Score from 139 reviews Very good
Friendly welcome and good food in a buzzy bar. I thought the rooms above would be noisy but the sound didn't carry.
The stairs up to the rooms were very steep and narrow and difficult to go up carrying a case. Quite a small bed and no tea or coffee in the room.
The staff were friendly, the food was basic, but good and the room was very comfortable and looked out on the main street, yet we were not troubled by noise. It was an easy walk to the nearest bus stop to take one of the frequent double deckers into the centre of Oxford. All in all it was very comfortable and extremely well priced. We will return I am sure.
It was a listed building, so there was no way around the steep ,winding staircase to the room that was difficult with a suitcase.Worse things have happened at sea, so it was an inconvenience that did not spoil our stay.
Great staff, lovely rooms and food not bad!!! Would highly recommend
Location and friendly feel of the Inn. Good facilities.
Slight street noise when people were leaving the Inn. Luckily didn't last long.
Excellent food. Well located in the centre of Woodstock.
No private parking but plenty of parking spaces outside on the main street
helpful staff good location good food value for money
spiral stair case
The food & drink. The helpful and friendly staff. The quiet room.
The steep stairs. Lack of on-site car parking (but no problems parking in the square).
Everything except the two points listed here which were seen to be problems.
The first problem is parking, it is difficult to get a parking spot near to the hotel, and while we were assured that we would not get ticketed for parking, the signs everywhere suggested the opposite so we did not risk it. Secondly the stairs to the first floor and are extremely steep. We were just about able to get up and down, but we definitely needed assistance with our bags. Indeed our largest bag was such that we didn't attempt to take it to our room even having one of the very willing staff to help.
Friendliness of staff. At breakfast, our choice of cereal was finished, so the waitress said it was no trouble to pop out for more, which she duly did. At dinner, all the staff were friendly and chatty without being intrusive.
Perhaps the rear of bar is a bit gloomy for dining.
Room was spacious, nice comfy bed and clean. Plenty of coffee, tea etc. Nice lot of toiletries supplied. Had a very nice stay and would stay there again.
Lack of coat hangers, only 2. Curtains let a bit of light in down sides so disturbed sleep.
Friendly staff, excellent food, comfortable en suite rooms, situated in the heart of beautiful Woodstock and within an easy five minutes walk to the grounds of Blenheim Palace.
Nothing to dislike!
Lovely large room with bags of old world charm. Very comfortable bed
Stair case up to the room is very narrow and winding. Difficult with a large case and no help. Breakfast choice and service were a little limited.
The food was superb , the room was very clean and comfortable, and we have booked again for another business weekend in Woodstock.
Location Staff friendly quiz good fun food OK room comfortable
Flush poor in en suite bathroom
Lovely staff Nice room Good breakfast
Was very noisy on the street outside in the morning It would have been nice to have had a fan in the room
The old world character of the taditional inn. Good menu, (the beef pie was huge) cheerful staff, comfortable bed, what more could you ask for?
We liked everything. Splendid room and the service was excellent. Food was great.
The inn was fantastic for food, staying and beer was too notch. It seemed to be the busiest pub in Woodstock but from the room we were in (4) we couldn't hear a thing. Would highly recommend. The staff were excellent and the breakfast was amazing. Thank u for a great stay.
The bed wasn't overly comfortable for someone who suffers bad back as it was 2 single beds pushed together with a double mattress on top.
good food Friendly staff
small bed Waitress training need
The Star is a fantastic traditional inn tastefully extended over the years but retaining its original character and charm. Some previous reviews had criticised the winding stairs but although tight and different to what would be expected in a modern building, they added to the charm of the building. Food was plentiful with a wide choice and beautifully cooked. Staff were always on hand and extremely helpful. Full marks in all departments.
The staff were friendly and helpful at all times. The location was perfect for our purpose, with a lovely view from the room. The room itself was well decorated and spacious.
Outstanding value: a real gem of a place.
Staff very friendly and obliging.
Staircase to our room was steep and winding with very narrow treads. Very dangerous.
Nice pub and nice village
Expensive in my opinion - but I guess that's England in August...
