With panoramic views of the Suffolk Coast, The Brudenell is just metres from Aldeburgh Beach. The elegant hotel features an award-winning restaurant and seafront terrace.
Score from 264 reviews Fabulous
The White Lion is a traditional hotel opposite Aldeburgh’s shingle beach, where wooden huts line the shore.
Score from 405 reviews Very good
With historical features dating back to 1455, Sutherland House is believed to be one of the oldest buildings in Southwold.
Score from 147 reviews Superb
Midway between Southwold and Aldeburgh, this modernised, rustic inn has an excellent restaurant and refurbished, stylish rooms. It is an ideal base for exploring the Suffolk Heritage Coast.
Score from 208 reviews Very good
Good restaurant. Dinner and breakfasts very good
Wifi connectivity poor
I liked the help, the facilities.
The ancient lift!
All staff very helpful
not much choice for vegetarians on the evening menu
Nice breakfast and room was nice and clean. Lovely towels and plenty of hot water.
Dogs are not allowed in the bar area which is a shame. It would be nice if there was an area where dog owners can go even just to have a drink.
loved the location of the hotel, staff were friendly and efficient and breakfast was great
rooms are a bit tired, we paid £120 per night which is about right, wouldn't of wanted to pay any more for the room.
We have been to Southwold many times - this is the first time at The Swan. We will not now stay anywhere else! The room and bathroom were very clean and the staff were excellent, extremely friendly and helpful. Food was excellent too - all in all good value for the money we paid! We will definitely stay there again and are telling our friends to do the same!
Location. Friendliness of staff Excellent quality food and cooking Cleanliness Large and comfortable bed Nice bathroom products Tea & Coffee making in the room.
Quite a few stairs. Its a mature building so seating near the sash windows is draughty.
Probably a bit pricey as just stayed at the Astor Suite Hever Castle for £60 less and excellent .
Location and Adnams beer an gin
Slightly chaotic dinner service
Our room was large and comfortable.
The smell of dusinfectant in the corridors and these areas also looked dingy.
Warm comfortable room. Good bar and restaurant Friendly and helpful, staff
No WiFi in the garden room45 Insufficient toiletries for a two night stay
The bedroom was very comfortable and lovely contemporary decor
The restaurant was very dated. Breakfast was average and we decided not to eat a main meal as the menu was very 80's. The heating/water system was extremely noisy in our room.
Location of hotel was the only positive thing one can say everything else was terrible
Service poor Waited 10mins at the bar to be served yet nobody in the bar staff pre-occupied other customers colplained Too expensive for the level The hotel was tired Rusty radiators Shower did work- cold no pressure To get to rooms outside if raining you would get wet!!!! Service in local pub was better than this hotel!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! No wifi 1 night dinner Bed breakfast £300 should be a lot better
Location and food were very good as was the evening barman and restaurant staff.
We were not expecting to stay in what amounted to a chalet. It was offensively smelly, and the many windows made privacy difficult unless blinds and/or curtains were pulled which effectively blocked out natural daylight.
Always a treat to stay at The Swan or The Crown and this time, even better than before. Lovely old building with creaky stairs, snug bars, comfortable restaurant and staff who cannot do enough for you. A pleasure, we did not want to go home.
Seemed expensive for what we got - room in stables overlooking garden Breakfast service in restaurant was a bit like fawlty towers.
great starting point for visiting the town. food and attention to detail excellent
being located on market square was a touch noisy in the morning - bin collection and market set-up.
Excellent size bed and numerous pillows
Good location. Friendly staff. Warm and comfortable bedroom.
Poor management with staff telling each other what to do and wandering aimlessly in dining room. Disappointing menu the same each evening. Asked desk staff for directions to doctor. Sent us in wrong direction to a surgery which had closed several months before. Expensive for what we got. Old lift and in need of redecoration. Did not see a manager in 3 days. Tatty uniforms.
The hotel was very central, the staff were welcoming and friendly and the food (and Ale) was great. Will definitely be going back
Nothing much really - the floors creaked like it was permanently Halloween but that's really part of the charm!
The hotel was a mixture of old, interesting and very comfortable. We particularly liked the 'lighthouse' rooms in the garden area.
The bar menu food was very bland and disappointing.
The food was excellent !
reception and restaurant decor
breakfast should be buffet style Outside rooms felt like butlins Bar very dark not comfortable
Closeness to beach
Room small, cramped and excessively stuffy Bathroom needed updating Late night socialising of staff in outside area which was loud - esp as we had windows open to cool very stuffy room Cost of drinks in bar Breakfast not well cooked Serving staff under trained and not well organised to serve Interior decor was outdated-poor and staircase was grubby and smelly (not in a good way)
We had a lovely stay with the hotel being in a perfect location. We were a bit disappointed being in garden rooms as it was raining and we had to get wet to get to the main hotel.
Our room smelt of damp and was cold. We were unable to book into the restaurant even though we were staying there which I have never had in any other hotel. I would have thought guests could have had tables reserved or at least we could hv been advised prior to our visit that we need to book well in advance.
