children of 2 and 6, we didn't have a bath in our room which we did expect, but the shower room is nice.

The bed was quite comfortable and the bar, the first evening, with a log fire and three chaps who played folk music, apparently on a regular basis, was quite entertaining. Almost everything else. The shower/bathroom was poor. The food was very limited and overpriced. We were charged £23.50 for a very ordinary bottle of wine - which they provided in error. We were the only residents for the 2 nights and on the second morning, at 9am, when we had arranged to have breakfast, the whole place was locked up and the landlord asleep. I knocked loudly an couldn't wake him - eventually I had to enter his apartment. He was extremely aggressive and defensive - no apology - he did serve breakfast in a surly manner while allowing his aged and manky dog to sniff and snuffle at us in the breakfast room - and this was after he had established that I didn't particularly like dogs - especially ones that had to be muzzled as this one did. An unpleasant experience.

The bathroom was lovely, it was very near longleat. The family room consisted of 2 fold down broken beds which my children could not sleep on. The owner was very angery, grumpy and rude. He locked us in the B&B while he went out which was a fire risk as we could not leave. In different hands this could probably be a very nice place but as it is I would never like to go anywhere near the Somerset Arms again.
