In picturesque Woodstock, just 20 minutes’ drive from Oxford centre, Macdonald Bear Hotel offers free parking and a restaurant. Set in a 13th-century inn, the charming rooms have period features.

Situated in central Woodstock, this charming 17th-century building is 8 miles north of Oxford. It’s restaurant overlooks the market square, and the 6 rooms all benefit from free wired internet.
Score from 178 reviews Fabulous
excellant staff from welcome through to breakfast in a very busy pub
minor plumbing issues in room 2
The problem with this establishment is although it no doubt enjoys the income from letting rooms it is not entirely committed to the venture. For instance in order to actually occupy your room you have to ascend a staircase which would have challenged Sir Edmund Hilary and Tenzing Norgay. Should you be lucky enough to reach your room relatively intact, the steepness of the approach encumbered with luggage having failed to trigger the expected cardiac arrest, you find that the murmur of conversations in the bar below can be clearly heard in said room. That aside the accommodation was adequate for the price but as if to prove the opening statement our breakfast was serve by a member of wearing jeans, is this, what is termed as quaint?
Excellent location, with very helpfull and friendly staff.
Slight damp patch in the bathroom.
Lovely old cosy, friendly pub in a lovely town brilliantly located serving great & different warming pub food. Good value for money.
Room was cold on arrival as no heating had been switched on. It was also dark so not very welcoming on a cold winters evening.
Lovely Location Friendly and Cosy Atmosphere in bar area
Noisy neighbours in above/adjoining room at 5am Staff seemed a little too laid back
Food at the Star and quaint building. Location convenient for visiting. Blenhiem Palace and Oxford.
There wasn't anything to dislike.
location, breakfast, having a proper hair dryer
room bit cold on arrival, but fine once turned on radiator
Loved the location food was excellent great for Bleinham Palace and all the staff so nice and friendly
We liked everything !!!!
Food Ambience Location
Bedroom carpet could do with replacing
Location for Blenheim, bus service good.Food good choices, breakfast good and being 8 to 11 o'clock so you did not have to rush. Rooms were spacious and warm.
Great location friendly staff good food
There was no buffet style breakfast you had to order everything fruite juice toast and cereals etc but having said that the breakfast was lovely
Welcoming atmosphere, lovely room and a great breakfast
Located in the heart of the town and almost next door to the museam and the entrance to Blenheim at the end of the street. Beautiful room and comfy bed, clean new bathroom and matching furniture in the bedroom to go with the eligant decor, proper cotton sheets etc on the bed, and could get the window open for fresh air, very quite even in the front of the building, Food very good for dinner and also very pleasant staff and value for money.
Was not sure about parking, had to leave car in main street, but it is o.k to park there as long as we needed at the moment, checked with the traffic warden, things may change in the future and could be impossible in high season. The stairs to the bedrooms are windey, steep and narrow, would not be suited to anyone who is unfit, but the staff would have dealt with the cases. There was no safety mat in the shower, but our overall comment would be that we would stay again and reccomend to our friends.
Warm welcome, a lovely room with Egyptian cotton bed linen, nice to have big, soft bath towels, very quiet room, food was exceptional, do try the home made pies as the best we have ever eaten.
Nothing at all.
We had a very good evening meal and found ourselves part of the weekly quiz which was fun. Everything was perfect, the staff were both friendly and helpful and there was a terrific atmosphere in the pub/dining area.
There was an event in town and so we spent a good 20 minutes trying to find a parking place. In the morning the room was cold but we told the staff and the central heating was immediately put on and this made a huge difference very fast.
The staff were exactly right in their attentiveness. The inn was obviously an integral part of the community which created a nice atmosphere. It was also within easy walking distance of Blenheim Palace and there was an excellent bus service into Oxford.
It was a small double bed and we hoped to have a bath in the room but these are our only criticisms.
The location was perfect... the staff were really friendly and went out of their way to help us... the food was awesome...
We enjoyed the atmosphere of the pub which included the open fire. The staff were helpful and very friendly, nothing was too much trouble. The room was very comfortable and cosy. Would recommend to anyone
There was nothing that we disliked.
Excellent location Good food
bed and ensuite bathroom both good .staff friendly and helpful
piped music at breakfast.no jams etc- we were given a menu and it seemed as if it was all "set" We thought it was pricey for what it was but that seems to be the " going rate" for Woodstock.
Food and service in the bar
Room was pricey really and shower ranjit and cold
The location and food was exellant
The stairs to the bedrooms were extremely sterp
Location in village; quality of meals; attentiveness of staff
It's difficult to park in the village (no fault of the hotel)
Wonderful helpful staff, friendly locals and a great atmosphere.
'Daily Specials' remained the same throughout our stay!
Good atmosphere and friendly welcoming staff.
Slow drinks service when eating in the evening, long wait for first order, and then had to ask twice for second drink.
