nice room, good food and very friendly staff
Mix and match breakfast items. Very tatsy and well cooked. Stayed in standard bedrooms and they are lovely. Very tastefully furnished. Lovely large wine glasses! Able to leave luggage if you arrive before checkin time and after you have checked out. Reception staff are very friendly and helpful.
You do have to wait for cooked breakfast when busy. Its is worth the wait though and you can preorder night before.
In the centre and a lovely large very clean room. The staff where very helpful and friendly. Best steak house ever was opersit!
The six flights of stairs to our room but only because the wife had just had an operation and found that a bit much. There is never an electric socket by the mirrors to dry your hair.(her point of view)
Stopped serving food at 8 on a Friday evening.
The breakfast was fantastic. The room was large and spacious
The place, the people, the shops, restaurants, bars, buildings
Good bathroom and nice and warm. A huge good quality breakfast. All the staff I spoke to were friendly.
The building is a complete warren but there is not much they can do about that
Friendly service Great breakfast Lovely decor and very comfortable room Perfect location for the centre and the train station
In my room I could hear a fair bit of noise from the beer garden and a lot of doors slamming at around midnight when people left, after 12:30ish it was nice and quiet. The wifi was fine most of the time, but here and there the speed was a bit poor
Excellent Location Amazing food and drinks Lovely staff
The bed was quite uncomfy! Quite pricey for just basic room facilities
"Boutique" billing was apt, cafetiere and ground coffee in the room, food for dinner was excellent, staff were very friendly and helpful, pricing was very competitive for what was provided. Wifi was good signal. Evening bar and restaurant staff excellent. Positives outweigh negatives by a lot.
Inconsistency of application - breakfast orders identical 2 days but delivered differently (one day 3 rashers bacon 2 eggs, next 2 rashers, 1 egg), cramped bathroom (loft room), room not quiet from start of morning traffic, subject also to cigarette smoke from the outside smoking area. Wifi not secure. Breakfast and morning staff not up to excellence of evening staff.
Located centrally,Stylish rooms with nice décor, all very clean with comfy beds. Pub menu is good but there are a wealth of alternative places nearby should you want to venture out.
No parking, so best bet is the nearby secure Car Park which is literally two minutes away. Offload your bags first!
the room at the back the food the staff
the room at the front noise on a Friday night from the street. A bit mean not allowing my wife to enjoy our own champers at dinner after her success in The Great North Run.
We will be back! Great location, super friendly and efficient staff, great facilities. Nothing more to say!
Location. Close to secure parking
Room very warm. Unable to open window
The friendly staff, the comfortable rooms, the quirky lay out of the building, the lovely walled garden/patio and the wonderful breakfast. The menus looked good but we didn't get chance to try, therefore there will be a need for a return visit.
The hotel is very close to the centre with most things within a few minutes walking distance. Food is very good along with a big and ever changing selection of real ales. All the staff are pleasant and very helpful without being humble. The décor matches the period charm of the building.
Only the fragile Wi-Fi in my room but it was useable for most of the time.
Well presented and decorated with a lot of the original features of the building incorporated into the design. The choice and quality of the menu and food was excellent. Cost of the room included breakfast and all total was less than a branded hotel which advertises itself as a low cost chain.
It was a bit of a maze to get to the room on the top floor, but that was to do with the character and age of the building which had an appeal about it. The corridors and rooms were also very hot and stuffy, it was a very hot day when we arrived but, the rooms could have been aired.
Good, central location. Friendly, helpful staff.
Slow breakfast service, even after pre-ordering.
The quality of the room
Breakfast taking so long that I had to leave before it arrived
Friendly staff, large room, good atmosphere -- will gladly stay at the Sun on our next visit to Lancaster.
Somewhat dirty carpets and coach in room. Staff does create some difficulties in occasionally not doing anything or at some other time do the wrong things.
Back in Lancaster for 1st time in 30 years, had a lovely weekend at The Sun. Room compact but comfy. Food at breakfast very nice indeed. Pub has excellent choice of ales. Staff efficient if a little distant.
Free wifi reception very in and out.
Great selection of beers. Staff all great every time we have been.Breakfast is just the best ! Wouldn't stay anywhere else in Lancaster.
I picked the Sun as this was where I first met my now Fiance. We both studied and worked in Lancaster before moving away but had fond memories of the place on many nights out. Having driven back and proposed at the ashton memorial it felt very welcoming arriving at the Sun. Though the room was small it was more than adequate and the proximity to town is great. Breakfast was substantial and varied. Would be happy to come back if we decided to get married in Lancaster!!
Loved the central location, great bar with good ambiance and really good late night atmosphere, fab if you've only got to go upstairs to bed.
If you don't want lively don't stay here, although we had a wonderfully quiet sleep despite concerns that a lively bar and/or central location would compromise this. Best sleep ever!
The building is like a tardis inside. Full of history mixed with modern. Food is beautiful with plentiful portions. Excellent quality and all fresh. Disappointed we missed Sunday lunch. Lovely staff, plenty around but always busy. Our room was on a slight slope part of the quirkiness, fun after a glass of wine!!
