Location. Free car parking. Inclusive WiFi.
We were allocated a pokey little room that is really a single room with a small double bed installed in it. The reception stated that the last guests reported the shower broken. The toilet handle had to be pumped to make it flush. All in all this is a £45 per night hotel and does not justify anything more.
stairs needed vacuuming & walls needed painting in public areas. The shower cubicle was mouldy & plugholes not clean.
Tepid, slow water supply
Water temp not very hot
Near to Bath, good food
Shower broken in room, could do with a revamp throughout
The position great. The hotel full of character, very important. Good friendly service and open attractive breakfast room. Happy atmosphere.
Just around the window areas; window sills and window panes, all could do with a very good clean. I felt they had not been looked at by the cleaner for a very long time.
All. Staff were attentive and very friendly and welcoming.
The bed, comfiest ever slept on in a hotel. It's a very old building but well looked after inside. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Lovely place, very central, incredible amount of traffic going through but good walks by river.
Bit disappointed with food. Should have tried the Asian menu!
Lots of traditional features. Room clean and comfortable. Tea and coffee in room, very welcome. Towels and bedding spotlessly clean.
Ate in restaurant one evening, food, including breakfast, could have been hotter. Good breakfast but condiments had to be collected, would be better to have them on the table.
The owner and staff all so keen to help lovely food. first appearance it all seems lovely .
good hotel staff lovely but could be a great hotel if you pay more attention to a few things Room 1 no hot water moldy tiles over bath - net curtains smell and are filthy -the surrond on bed keeps you awake all night although the mattress is comfy ( loose the surround )
We where only there for one night but the staff seemed very friendly and helpful
no parking spaces when we arrived had to wait about 15 minutes before we could park and we would have preferred to have a room that wasn't on a slant and not so many stairs. There was a lack of staff during our evening meal with one person tending bar and restaurant. Also my main gripe was that all the tables were sticky even at breakfast time they where still sticky your clothes actually stuck to the table - we asked to be moved but that table was also the same.
Very comfortable with fantastic breakfast. Perfect location.
The room was too warm and the heater wasn't on. And there was no wifi.
Room was spacious. No view but this did not worry us. Good quality bed linen Very clean Nice bars to relax in Good breakfast choice
Very friendly and helpful staff, good location. Getting in and out of the car park can be a fun challenge!
Shower head fell off while in use. Totally inadequate toaster at breakfast. It is billed as 4* and priced as 4* but in reality is probably between a 2* and 3*. So altogether grossly overpriced.
The area & the hotels orginality
Old fashioned bedroom, large but not made the most of
The location and hotel both excellent, took the train to Bath for a Spa Experience. All meals at the hotel really tasty and staff cheerful and eager to please. Really enjoyed taking coffee at the canal lock and watching the world go by.
Although the hotel was excellent on the whole it could do with a lick of paint and a new bathroom.
very central location. good music in the bar, local folk groups etc. a lovely building.
there was an overwhelming smell of floor polish all over the hotel. the beautiful old floor stone tiles should be left as is, not polished and sticky. the smell was sickly. the decor in the communal areas of the bar and hotel wasn't very good. canvas prints of buddhas and flowers etc. very bright lights at night. modern furniture in such a lovely old building. the rooms were fairly clean and had a better decor but my room had squashed mosquitoes over one part of a wall.
The Bed - super comfy. We had a great sleep. The cooked breakfast was excellent.
Black spots and mould on our bathroom ceiling. Pump for the shower didn't work unless water was set to cold to start with (apparently we should have been told this). Net curtains in the windows were very dirty and needed replacing. No marmalade or newspapers at breakfast!
Room was clean and comfortable. Suprisingly big bathroom!! Breakfast good too
Hairs in the plug hole from previous occupants, dirty and sticky breakfast table, staff didn't seem interested. Had to ask for everything, nothing was offered. Room was tired and neglected, a bit like the whole hotel.
You always get a good breakfast, but other then that ,on this occasion "Nothing"
I arrived and waited some 20 mins before anyone attended to me,then only to tell me they hadn't a room I had no booking,I produced my booking confirmation,so they found me what they called "a Room"the bed had been slept in and the bedding was dirty,I have stayed before and enjoyed my stay, but this time if I had slept in a skip it would have been cleaner, the room itself was a disgrace.I did complain and was told they would not be charging me,but we will see.It was all down to very sloppy house keeping.
The room was surprisingly quiet, given the hotel's location in the centre of town, and we slept really well in the very comfortable bed. Breakfast was delicious - I had smoked salmon and scrambled eggs, and the serving of salmon was VERY generous! Staff were friendly and helpful and although there were some glitches on our arrival, they were dealt with apologetically and politely. We would definitely stay there again.
On our arrival we had to wait for quite a while before we could get into our room, as previous guests had apparently gone off with the key. After some time we were given the key to another room and told that this might fit, so we trailed up three flights of stairs, with our bags, to try it. It didn't fit, so we went back to reception where we were promised a drink on the house while the staff tried to sort out the problem (there was one girl on duty, new to the job and having to take care of the bar and reception.) Before we could order, however, the manager arrived and did sort things out for us, so the free drink never happened!! We were just happy to get to our room though, so we let it go. We had only one set of towels in the room, so had to ring down to reception for another set.
Smack bang in the middle of the town, 5 mins walk from the station. friendly helpful staff, superb breakfast, comfortable well equipped rooms
Lots of stairs to top (2nd) floor but room was very quiet
Location. Beds were comfortable. Staff pleasant
Although quirky and quaint for 10 minutes, very uneven floors are an irritation when belongings literally roll off the dressing table or trying to iron and the board doesn't stand still! Unsightly card board wedging all the furniture in an upright position let rooms down.Full English Breakfast was enjoyable just not very satisfying portion wise and had to wait ages! Bathroom had issues with the shelf sloping downwards, thus unusable and the water in the sink took age to drain. Had to request kettle for room.
