Wonderful building - but mind your head! Very pleasant welcome and nice friendly staff. Room and view great. Excellent standard of food. What was better? The venison or apple and blackberry crumble.. Will ponder on that for a while. Altogether a very nice weekend stay.
Having to come home!
Everthing. Accommodation, food & staff first class.
There was nothing to dislike.
Food excellent Location picturesque Staff friendly and helpful
Bed to small Bedding too hot Noise from adjacent room (extractor fan in bathroom)
the hotel / inn was amazing for its age. Great position in the heart of the kent countryside easy access to local attractions and walks. Fantastic scenery
The bed was a bit small and the mattress uncomfortable
Staff were extremely helpful and attentive. Views were beautiful and the building has retained all its characteristics from a time when a gang of smugglers from Hawkhurst a few miles away used to use it to drink and terrorise the village.
The room could have used a fan. The windows did open but being at the front traffic noise was surprisingly regular through the night. The food was fine but we felt a little overpriced.
The staff were very welcoming, and also very accommodating when it came to food, which was excellent. Because we were attending a funeral, we didn't have very much time to enjoy the facilities. We had stayed at the hotel on the occasion of the 90th birthday, of the person whose funeral we were attending, so we knew it was comfortable, and that was why we chose to return. Thank you for making our stay enjoyable.
A beautiful and characterful building and friendly and helpful staff. A very relaxing stay.
Nothing to dislike
Quirkiness - experience of living in the past - meal was good - being in village location. Wi Fi good
Difficulty with luggage up stairs. In some rooms low beams could be a problem for some people.
building and décor food bathrooms rear rooms
some road noise
If you are looking for a modern 5-star hotel, then the Star & Eagle is not for you. If, however, you are looking for a village hotel with lots of character and history, good facilities, friendly staff, an excellent restaurant menu, and in a convenient location in Kent, then this is a must.
Staff were excellent! And the food I during dinner and breakfast was delicious. The room had a gorgeous four poster bed, with very comfy mattress and bedding.
For this much money, I would have expected a nicer bathroom; the shower leaked on the carpet flooring and the whole bathroom was very dated. Also, the chairs in the room were a bit grubby.
Nice room and bathroom, character property, good dinner menu and food, fine included free breakfast.
Food, service, beer, the beautiful building and location.
Er.... ... nothing to add.
Very friendly and welcoming staff. Good breakfast and evening food
This hotel is full of character and history. The service was superb and nothing was too much trouble for the staff to make sure we had a lovely stay at the Star and Eagle
If I had to name something, it would be squeaky, uneven floorboards but that is part of the charm!!
Typical pub + hotel, nice village friendly staff, good food, room was large
room and bathroom a bit in need of refurbishing
Location and village was nice. The hotel is very old and has lots of heritage and history
Rooms could be upgraded for example the TV was small and took up space in the room on a trolley when a bigger flat screen could easily have been installed mounted on the wall even in a listed building. The food was expensive but nice.
Beautifull old and characterisic hotel next to a very beautiful old church. Nice view over Kentish Weald. Centrally located in Kent. Very good breakfast, very good restaurant. Cosy pub. Terrace behind hotel and effective parking space. We enjoyed it very much and would be happy to come back.
The road in front of the hotel is quite busy and narrow. You have to be attentive getting on and of the road. But this applies for a lot of the roads in Kent. We slept at the back and did not hear any noise. Also there is a bend in the road before the hotel so traffic slows down considerably.
Carlos, front of staff, was charming and helpful. Dinner was very good but expensive. At those prices they should provide linen napkins not tatty paper ones.
This hotel is situated on a very busy road at rush hour. Our bedroom at front noisy. Bathroom shower over bath pathetic and difficult to use as the ceilings are so low. My husband had to bend awkwardly under the shower so how a really tall person would cope I can't imagine . They need to smarten up their image, having a quaint old inn does not merit 4 stars.
Interesting old property
Variety of bedclothes for summer conditions. Something less than a heavy duvet please.
Food, service, ambiance.
The access along the corridor to room 10 was a bit challenging but we made it and the quaintness adds charm. For someone disabled it would have been impossible.
Helpful, friendly staff. There was plenty of choice at breakfast. Room was quiet even though it was on the front of the property by the road, and very comfortable, smashing shower. The walk to the room was hazardous, with low doorways and endless fire doors, but that just added to the novelty of the place.
The windows were old and couldn't be opened, with fixed double glazing. This meant the room was a bit stuffy after a hot day. I like to sleep with the window open.
Amazing staff, beautiful countryside, very good restaurant
Very attractive place to stay with lovely views from the bedroom. Nice breakfast. Helpful staff.
Somewhat noisy when people walked past as they came upstairs.
Beer garden and location are perfect, lovely setting and most of the rooms were very nice.
Avoid room 9 if you're tall, VERY low ceilings and the old windows had been painted shut.
