I was having a few days break.I Chose the Swan Hotel after going on the internet.I Wanted to visit the Mid Hant's Railway and Alton was convenient because I was travelling by train.I Found the hotel to be very good in every way, from when I booked in to checking out.I Was greeted in a very friendly manner,my room25 was apparently undergoing maintainance so I was upgraded to another room temporarily. My room was comfortable and very good, facilities were very good. The food and drink were good and and resonably priced The staff were efficient and very friendly.I Found everything about the hotel to be very good and I was very pleased that I stayed where I did. I found nothing to complain about.

Friendly staff, good restaurant at reasonable prices, comfortable and clean rooms. We were in Room 2. My only complaints would be that, as the view was into a rather grotty, small, enclosed roof space the fact that the window was very dirty made the room feel a bit dark and grimy (although it was in fact very clean). Also the quality of the ceiling light is just horrible and not very bright.. I know it's a problem we all have with energy saving light bulbs but again, given the lack of view it made the room feel dingey and uninviting. And purely a matter of personal taste - the photos on the wall are incredibly dull.

Hotel has undergone a refurbishment very nice. Bedrooms very large and comfortable. Breakfast was a bit chaotic as they hadn't cleared the tables they didn't know if you had just arrived or had been already served.

We were worried about the loud music from downstairs, but it stopped at 12 so that was ok. But could have done without the worry. The floor in room 4 is extremely creaky, as was the room above. I suggest next time you replace the carpets, put down a layer of at least 5mm ply with lots of screws and the problem would be solved.

The location was ideal for the friends we were meeting in Alton. The price suited our budget. We had stayed before at The Swan and were satisfied but it would seem there had bee some refurbishment and we were more than satisfied with the room and the hotel generally and would happily stay there again.

Room cleaning persons were excellent in their work and attitudes. We were allowed to occupy rooms almost on arrival and before the allotted time, which was helpful and welcoming. Someone added a drinks bill to our room. The hotel needs to be more careful about that. The hotel responded and did not charge us, but it was embarrassing. We had an adult family lunch gathering. Food was good, but waitress got the order wrong. Suggest that waitresses are told to read the order back to customers before placing the order at the kitchen. One of the advertised vegetables was not served with the order, as they had run out. But it was available in a shop close by the hotel.

I liked the character of the building and the location withing the heart of the town. Breakfast service was a bit slow. When we asked for toast with the breakfast it arrived after we had already eaten and that was only after prompting one of the waitresses. However it did not spoil our overall experience at the hotel.

I liked the location.. As it was in walking distance of where we wanted to visit. Some member of staff were very lazy, unapproachable and rude. Whereas others were fantastic. The good staff are being let down by the bad staff, which is a real shame as this reflects badly on the Hotel.

The room was good, the location for our purposes was good, the breakfast was good. We stayed in room five and the shower was inconsistant with regards to temprature and quite complicated to work, the noise from the kitchen extraction fan was very loud. The food was not of the standard you would expect from an hotel of this quality, I had the trio of fish cakes to start, which I had to return as they were cold and then the 'sizzling duck' dish which had obviously been part prepared in the microwave as it was as tough as old leather and was not served on a 'sizzling plate' as expected and it was accompanied by raw apples !! Room for improvement !

Location on High Street, Alton. Good parking facilities. Nice large room & bath. Very pleasant place to stay. Only one small soap & body wash. At this level of hotel you would expect shampoo/conditioner and more than one soap.

The staff were extremely pleasant and friendly.Room was very comfortable. Service was very poor.In the evening it took about 15 minutes for anyone to come to see me after I had been seated and then I had to ask to place a drink and food order.Restaurant was not busy either with no staff present in the large part.Meal took about 30 minutes to arrive but was good when it did. Breakfast simalarly was a disaster in terms of turnaround. With most people congregating at the same time there was a shortage of tables and long delays for anyone ordering a cooked breakfast.Buffet style would be far more appropriate for Business travellers.

There were curtains on the windows in the bedroom itself, but not on the window opposite the bathroom, so we woke up with the lark after a late night wedding celebration. There was almost no food at breakfast so we had to repeatedly ask and wait. Each time it came it was incomplete, e.g. tables with only partial cutlery, orange juice with no glasses, and tea with no milk. It was also insufficient, e.g. less than a cup of tea and half a glass of orange per person and the cooked food tepid. Many guests were making requests so the staff were harassed off their feet but never bringing enough. There was a queue of about 20 people checking out. When I got to the head of the queue, the receptionist had an interminable circular telephone conversation with a client who wanted a deal that wasn’t on offer. When I asked the receptionist mildly if there had been a staffing problem over breakfast I was told the problem was that too many guests had chosen to come down at the same time. I asked if it wasn’t possible to anticipate that from experience and was told no, it is quite unpredictable. The attitude was that the chaos was the fault of the guests, not management.

Very friendly staff. Rooms were good and comfortable.Good breakfast. Located in town centre Security was poor. Fire escapes were left open (not just unlocked, but wide open with access for anyone).3rd floor room walls are very thin and I was disturbed by people in the corridor. Because it is on a road with traffic passing 24 hours noises from the street are loud if you are in a front bedroom.

Brilliant place! Very comfortable, a place with history and charm, but with a great atmosphere and an excellent pub/restaurant.The breakfast was the best we've had anywhere, the usual fullEneglish, but also some not-usually-offered items like Eggs Benedict and 3 Egg Omelette. The qulaity was superb and it was served to your table, not the usual buffet where everything is overcooked. Nothing much. Access wasn't that convenient because you park at the rear and have to negotiate several doors through the pub to get to reception. But it's no big deal.
