A few small cleaning issues in the room. A hair in the bath, a few dusty areas and a kettle with coffee stains on it.
The corridors needed a bit of a touch up on the paintwork here and there. During the morning cleaning, fire doors were propped open with cleaning carts and extinguishers.
Upon check in, we were not informed that it would be beneficial to book a table for the evening, as it was prone to get busy, especially on a Friday and Saturday night. Because of this, we had to wait to be seated. We felt that staying customers should have had some sort of priority for being seated. It would also have been nice to have had a discount on orders for residents of the hotel.
There was no telephone in the room to contact staff. we had to walk across to the pub to talk to anyone.
Breakfast was slightly annoying, as orders were mixed up and meals came out missing items, such as hashbrowns and even eggs! When we brought this up, we were informed that there was a new person in the kitchen and they were still learning. But as soon as we voiced these issues, the remainder of the breakfast was brought out to us.
Nice crisp linen and very comfortable bed.
Relatively quiet in the block of rooms and no noise from the pub, but we were the last people in the bar! Haha!
Food was lovely. A good choice and ample portion sizes.
A great location; only a ten minutes walk from town, and twenty minutes from the beach. If in town, you could catch a taxi back for just a couple of pounds, and they were quick to arrive when called to pick us up from the hotel. Plenty of parking at the hotel, which is a weight off your mind, as parking in town can be very hectic. It can sometimes take a while, and many circuits of the one way system and streets to find a space. The hotel is located a ten minute walk from a very large Morrison store, where you will be able to buy any groceries you need.
Staff were very friendly and made check in simple, explaining breakfast and checkout times. Breakfast was very laid back, with a table given to us quickly and orders taken for tea and coffee, which had unlimited refills. We were informed of juice, yogurt, cereal and fruit, all of which were self service. Porridge and croissants were available on request.
Wonderful, thick, tasty toast with each breakfast. And a choice of how you wanted your eggs. Staff were accommodating with our friends, who were also staying at the hotel, joining us for breakfast, and quickly laid out places for them.
Food in the pub was available until 21:45
The Starling Cloud was easy to find even without GPS, as its large sign was easy to spot from the main road.
Checkout was a breeze, as we had paid on arrival, and all we had to do was drop our key card in a box. Simples!
Overall, a pleasant, easy going weekend.
