Great location on the High street. Excellent base to explore the New Forest and south coast. Excellent rooms, spacious and well furnished. Good quality food and ambiance of the décor, rustic quality. Staff helpful and courteous.

Not long enough

From the moment we stepped into the hotel to the time we left the staff were amazing: friendly, welcoming, efficient and professional. Nothing was too much trouble. The bed and pillows were very comfortable. A lovely large room with a pair of comfy chairs. A large TV, tea, coffee, biscuits; shower with fresh towels as required, and good toiletries. There was some noise from the street, as on the second floor was not that bad. As listed premises they are not permitted to change the windows and currently looking to alternative noise reduction methods. The breakfasts, full English, with toast which was actually toasted, not soggy limp excuse for it,like many places; egg, choice of poached, scrambled, boiled or fried, two large rashers of bacon, large sausage, large tomato cut in half and mushrooms, all locally sourced and fresh; plus cereal, yoghurt, fresh fruit and fruit juices. Dinners were hot, excellent and tasty also. The premises were very clean. It was also quite unusual and interesting hotel. I left a pair of gold earrings in the room. Robert rang just after we arrived home to inform me that he would put them in the post! I definately would recommend The Stag.

There is no telephone in the room, which is a minor detail given everything else was just right.

Selection of Menu appears no thinking, same basic menu as the whole village. Nothing to make you want to eat there.

A warm and friendly hotel with brilliant staff who were very accommodating, friendly and helpful. Their full English breakfast is perfectly cooked and sets you up for a day exploring and their pub meals were delicious.. (I can recommend the steak and ale pie.. melt in the mouth beef chunks..) We loved our visit and wished we could have stayed longer. We will definitely be back.

Perfect location, very friendly staff and lovely rooms

Overall, a great experience with the exception of food. The hotel is part of a pub chain so on the ground floor they have this facility with upstairs ( quite well distributed ) rooms. I ordered a fish pie just one of the evenings and breakfasts in the morning; probably I had higher expectations on this side as coming from London to the countryside I could experience a more "homely" hand made food, for my disappointment. Nevertheless, a great, fantastic place to stay. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Staff were always extremely helpful - including dealing with an email query before my arrival. Very surprised by the quality of the rooms for the price - equivalent to a 4 star but more spacious and with more character than your average hotel room. Well presented clean bathroom with all the little extras - shampoo, shower cap etc. Plenty of car parking at the rear with direct access to the hotel.

That I couldn't stay longer.
