This 13th-century coaching inn has stunning views across the River Avon to the Salisbury Cathedral. It has a bar, a restaurant, free Wi-Fi and Salisbury Railway Station is just 10 minutes away.
Score from 509 reviews Very good
Very good service and food at a very realistic price.
no hot water in our room
Very good place to stay, easy to find as it is on the road. Close to Stonehenge. Staff is very nice and friendly, knows very well the surroundings. Definitely I would stay again.
The weather :) You have to be careful when crossing the road.
Good food, and a comfortable bed.
The staff were great and very helpful. The carvery and bar were very nice. The room was very comfortable and a nice size.
We couldn't get the WiFi to work even in the bar. It was next to a busy road.
- modern design of room - clean
- not enough hot water to take a bath though there was a bath tub - extremely thin walls, we were woken up at 5:45 by the alarm clock next door - in general noisy environment as the pub is directly at an A road - staff at breakfast was a bit unfriendly
When we arrived our room was not ready due to a slight mix up with housekeeping. However the staff acted promptly to sort the situation while we were having a complimentary drink in the cosy bar. Service was excellent throughout our stay and the room was spotless, warm and quiet with triple glazing as it was at the front of the hotel on the main road. We only stayed one night, but ate in the restaurant - excellent meal, beautifully cooked and prompt efficient service from the staff. Also we were leaving early the next day to travel on somewhere else, so would not be able to have breakfast. We were immediately offered cereals to take up to our room to have before we left - very considerate we thought and it was delicious. Car park is also right opposite the inn, so nice and safe for our car.
contractors staying thin walls noise poor nights rest
We haven't been to The Swan for a couple of years and were delighted to find that it is as good as it was when we came regularly. We were warmly greeted on arrival and the staff were charming throughout our stay. Our room was comfortable and I slept very well. Breakfast was delicious and substantial and set us up well for the day. And we enjoyed watching the swans on the river from our window. We had a lovely time.
There was no wifi signal in our room. Also, the duvet was too short for my over six foot husband, so his feet stuck out and got very cold in the night.
Location Staff friendliness Food Standard of accommodation
No shower due to low water pressure, no bath alternative. Did raise it but no compensation offered. Feel £105 for a room without shower facilities excessive. Wi-Fi limited to bar area
Excellent food, lovely riverside garden and modern rooms. Fantastic staff with good attention to detail; whilst waiting for my evening meal one of the guys noticed me intently studying the menu and bought me a newspaper because "we all like something to read."
No sky sports, intermittent wifi (although it was for reasons outside the hotel's control) and having to cross a main road to reach the garden.
great staff, nicely decorated room, comfy bed
Shower poor, constantly going to low pressure and shutting off
Carvery, evening meal. Excellent bottle of Shiraz :) Sitting by log fire. Location, walk by the river.
Bed a little low. Noise from road. No problem with window closed but we like it open at night. However this is more of an observation than a dislike.
If I am honest there was not a lot, apart from the room was clean. The menu description of the food was first class, pity they could'nt cook as good as there writing skills.
I will not be booking with Booking.com because I feel the hotel was misrepresented. The pictures I saw was better than it turned out to be. The exit immediately took you to a very dangerous stretch of road. When I booked I believed the room was an upgraded one, if it was I would hate to stay in their standard room. The food was of a low standard and over priced, my pie was burned. The way the place was run it was understaffed and run in an amatuer way. I would not recommend it to any one.
Rooms had paper thin walls - I had what I thought was a herd of elephants next door until I heard them quite clearly speak English. Although I booked in for two nights I checked out after one. Hotel insisted I pay for two. Outrageous and irrational. I will not recommend this hotel to anyone.
The quietness of the bedrooms in spite of the busy road just in front of the bedroom. We had a very good breakfast with friendly staff. The bedroom was spacious and comfortable. We enjoyed our night there. Could have stayed longer. Very good location for us and very good car park with a lot of space, very handy!
The road just in front of the bedroom but it did not disturb us as the bedroom was well insulated.
Friendly Staff, Pet friendly even in the restaurant, another wonderful stay with fabulous carvery ... cant wait to come back!! We have even booked in for Christmas!!
Nothing to Dislike
Staff where friendly and helpful, Food was beautifully cooked and presented, Rooms where spacious and very clean, Even though the weather was not great I could still admire the riverside garden when it was not raining, Staff very friendly as I was traveling alone, it was nice company in the evening at the bar to have friendly staff to talk to. Carvery was delicious and beautifully presented with unlimited veggies .... a lovely meal after a long day or of traveling around Salisbury. Will stay again for sure!
Not much to comment on really other than bad weather!!! ... I guess that's England for you!!! :-)
Nice and friendly member staff,
Facilities no very good many ups and downs to get the room
I stayed in a lovely room with a four poster bed. When I got there I was welcomed at the door and showed to my room. Nice food too.
Room was a good size and very comfortable. Was also very well soundproofed against noise from a very busy road.
Bar area was entirely restaurant based with no area just to sit for a quiet drink. Was also unbearably hot, partly due to location of carvery, so much so that we were compelled to drive down the road to The Pelican
Lovely atmosphere of the old Inn, good food and a comfortable clean en-suite room
Friendly greeting, food good, service okay, price fine, not too busy with customers. Location easy to reach from motorway.
The description was misleading, bear garden on the other side of road, bridge further away, busy road, car park on other side of the busy road. Bar staff ability to add up & give correct change needed to be challenged. Noisy road despite triple glazing & cold room. Heating not on.
The staff were friendly.
No Wifi in my room. Mould above shower. Low water pressure in shower - dangerous temperature changes. Half a tomato for breakfast. Roused at 0110 for firealarm - smokers! Poor lighting on steps in corridor. Dirty tables in dining room.
Staff very friendly and helpful.Good varied choice on the menu.Breakfast full English was excellent.
Shower room fan didn't work so the room smelt musty.Door handle fell off the shower room door.
Friendly welcome food was fairly priced
proximity to the road, on v busy main route to the west with just the width of narrow pavement between bedroom and juggernauts TV - extremely small and mount high on wall so needed to crane neck to watch if sitting in chair or on bed bathroom v tired and need good deep clean
