Very friendly staff and looked after our group. They even opened up the bar when we returned early looking for a drink.
The staff where very helpfull and the room was great ... the breakfast was outstanding ..and all in a great location I would definitely stay there again.....
it says on the web page etc that check in is 18.00 -22.00 which is a bit late I thought, but if you phone they will allow you do check in a bit earlier
The bedroom was first class even though it was a 'basic.' Generally the Staff of Life provided very good value for money and the cleanliness was exemplary.
The stairs were a bit of a problem being both steep and turning, but what do you expect in a centuries old inn.
Location Pleasant room
Unironed duvet cover Bed base showing - not covered by a valance or similar Breakfast only available until 9am on the weekend Not being able to access our room until 6pm on the day we arrived Disappointing breakfasts - greasy omelette cooked in oil not butter No Earl Grey tea or sweeteners Incredibly noisy shower
Lovely location, great pub, well furnished room, limited but high quality breakfast. Freindly and helpful staff
The late afternoon check in time in itself is not a problem. However, locations literature and the booking.com website need to emphasize that before the check in time guests may not be able to gain access to the building/their room/etc. For anyone needing to change for an evening event, this could be a real issue. We were lucky and after a bit of a wait were given access.
Nice setting and decoration. Pleasant welcome. Room was nicely decorated and well fitted out. Nice biscuits.
Unable to gain access to rooms until 6pm. No phone signal. Incredibly noisy shower unit - the one from next door was equally as noisy as we could hear it through the walls. Mould in the shower tray. Un-ironed duvet cover. Uncovered bed base units. Lack of choice for evening meal - run out of a number of pork and chicken choices. Limited breakfast hours at the weekend - between 7 and 9am only! No Earl Grey tea or sweeteners available. Omelette cooked in oil rather than butter so was rather unappetising No replacement tissues or hot chocolate drink on the second day.
The warm welcome and high quality service from friendly staff. Spotless room and fulsome breakfast
Even better with an improved shower flow
Nice bedroom area, comfy bed.
The bathroom...it is a wet room so once you have used the shower you need your wellies to go and use the loo! The shower itself would not turn off properly after I had used it and continued to splash water all around the room. The sink is tiny and with a shelf directly above it, making it impossible to use it to wash your face or shave.
the middle of the bed was uncomfortable because of the join
Staff helpfulness, relaxed atmosphere.
Very nice bedroom, good design, lovely bathroom .good parking
Breakfast was very poor quality, menu states breakfast 'cooked to order' but arrived on table within minutes, burnt tomatoes, mushrooms toast ,over cooked eggs. no table cloth ,tea served as hot water in cup with teabag floating ,no side plates. not what we expected b&b for £160
Good food Helpful staff Comfortable and clean rooms Lovely location
Room was superb definitely worth upgrading. Owner and staff were so friendly and welcoming. Food was excellent and generous portions. Good value
Wifi didn't work in our room but to be fair that was due to the walls of the room being 2 foot solid stone!
Room very comfortable and made very welcome
Lovely room, superb bed. Gorgeous breakfast and excellent service.
Not the pub's fault, but it was a hot night and the narrow window did not allow much fresh air into the room.
Lovely, clean and homely room. Plenty of tea/coffee options in our room, as well as some biscuits (cute!) Chatty, friendly staff. Nice free breakfast in the morning!
No fault of the staff, but you don't get any signal there. Staff used their phone to call for a cab though which was nice!
Comfortable and well proportioned room and bathroom. Evening meal well presented and value for money even for those with a 'good appetite'!
Some instructions for the shower would have been helpful! Less conversation over breakfast would have been appreciated.
Everything - the whole weekend was very pleasant.
Nothing to report
The warm welcome received and the friendliness of the staff. The excellent menus for breakfast, lunch and evening meal. The location was ideal for us - lots to see and a good stopping off point on our way home.
My husband and I are both tall - we kept having to remember not to hit the beam when going from bedroom to bathroom!
Very helpful staff, accomodation very clean and comfortable. Food excellent.
I got into my room earlier than the normal opening time , thanks to the helpfull and friendly landlady
The service is always so good there - I always use this pub when watching football tournaments in Derby and the care and provision that they show is excellent.
Nothing at all!
Very good price-quality / good working free wifi
Comfortable & homely feel about the place. Good simple food prepared in house and cooked to order. Welcoming and helpful staff.
The staff were great, I arrived 10 minutes after making the booking and caught them on the hop but I was able to eat a really pleasant meal whilst they prepped the room. The room was great and the following morning I enjoyed an excellent breakfast cooked by the owner. Overall a lifesaver and somewhere if I'm in the area I will definitely stay again.
